I thought we could do something similar - so what is your worst shot and why???

Here's a portrait I took of a close friend of mine, from a long time ago. Some of you guys will understand that there are times when it's quite easy to become distracted by things like light, colour, shape and form. You have to concentrate, concentrate at all times.
In fact I've always been rather grateful for this one, as it taught me a valuable lesson on composing in the viewfinder: never mind the subject, just keep your eye on the background.

If not the worst, it was certainly the most embarrassing at the time. And I should have used the ice-pick on that bl**dy chicken. ;)

It was an incredible gig and I really wanted to get some nice shots of Laura playing in the cathedral but it there was such a reverent silence that I didn't dare take the extra step out into the isle to clear peoples heads out of frame. + as it was so bright with it being daytime it was the perfect opportunity to get some great film shots... ahh well you live and grow balls I supose

I'll post on this later, but to be honest i was a bit dissapointed in the shots selected for that article. I'm sure there are plenty of absolute shite shots by all of those photographers...that was more like a selection of 'this is how this photo could have been better' shots. I think ruscha's was the most interesting in that it is about what he was trying to achieve as a photographer at the time.

I've had a lot of failures but mostly I just find them interesting, the film gives me something that I did not expect.
but on the topic of shots that could have been..
one of the few times that I actually feel that I lost something special in a photo as it changed.. the artistic tz I had tended to go green and yellow.
originally it was quite chilly with cold shades and a warm sunburst-stream of light from the setting sun.

This reminds me of when interviewees are asked to talk about some negative aspects of themselves and they say that they are 'a bit of a perfectionist',and 'insist on being punctual' or 'overly conscientious'.

One thing's for sure, I have boxes full of crappy photos. A few really screwed-up ones but mostly uninteresting stuff... and the occasional gem.
I think that's pretty much the case for every photographer out there.

I certainly hope so. :)
I have a tendency to lose my mind with some texture or shadow and then look at the result and say, yep, that shadow is the only good thing about this crappy photo.

Lately my cyanotypes have been coming out worse and worse. This one is (mostly) bad because of the angle, though... What's worse is the guy I was photoing did modelling professionally for years and he basically freaked out at how it looked like he had a huge head :-[
