Kicking off the first group think exercise of 2013, all registered Filmwasters are cordially invited to participate in Collaboration Number 30.
--------------------------------------------
Theme: "Stranger In A Strange Land"
--------------------------------------------
As always, the interpretation of the theme is up to you, but please remember to include a sentence or two about why you chose this particular photo. There is no 'time served' rule with these collaborations so don't worry if you only registered with us a week ago. Conversely, if you registered 6 years ago, but haven't visited the site for the last 5, that doesn't matter either. Join in. The work we receive is always diverse and high-quality and the more people that get involved, the better the resulting gallery will be.
The response to the last gallery was fantastic; let's see if we can keep the heat on and get 2013 underway with another great gallery.
------------------------------------------------------------------
Submission Deadline: midnight Sunday, 24th February 2013
------------------------------------------------------------------
Basic requirements:
JPEG Requirements: One JPEG image. Not larger than 800 pixels in length or width. No more than 200kb.
PLEASE use ONLY your name in the image file (e.g. "Roddy Nal.jpg")
**ALSO INCLUDE**
1. A sentence or two about why you chose this particular photo.
2. The camera, process and/or type of film used.
3. Your website or blog address that you'd like listed.
EMAIL SUBMISSIONS to filmwasters [at] gmail.com (please write "Stranger" in the subject field so we can find them easily in our overflowing mail box).
Regards,
The Filmwasters Team

this is going to be fun!

Yep, I feel a Heinlein moment coming on. 8)

I feel the pressure :'( but it sounds sweet :)
-
For now I have just one idea
?
-
Huh, first thing I thought of was the song by Iron Maiden (okay, all you crusty old punks, leave me alone). So for me I may have to think a little bit more.

Leon, I presume you mean NWOBHM?
...and for the record, Chris, most crusty old punks I know absolutely LOVE Maiden (me included); although it has to be said there's a definite lean towards the Paul DiAnno material because it's rawer. Personally I'm happy with the later stuff too (fave song is probably "Wasted Years").
Also, I LOVED that movie of theirs from a couple of years ago. Fantastic stuff.
Now....how the heck did we get here? I thought this was a photo website ;D ;) :D

there's a skateboard movie - metal link here too but I won't hijack the thread any further...
(but you gotta love the toy machine jamie thomas part with hallowed be thy name as the music, must have watched it 100+ times)...
anyway, stranger in a strange land...

That's the puppy. I'm metalexic, in case you didn't know. It's a condition brought on by Iron Maiden allergy.
-
Not surprising... you know, Iron Maiden is a heavy metal
Proof, here is the Periƶdic Table of Heavy Metals

I bought 3x Sabre blades from Bruce's Shop "Duelist" once, http://www.duellistfencing.com/ (http://www.duellistfencing.com/)
Not bad.
My only Maiden connection.
-
Wow, that's weird, Miles. I'm always buying sabre blades too...I wonder why I've never bumped into you in a sabre blade shop before?
;)
-
I saw Steve Harris shopping at HMV while I was still working in there.

Had Bob Geldof walk into my office, introducing himself "hi guys, I'm Bob", once back in the winter of 1992/3. You could say he was a stranger in a strange land, because my office was on the 6th floor, in an access controlled environment, in Oslo, Norway. And we had nothing remotely to do with the music industry. Pity I don't have a photo of the occassion.

Haven't seen it yet but people say it's the real Spinal Tap...

Maricio: Yep, the Anvil movie is fantastic. I loved every second of it. I also really enjoyed Flight 666 (http://www.imdb.com/title/tt1361558/ (http://www.imdb.com/title/tt1361558/)) the Iron Maiden tour documentary from 3 or 4 years ago. Also, your photo has indeed landed in the FW mailbox. Thanks!
Ezzie: Wow! That's really weird. What on earth was he in your office for? Did he need the bathroom?

Heard about the Flight 666 too Ed but haven't seen it yet... for sure is on my list!

In fact he wanted to borrow the phone. Unbeknown to me our offices were chosen as neutral ground for a negotiation we were not party to. Why, I have no idea.

Sent. ;D

good for you! I'm wrestling with my sx-70 and old packs without battery power :D haha
-
I'm in.
There is a maiden involved, but not an iron one! (That makes me think of the Iron Lady - which is not a good thing! >:()
-

I was having a make it work moment ;)

Does that mean our very own big-D will have something in this time?
Incredible ;D
-
Yes people, Big D is in the house! 8) 8) 8)
OK, so thanks to everyone who sent photos in. Last time I checked we were at a very healthy 15 or 16 submissions, which is great. I was supposed to get the gallery online tonight, but instead I stayed up late drinking marmalade vodka with an old band mate who's in town for the weekend.
So sue me.
Sean usually steps in here and gives me grief ;D
Anyway, I'm taking my wobbly head to bed and will get the gallery online tomorrow evening (UK time). In the meantime, feel free to send in any last minute submissions.
-
good thing ive got my lawyer on speed dial! 8)
kidding of course!
-
I am indeed, back in business... I wish I had an excuse as rock 'n roll as Eds for recent no shows... but no marmalade vodka im afraid - just real life (along with a healthy dose of poor time management) continually popping its heads up to ruin my fun.
As the blurb with my picture says... all my carefully laid plans came to nothing.... hours stood about in the freezing cold were in vain for this collab.. hopefully it might yield some results though...if i ever get the film processed... cough
-
Marmalade Vodka? Where do you guys find this things!?
-
Its chase vodka... the bloke who used to own Tyrells crisps. Its good stuff and available from better booze shops and pubs.
I had it first at Eds - its a good little tipple.
-
Mauricio: I get a bottle for Christmas. It usually lasts a week. This year I got two. Say no more.
Damion: If you're coming to stay in June I'll try and save some until then...it's very unlikely that any will be left, but I'll do my best.
-
Thoroughly enjoyed this set of images! So many striking images and Nigel's just blows me away. Love the story behind it as well!
-
I agree! Nigel's entry is incredible!
-
Lovely set of photos.
I'm just really pi$$ed at myself as I had my photo chosen and ready to post - but forgot completely that I was due to be in Dorset all day Monday and Tuesday. It only dawned on me that I would miss the deadline after I'd driven the 200 miles to Dorchester.........
Maybe next time >:(
-
Paul, by all means send it in anyway. I have added 2 'post entries' so far.
-
Thanks Ed.
Really sorry I'm late. My head's a bit all over the place at the moment. Loads of hassle - I need a bit of a break to get my Chakras aligned (as an old friend of mine used to say). Still don't know what it means!
Paul.
-
Damn, I'm just really disorganised :-[
