Just came across the work of Steven Siegel on flickr. He has a pretty amazing set of photos of NYC from the 1980s.

Interesting stuff. I spent a couple weeks in NYC in 1988, and my dad had given me a Pentax 35mm, but I didn't really have any experience with an SLR, so I didn't take many photos unfortunately.

Great stuff and I agree with the commentary... My aunt once lived in the lil Jamaica of Brooklyn and instead of Belair I got sent over there for a few weeks of my Summer holiday... Now I thought I was a street-wise teenager until taken under the wings by a few kids on the block... They just skipped puberty to man-hood/woman-hood... ;) Oh and a Hostess Twinkie with a can of Welch grape soda... :'(
This was shot circa '89...

Gee, I like the geometry in there, Miller.

Loved Steven's work. I would loved to have shot with him back then. So much filth, so much abandonment. I wish that it was like that nowadays. But liability is killing it all for us.
I really enjoyed that set. A LOT!
