Pinhole Camera Competition: give me a reason
The prize is this all metal-and-plastic 6x9 on 620 film pinhole camera conversion. That's the same film as 120 only on a different spool. Clean, working, and ready for a respray/body pimp.

The specifications of the camera are truly astonishing. Focal length 32mm on 120 film, roughly equivalent to 13mm on 135 and so fairly wide angle. One aperture, (pinhole, about 0.3mm = f.200) and Bulb shutter. It has a PC flash sync, cable release socket and tripod socket, and a sliding cover on the red rear window. It even has a front cap (not shown). One 620 spool is provided for the take up side - the supply side will take a 120 spool. One of my best shots last year, almost certainly my best portrait, was taken with this camera on Acros, with flash ...

Eligible to enter: filmwasters who were already members on Jan 1st 2012. All you have to do is come up with the best filmwasterish justification (rational or irrational) for using the 6x9 format, and post it here below. Entries may be multiple or edited, but the deadline for selection is midnight Sunday, January 22nd, GMT.
Easy, huh! The winner will receive the cam by post.
This camera is being made available on the occasion of my 59 years - which, who knows, may actually be the age of the camera as well! The decision of the judging panel will be final and wholly arbitrary. ;)

That is a stunning shot, Sandeha.
-
yes, Sandeha, amazing! :)
-
cool looking beast!
well... because I only have TWO 6x9 cameras and I don't want to make any of them into pinhole cameras ;D hahaha~
-
that camera looks so beastly. nice shot as well.
-
Well, I don't have a super original reason for wanting this camera..but I would like to have it none the less...!! I love old cameras...but do not have one like this and the fact that it has been turned into a pinhole by a filmwaster,(drum role), is reason enough...i find it pretty ironic that will all the cameras in the world I have suddenly started to think that I really enjoy shooting with pinhole more than most of my other cameras..I like the beauty and originality you get with a pinhole that stands out from the crowd...and I think I could give this camera a good home..he(or she) :) would certainly not lack for friends!! and congrats on your 59...oh to be 59 again!
-
Ho, ho, ho, praise for the shot (however much appreciated ;) ) doesn't count as a justification for the format ... :P
A few days left ... ;D
-
wow awesome shot and really cool camera.
ok my first reason was crap
I think it would give me a design and quality to aspire to *atleast in picture quality* when making my own pinhole cameras. I'm starting from scratch and using my moderate carpentry skills to make wooden pinhole cameras. Oh yeah I will also love, cherish and use the camera :-P

Why shoot 6x9? Cos I can, dammit, that's why!
-
It’s a cute-ugly rascal and has the face only a mother could love, and
love it I would.
Send it to me!
Besides, since it’s 6 x 9 and only gets 8 shots per roll, I can waste
more than my share of film with it.
It’s a win-win.
Send it to me! :)
6 x 9 = 54
You’re soon to be 59.
I’m 56 (but don't look a day over 30) ;D
54+59+56 =169
1+6x9=55
55 is my birth year…so going by the numbers you should send it to me!
I would really love to have this camera.
Oh, and I live in the Sandia Mountains and your name is Sandeha so it
really seems the camera should come here. :)
;-)

Goddammit, Becky
You have certainly got me wanting to send you something!
-
yup - becky has won hands down. not even worth competing.
-
I can't say anything other than I know Becky will give it a good home...
-
And I wouldn't??
-
You would too Diane.
If there's one thing about our filmwasting girls, they sure know how to take care of their stuff :)
Whoever Sandeha chooses, one thing that's for sure is that they won't let it become a dust collector!
-
Possibly the ugliest camera I've ever seen - it sure needs some tender loving, but probably only the sort a woman can give.
Am I in with a chance?
-
Och dinnae mess aroon an chust gee mee re camera, an if yer awfie luckie a mite even poota film throoit at sum time beefore am deid, an thers eeven a verie, verie slim chance a wood eeventyooallie deevelop re film an pootit up on FilmWasters f'r everiewun tae see, so ther ??? ???

Right then, that's it. Please allow 24 hours for the result and adjudication to be released.

There was always bound to be a measure of frustration in declaring a winner since the rules are quite clear in allowing for only one prize. If only I had made six of them, then I would have been as satisfied as the contestants !!
As it is, Becky's (absolutely mental) math deserved a prize category of its own since it made the judges laugh out loud in fathoming the exquisite logic of it all. Unfortunately, and not through any fault she could have been aware of, Becky disqualified herself with a casual mention of the Spanish word for watermelon.
Diane's entry was excellently prepared, though by her own declaration she has a vast array of pinhole cameras and we suspect the addition of a 6x9 is unlikely to make any difference to the stellar quality of her pinhole work.
SprayNPray's entry scored highly with its subtle use of 'beastly', but a few extra adjectives would not have gone amiss. Must try harder!
The judges were moved by Thom's self-deprecating entry, though the use of 'awesome' struck this judge as a little dated, to say the least. Stick with the woodwork and you'll be fine.
Charles's entry shows he has the 'right stuff' to shoot 6x9 ... and no doubt this stiff upper-lip approach will serve him well to counter the disappointment of not winning on this occasion.
We shall, of course, assume generous chivalry was intended rather than blatant sexism, but still ...
And Ed, I'm hoping Google Translate will help me out here ... ;)
In the end, the judges were mindful to take into account the specifics of the brief and the importance of addressing the theme. One entrant clearly appreciates 6x9 enough to already possess two such cameras, and is sufficiently concerned with their construction not to want to modify them in any way, and that seems to justify (to our mechanical mind) awarding the pinhole conversion camera to this nascent 6x9 armoury.
The Snapper is on its way to Sweden.
Thank you !! ;D

Congrats Jojonas!
! esto fue divertido grandes!
Spanish used on purpose this time! ;D
-
Muy bueno. ;)
-
Excellent choice!! and you were correct..what ever would I do with another pinhole camera!! I have been reduced to seeing everything in my path as a means to pinhole creation..pathetic really... :) :)
