Hi I'm Irvine and I am new here!
I have finally taken the plunge and signed up after readiong many a thread over the past six weeks or so.
I have only recently got into film over the past 18 month after being given a Nikon FM from a work mate who dug it out of his cupboard when moving house and have been hooked so much I have now got a Mamiya 645J, a Zenit E, a Welta reflekta TLR and a couple of 35mm point and shoots. Most recently I bought from a work colleague of my sister, a Meopta 6 enlarger with trays, tongs, enlarging frame paterson developing tank 5 boxes of 5x7 paper (a little out of date ) -well enough stuff to get me printing hence this is how I found this wonderful site on a google search. You all seem to have such good banter, I hope I can contribute to the fun.

Hi Irvine and Welcome!
I wouldn't worry too much about the out of date paper. Most of the time, it stays good for much longer than film thanks to its low sensitivity.
-
Welcome, Irv
Mostly we are quite nice here. Of course, use of the D word might get hackles raised!
Welcome and join in at a level you feel comfortable with!

Greetings Irvine
It sounds as if you have a nice little collection there, I look forward to seeing some results (especially from the TLR–I have a weakness, well more than one but we won't go into that)
Have fun!

How do we know Irvine is not a ¨D¨ shooter? ::) Pics, pics, we want to see pics!!!!
Welcome Irvine! ;)

Thanks for the warm welcome guys and girls :)
I live in South London near Crystal Palace and for my sins I do shoot with a Nikon d300 at times I just haven't got the confidence to go completely to film having not being into photography before digital came along but I do use my film cameras more now I have an enlarger. I will post some shots that I have taken, developed and printed myself but only B&W I haven't progressed to colour developing yet :-\

Good of you to join up, Irv. It's great to have another South Londoner on here (I'm in Balham) apart from anything else ;) One thing intrigues me though....did you get into film in the last 18 months or get back into film? We're always on the lookout for anything which augers well for the future of film/trad photography and there's obviously a big difference between someone going back to film and someone discovering it for the first time.
So...which is it?
Also, regarding "the D word" and this site (and despite what you may have inferred from some comments earlier in this thread - Carlos!!)...the basic deal is that the rest of us pretty much all shoot digital to greater or lesser degrees, so Filmwasters doesn't have a problem with digital photography per se. The key thing is that we leave that stuff behind when we use this forum and only discuss non-digital photography and related stuff.

Hi Ed after looking through the site I wished I had joined up much earlier it's such a good site I jump on for a five min look and end up on for much longer.
To answer your query I had never touch film before in fact the the only camera we had when the kids were growing up was a konica "pop" and we took the film into Boots to get developed. I'm not much into computers and techy things (I still haven't got a smart phone) and messing around with digi was getting to much staring at a screen so messing around with film feels better :)

Hi Irvine.
I have just joined too. :)
Hi Iain good to meet another newbie 8)

You had me at Nikon FM! I'm still using my Nikon FM, that I bought in 1978 (did I just date myself?) and it still works like a dream. It's still my favorite camera.

Hey All!
gothamtomato, you just hit on exactly why I returned to film! All these old film cameras you can dig up from decades ago still work great and can create some really beautiful images. My digital SLR, while still good, is now obsolete and will probably fry itself in the next few years. My dad's old Nikon FE2, my Minolta Hi-Matic 7s, Argoflex E (from '48!!), however, aren't obsolete yet and work like they did the day they were built! They'll be around for a while, definitely longer than my increasingly sparse digital gear.

Oh, don't worry about the camera itself. From experience with most electronics stuff, it's the batteries that will fry first. And you'll be left with a perfectly working camera (though greatly obsolete) that just won't turn on... that's the digital life. And then, I just hope all your images taken with it are not in RAW format 'cause as soon as Adobe drops support for your camera, you'll have a bunch of paperweight files which will be only good for the recycling bin.
