This evening it suddenly struck me that my forum name was "ed.wenn" for some obscure reason and not "Ed Wenn" which is, after all, my real name. Now as forum handles go, "ed.wenn" is pretty transparent, but the more I looked at it, the more the full stop really bothered me....so I resolved to change it. Once I'd done just that, I thought others may want to do the same so I thought I'd jot down the process. I'll leave it here for a week or so and then more it to the Housekeeping board.
1. Click on your name in any forum post.
2. This takes you to the Profile Info page.
3. Under the Modify Profile heading click on Account Related Settings.
4. In the Name: This is the displayed name that people will see. section right at the top of the page you can change your name (not your username).
5. You then need to scroll to the bottom of the page, enter your password, click on Change profile and you're done.
-
please write here if you do change, as my cold, slow memory bank doesn't take changes well :D
-
I've have just changed my profile name. I am now Andrea. on account of being a ............. [fill in here] . I was Andrea. Hope that's not too confusing.
-
Well, the fact that you're now "Andrea." isn't confusing at all. However, your post explaining what you've done and why is pretty confusing ;D

I find the full stop confusing, but then I am of an age were I can be easily confused. Do I need a gap? :-\
-
Does that mean Andrea was in the Muppet show or something? ??? ??? ???
Sorry... confusing post for confusing post, I don't think this can be beat ;)
-
Who's Ed Wenn? I remember a guy here named ed.wenn, wonder what happened to him...

haha, I just hate when people change both their names and avatars. whatever happened to that guy??
-
Greetings, Ed Wenn! Welcome to Filmwasters!! :D
-
Test.
-
I tried to change my name to 'themovementofairfromanareaofhighpressuretoanareaoflowpressure-y' but it has too many characters - can you sort it for me please, mods?
I've gone for 'Ian' instead but will probably be Mr Windy again before the day's out ;)
-
I've gone the other way. One in the eye for conformity ....
[edit - I changed it back, so this post is redundant]
-
I changed my moniker to charles binns - simple but effective. I thought about changing it to "long haired love god" but that would be a lie. I've got short hair.
-
well... since everyone else makes dramatic changes to their handles I thought I'd join in ;P
-
I found some really swell ascii art of a camel that has to pee like right now, but I can't seem to change my name to that, so instead I decided my name was enough.
:-)
-
You all think you're SO DAMN funny don't you?
-
....and I guess, you are. Apart from Leon, who's a Druid and therefore not allowed to be funny.
-
So, my real name is Jack Johnson, and depending on your age and nation of origin, I'm either a boxer or a Hawaiian musician. Either way, I'm effectively invisible on the Internet. Thus the "knapjack" handle I usually use everywhere.
Now I only get mistaken for a Swedish rucksack. Apparently Google thinks I need to work out.
-
Well, I know that at least one of my fellow FIlmwasters admins shares your pain re having the same name as a prominent contemporary musician....but we can't compete on the rucksack issue!!
-
and another with an olympic medal holding diver : Leon Taylor (http://www.leontaylor.co.uk/)
-
Didn't you also have some domain name issues with a landscape gardener too, Leon?
p.s.
Mushroom print!! I'm off to Cornwall in just under a fortnight.

Sorry Ed, It aint gonna happen this side of easter. Ive got 120 undegrad essays winging their way to me in the next week or so, and a ton of revision coaching to do before then :(
-
I don't think I'll be changing my name any time soon ... it works far too well on Google. ;D 8) ;)
-
Sandeha...good point..and finding someone on google is what's most important..other than the fact I always need to come back to the forum to get correct spelling.. :) :)
-
Feel sorry for me... I have the same name as a well known brand of hair care products! I wish I'd had a pound for every salon owner that's called me to order 4 cases of conditioner!! :o
-
Och thers maer ran wun edthened...........................................but am re onlie wun rats mee, so ther 8)
-
I think I shall remain GothamTomato, if you don't mind. I like that so much better than the name my parents gave me: 'Debbie' (a seriously dumb name).
-
What's wrong with Debbie?
Nothing dumb about it in my book...
Even rather lovely sounding through my French ears.
Now, if your name was Offer Shlomi, I'd be worried ;)
(Now all my excuses to the real Offer Shlomi. While I find your name incredibly weird, I think you'd find mine just as strange. Lets just call this being on even ground :) )
Here's a link to his wiki page (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Vince_Offer), I'm sure you already know him ;)
-
Hi ;D
-
Alan, the artist formerly known as....something almost the same, but slightly different.

Just as long as you don't start singing Raspberry Beret off the top of your lungs, I think it would be OK ;)
Darn it, now I'm stuck with it in my head ;D
-
my all-time favorite line is in that song.....
"seems that I was busy doing something close to nothing"....
:)
-
I am now Steven... again. ;)
-
Just as long as you don't start singing Raspberry Beret off the top of your lungs, I think it would be OK ;)
The kind you find in a secondhand store?
-
I changed my moniker to charles binns - simple but effective. I thought about changing it to "long haired love god" but that would be a lie. I've got short hair.
I am sure this is true somewhere along the path, what do you think of my new name
-
Figured I should jump on the bandwagon!
Roger
-
Trouble is now I don't know who is who!!
-
Ya. me neither >:(
-
turn it around to the positive .... you now get to have a whole new bunch of virtual friends!
-
and since we're not that many regulars, it's just a matter or re-acquainting ourselves :)
Hello, I'm Francois. I was formerly known as Francois... so there's a first step in your conversion chart ;)
Just imagine if some hacker with a funny bone decided to randomize the names on facebook ;D
-
Who?
-
I'm tempted to change my handle to;
"Ultra secret book cabal". :-\
-
Trouble is now I don't know who is who!!
I'm still me if that helps, oh and I added a signature just so people would know who I used to be in my former fw life.
Roger
-
I've now extended to reveal my full name, rather than my Flickr site name.
-
David, cleansing I hope ;)
-
Ed .. how do I add a photo to my profile? I'm not seeing anything like a section for an upload into my profile when I go to the Modify Profile page then click Account Related settings. I'll leave the name alone for now.
thanks Jan
-
Jan. Go to profile and then Forum Profile Info. There you have the option to point at a photo.
I hope I got this right.
-
thanks Phil, I actually want to upload a photo. Does it only work by grabbing an image elsewhere on the net? Or have I missed a step and I can upload directly from my hard drive? If I can't upload I guess I'll post my smiling face on the net and then come back for the link up through the interface here.
Jan
update: I've uploaded a shot to flickr with my image. I've cut and pasted the link into the url for the photo image here at filmwasters and nothing is happening... I'm missing something I'm sure. I pasted the link then hit the 'save changes'. The changes seem to have taken a second or two but when I come back to this page no avatar is visible.

Hi Jan. Here's how you do it:
- Click on "Profile" from the menu list near the top of this page (right under the FW logo).
- That should open your Profile page. In the "Modify Profile" section click on the "Forum Profile Information" option.
- In amongst the various options available on the right side of your screen you should see the two that relate to changing your forum avatar.
- And remember to then scroll right down to the bottom of the page and confirm your changes. This is the bit some people miss!
You can upload a photo, or point to one which is on the 'Net already.
-
Hi Ed, it's Jan / Jannx here on my ongoing effort to upload an avatar. I've tried as best I can. I've got other avatars on the net and all seem to be the same process as outlined here at Filmwasters but for some reason I'm not getting this to work. Here's a few "docs" to show what I've done and a link to the image..hopefully you can comment and straighten this process for me.
As you wrote I did the following:
opened my "profile"
went to modify profile
went to Forum Profile Information
went to the "I have my own pic" and entered a link / url
went to the bottom of the page and clicked "change profile"
I then returned to the filmwasters home page and sought this comment thread to see if the image was showing. It did not. I tried this twice more just in case I missed a step however each time there was no image below my name.
I've included these jogs to assist my description above. One final note.. I'm wondering if the issue is based on the size of the jpg over at flickr? I think it's about 400kb.

thanks Jan
-
Jan, when we upload images to show they have to be less than 200k.
Perhaps this is the issue?
Phil
-
Ed - thanks. I too cannot seem to be able to load an avatar from my hard drive.

Thanks Phil, I've downsized the image from 280kb to 70 kb.. still no go. Is there a limit on pixels ie max 100 or something? I'm used to these images being auto resized like flickr does but I know some sites don't do that. What are the max dimensions for the avatar and I'll resize the pixel dimensions. Right now the image is 70 kb and 500 / 500 pixels

Janx, have you tried using this link from the share the link option on Flickr?

I asked for the full html link
