Sorry to be UK centric on this ...
"To mark the centenary of his birth, Arena examines the glamorous life and exceptionally long career of pioneering photographer Norman Parkinson, an eccentric English gentleman who also produced his own brand of sausages. Featuring an abundance of beautiful images and with previously unseen footage, the film explores Parkinson's work with contributions from his models and collaborators, including Iman, Jerry Hall, Carmen Dell'Orefice, creative director of Vogue Grace Coddington and his grandson Jake Parkinson-Smith."

I'm pretty sure there are some Parkinson images here http://www.bathinfashion.co.uk/whats-on/exhibitions-installations/mouvements-de-femmes-2.html (http://www.bathinfashion.co.uk/whats-on/exhibitions-installations/mouvements-de-femmes-2.html) I will have to check it out.
Minimal effort. It's free and I live here. I may send Jan ahead of time, you know, so as not to waste time!

I like the way you roll! ;)

The thing is, Nigel. Working 18 1/2 hours a week you have to manage your time :-X Jan doesn't come here or she may well have my guts for garters!
-
Good spot Nigel, thanks for this.

Phil, I just sent Jan a link to this thread. I knew you wouldn't mind :-)

Thank you, Ed! This is obviously why she is refusing to top up my gin! Man, it's taken me 25 years to get to this point.

Thanks for the heads up Nigel, just to note though it's being shown on BBC4 and not BBC2 despite what the link seems to show. Probably too busy with funeral coverage to make this clear!

Watched it last night. Great fun.
I got the impression he had more front than Blackpool and hid his technical craft and compositional excellence behind a veneer of frightfully British eccentricity. Loved his comment about working with models being like working in a sweet shop and trying not mess about with the liquorice allsorts...... :o
I also made a mental note to see if I could get one of those hats he had......

We all need a magic hat Paul. I have several.

Only caught the second half so one for the i Player later.
I remember him being on the Jonathan Ross show in the late 80s with his 'Porkinson Bangers,' and was asked about his hats. He replied that he passed the old ones down to his assistants!

Went to the exhibition a few days ago. I enjoyed it very much. A combination of digital and old prints. Many of the vintage prints for sale. I'm not in to fashion photography, but, well worth a look. Oh, it's free!

Just watched it on eyePlayer. Excellent.

All this time and I never knew he was behind those wonderful sausages! :o

Alas even they exist no more either. :'(

Just watched it. Somehow, I just find it so sad to hear that after playing a role all his life and living a charmed life through this character, he came to a point where he didn't know who he was...

It reminds me of the Shakespearean lines Polonius offers in Hamlet:
This above all: to thine own self be true,
And it must follow, as the night the day,
Thou canst not then be false to any man.
Maybe it's not 100% appropriate but living a lie or putting on a front eventually catches up with you. Like you, Francois, I felt desperately sorry for him but his work stands as testimony to his glorious ability and, faux eccentric or not, nobody can take that away from him.

Quite true...
