Homemade 4 x 5 pinhole box with Harman Direct positive paper
Exposure 2 minutes...maybe a bit too long
Marinated in caffenol for 4 minutes
Abandoned ranch house in Winters, Texas
A den of rattlesnakes lives under the front porch so this is considered a closeup! 8)

Excellent. Love it Becky :)
-
Rattlesnakes, you say? You'll be telling me there's scorpions and big, hairy, poisonous spiders out there, too...?!
Lovely photo Becky...
-
Thanks !
A few spiders, but I didn't see any scorps.
They probably left because it is too dry...
:)
-
Snakes you say...?!!!
Then that would be a downright macro for me.

Especially rattlers... these things can get pretty aggressive and deadly.
There's some rattlers (Massasaugas) in Ontario in the Georgia Bay region. Nice place but these critters are a good reason for me not to go there!
-
I remember rescuing a few Tarantulas off of the road in West Texas last autumn.
-
I'm not afraid of snakes, spiders or scorps, but I do respect them.
I almost always wear cowboy boots and make as much noise as possible when walking around places that venomous critters might lurk.
It gives them a chance to move on....hopefully they all do. :)
Tarantulas migrate through parts of west Texas and Oklahoma in "herds" and sometimes it's hard not to run over them in the fall.
I've rescued my fair share of them too. They don't always appreciate it though..., :)

Becky, that's gorgeous.
I'll change the topic from snakes and ask some technical questions :) Did you preflash? And what flavour of caffenol are you using? Any digital post?
I do like this forum, there is so much to learn!
-
I know that snakes are deaf...
But they are very sensitive to ground vibrations.

Great photo, Beck. I shot some DPP in my 4"x5" box camera today, 5 minute exposures under cloudy skies, I rate the paper at 3. I'll post the results when they dry. Definitely takes longer to expose DPP in a pinhole camera compared to regular paper negatives, but it's nice getting finished prints on fine paper with one processing step.

I have never pre-flashed and probably won't. It's too fussy for my laid back (lazy) pinhole attitude.
The caffenol recipe I use is:
5 teaspoons instant coffee in 6 oz. 68 degree water.
1/2 teas vitamin C powder from Vitamin cottage. ( It's just Vitamin C with no added color, fillers, fragrance or buffers) added to the above coffee mixture.
3 1/2 teaspoons washing soda mixed in 6 oz. 68 degree water- mixed well!
I then combine the two mixtures and shake the living daylights out of it.
Seriously! I put it in an old Fiji water bottle I have and shake it vigorously.
I then let it sit for about 5 minutes or however long it takes me to get my trays set up and ready in the bathroom.
I then develop by inspection which usually works out to about 4 minutes.
No post digital adjustments. I will spot it, but so far I haven't had many spots with the Harman paper.
I love that stuff in caffenol. The coffee gives it a slight stain which I like.

That's exactly why I like this paper so much.
Good thing you went out earlier today...it's trying to snow again out here in the East Mountains...
Anxious to see your photo! 8)
We should go out pinhole shooting sometime....

Thanks Becky
Glad to hear I'm not the only lazy photographer! That's pretty much the caffenol recipe I've tried too. I agree about the lovely colour you get to it.
This is one of the first I took with my first 5x4 camera. Slightly under developed but I like it nonetheless.

oh, I like it too!

Deliciously creepy Becky!
I am arachnophobic, snake-phobic, general-phobic, when it comes to little crawling creatures bigger than my finger nail. I lived few years in the tropic and survived, usually trapped in my mosquito tent, ::) my policy is: do not look for them, do not find them :'( Once I tried a shock therapy, go into the jungle, night time, with a torch and look for the little animals, I found them but I am still afraid of them.
