It's going to be a long weekend here:

a vintage Diana snap of the old church on the plaza in Old Town Albuquerque
I love this old Diana, it's the first one I ever bought.  The others I gave away.

A few from the car show last week-end.
It was so cramped you just couldn't take a decent picture of a single car... so I ended up taking shots of hood ornaments.

I did abuse a star filter on this set. Not very proud of it but the images were so dull I felt they needed a little pick me up.

: Re: weekend May 24
: Francois May 24, 2012, 08:45:57 PM
In the last one, some idiot was walking right into my shot...people  :-\

I'm still pretty happy with the colors. Not bad for some Kodak Gold 200 that expired in 2001 :)
Overexposed by a full stop and it doesn't even show!

Spent three weeks in Spain, that was delicious, no dust and heat for a while  ;D

First one is a shot of my father, I have so few shots of him, we were in the Garden and I looked at my father and suddenly cried at him, do not move, do not move, I went home took the POlaroid and there he is  ;D the other one is   my cousin and a friend.

Becky, that church shot is just great!

That's really cool looking!

Francois, I love the color on the cars.  And how can you go wrong with hood ornaments and a star filter!

Jeff-love the expression on his face!
Hookstrapped- I think this is one of your best.

I never knew you could use Dektol for film developing..information please?
you just dilute it more! I read around that some schools used it as a universal developer to cut costs. and other stories about horse race photographers and journalists using it in high concentrations to get their shots developed quickly.

when you mix up dektol you start by mixing up a stock solution and then later you use that diluted with water to get a working solution. 1 part stock and 2 parts water for normal use with paper, I think.

I found it's even on the massive dev chart :)
http://www.digitaltruth.com/devchart.php?Film=&Developer=Dektol&mdc=Search (http://www.digitaltruth.com/devchart.php?Film=&Developer=Dektol&mdc=Search)

I took out my time for ilford pan f plus (info under the shot) from looking at the times for tmax and tri-x and then comparing the times for those films compared to what I wanted to develop -but on the chart for D-76. apparently dektol is pretty similar to that developer.

this was just an educated guess though and I bet I could perfect things but..... eh! I like things simple :P :D ;)

I never knew you could use Dektol for film developing..information please?
Dektol will give you much chunkier grain than a regular developer. It also increases contrast quite a bit.

Thing is that most developers actually contain two developing agents: one for high contrast and one for low contrast.
The high contrast developing agent we're talking about is Hydroquinone. D-76 contains 5 grams of it. But Dektol contains 12 grams.

The trick to control contrast with is is to alter the dilution. For film, it can be diluted all the way to 1+4.
For 1+1 dilution, my old book recommends 5 min. at 68°F.

Peter--I like the last one best of that series; the weight of the mullion between the frames balances just right to my eye with the weight of the images themselves.  Very nice.

I went to a play in the city yesterday and beforehand went for a walk along the High Line.  I took along the new Exa with a Schacht 50mm lens and shot a roll of expired Portra 160 NC

Really like Mark's typesetter's blocks and Kenny's cityscapes.  Peter's Gakkenflex girl series is just sublime.

A couple of seascapes from me taken last weekend, whilst the weather was still grey.  Even by Norfolk standards, the 'lunar' landscape of The Wash at low tide is rather remote and austere, but wonderfully evocative too.

After few weeks of not posting please allow me to post couple more shots  ::)

Today and yesterday I went for shooting here in Khartoum, which is becoming more and more hazardous so I really have to push myself to go for shooting. Is not only the increasing extreme weather conditions (above 45 degrees) but also the attitude of government officials. Today at the Zoo, and as expected, a policeman shouted at me warning that photographing was not permitted. I calmly went to him and showed not only the government permit to shoot but my new brand  ID card from the foreign affairs ministry  8)  I flashed them both to the policeman and responsible of the ´Zoo´ with no success. They argued that i could not shoot because that was police area, I argued that it was police area because the policeman was in front of me but I was not going to shoot at him; they were adamant and I was adamant, so I decided to play the latino role, raising my voice and moving a lot the arms with additional gesturing, finally they surrendered  :o The funny part is that when you arrive to Khartoum airport there is a gigantic sign that says something as tourists are welcome please bring your camera  :'(
: Re: weekend May 24

Nick if you get to go to the Jarrold print museum it's well worth it. I did the 'Museum at night' thing last Friday, so most of these shots are at 1/8-1/30sec ƒ3,5 400ISO.
I think normally they only open Wednesday mornings– plenty to see including old process cameras that were taller than me and a 1950's Hell scanner as well as a special typeset of the King James Bible first page set in original typeface!
Here's a shot not that good but of a 1950's printer, my Rollei comes from the same era..

Mine are a few grab shots (one in Leadenhall market in the City of London and the other two around St Paul's Cathedral) taken with my Pentax S3 with 35mm/f2 lens on out of date (2008) Agfa Vista 200 film. (First roll of film I've put through this camera).

Carlos' kid on the Suzuki is also a fave - I like how he's using some kind of animal hide rug on the seat for comfortable ride.
Kenny - really like those urban landscapes.

Wow... Kenny's night shots are simply amazing...

I went down to the Park to visit the Dinosaurs with my old Voigtlander and some Ilford Dry Plates, possibly from the 50's.

I made these shots with 20 seconds exposure @ f4.6 , processed in Rodinal 1:50 for 15 minutes. They've came out a bit over exposured but I managed getting the levels corrected in Photoshop.

Ahh I squealed a little when I saw the dinosaurs!  :D

I was talking about those dinosaurs a few weeks ago with a friend because they're a magical part of my childhood. I was obsessed with dinosaurs as a kid and I remember reading about these dinosaurs models and it seemed like they were so far away and so old that they surely must not still be around but then I found out that they ARE still around and it just blows my mind every time I see them or think of them. It's like fantasy made real.

It still kind of boggles me that they're listed buildings too  ;D Really would like to take the speedgraphic down there sometime so I can have cyanotype dinosaurs.

Yesterday was mostly spent lazily drinking Pimm's in the park with my friends and making them marvel at my "hipster" polaroid 103 camera.

Heather, the Dinosaurs are fantastic...for sure I'm going to miss the privilege of living just next to the Park. They're there! Week days if you can are perfect as there aren't so many people around, I'd love to see some "Cyanosaurs" ;D ...

Crown Graphic and f/8 zone focus? I'd love to hear more about that for sure!  I've already loaded my roll film back...

After several evenings souping HP5+ in Rodinal, I'm within a dozen rolls, or so, of catching up on my developing backlog.  Here are three made with an Olympus OM-1 during a January trip to Portugal.

Something i think is wrong with me. I shoot with the LC-A+ but my shots look nothing like what i see on lomography or anything "lomo" for that matter. Anyways...

So many great shots. I'm starting to wonder where you find all talent..and time. Anyway. Here is one of mine from a newly built 8x10 pinhole.
