As well as the pics I took in Hastings and posted in the weekend thread, I also tried to recreate a picture my father took back in the fifties. I couldn't recreate it exactly as there have been changes that meant I needed to be standing in mid-air to get the shot, but it's close. A bit small to see in these pics but my wife is in the middle of the 'now' shot and my mother is in the middle of the 'then' shot.
Then...

Now...

Anyone else tried similar recreations?

I must say that it hasn't changed a hugh amount in 60 years, the promenade is narrower, the pier is smaller and of course the addition of a fast food ad and CCTV!!
It's great idea Peter... now where did I put that box of old photo's?!!

I think it's changed even less than that. The prom, I think, is the same, just I couldn't stand in exactly the same position so it probably looks different. And as for the pier, it would probably be exactly the same if it hadn't burnt down. What you see now is just a wreck but there are elements that are still the same.
Oh yes, the ground floor of the building on the left is now a Nepalise restaurant, I suspect that's different...

Great stuff Peter. I love seeing stuff like this. I might also have a dive through some old photos. I got some amazing old family photos when my gran passed away, my grandad "liberated" a Leica in the 1940's and had it for many years. Given he died when I was a lad I didn't get to ask any questions, all my dad knew was that he brought it back from the war and had it for many years. No idea what happened to it either.... It did however yield many a family photo when my dad was growing up.

Fascinating. I noticed that the security cameras are a new feature - everything else is pretty much the same.

I haven't but I've thought about it and now I really want to! thanks for the inspiration. it's always interesting to see how things change over time~ :)

Love it!

nicely done Peter. It's amazing how little, yet how much, has changed.

What a great idea, nicely executed. I guess the roads will be the largest change. round here at least the local council seems very keen to change traffic flow on a yearly basis.....
