Team, if you have a spare 90 minutes you'll want to check out the latest podcast. Leon's done us proud with a great interview with one of the industry's most influential figures.
Episode 17: Interview with Steve Brierley from Ilford Photo – August 2011
"It’s been 11 long months since the last Filmwasters audio podcast, but we’re back with a bang as Leon interviews one of Ilford Photo’s head honchos, Steven Brierley, about the future of analogue photography. I’d write more, but if you’re an trad photo person then you already have the best reason on the planet to go and give this a listen."

EDIT: For those of you who want to skip the banter and the context, the interview with Steven starts at exactly 15 minutes in.

Skip the banter! I see it as essential ;D
-
top notch as usual and the interview is great!
Thanks guys!
-
Awesome!!! Can't download it fast enough!!!

Great stuff guys, thanks.

haha! so true ;) I rarely go anywhere without a podcast dancing on my eardrums~
listened to the lovely banter to work today, a tad low volume.
but I needed a reason to buy new earphones anyway ;D

Very interesting ... We are all rageing against the pixels and there are some bits where we know we're safe, lets hope we don't get too niche huh. Have to say, (aside from over priced cameras) thank god for Lomo for injecting and new layer of film awareness, we need people to just keep buying film, for all our sakes ... (Hey that was difficult, ok !)
Only just seen the Video podcast too, I don't remember all that about offal though ;D
Ed - I told Lionel about Filmwasters yesterday, he's got a Hasselblad kit he wants to sell ;D ;D ;D

Didn't know Lionel was/is into photography. Good for him. Does he tote a massive DSLR these days, I wonder? If you need back-up re telling him that the bottom fell out of the 'Blad market years ago and that his setup's only worth £50, just ask ;D ;D
-
Havent heard all of it yet but so far its really fantastic!!!
-
that was a good listen, chaps! :)
really great to hear ilfords standpoint on the film industry and how it had changed from that pieces of pie idea after releasing more stuff~
so leon, is that release for the book before christmas a promise? ;)
-
exciting! not listended yet, saving it for tomorrows enevitable repetitive wood machining session at work.... I go away for one weekend and it all happens!
-
Now Mr Wenn ... I've just got some E6 back and some of it's from the Modified Coronet Commander II and some from the Mam C3 ... Problems is there a a few graveyard shots ... Do I post or not ;D ;)
-
post I say! do not follow ed's non-picture-taking ways! haha :D
they're already photographed anyway ;)
to be honest I felt a bit dumbfounded at first at ed's comment on the whole graveyard thing. but I realised that I agree with him as I'm thinking there being a time a place for taking photos, that being pretty much up to the photographer.
btw, found this snippet on the blog:
looks like the use of the F-word in our Ilford interview intro has upset a few people ….. ? Apologies if so.
f-word, you mean FILM? hehe, seriously though. was there much f-wording? I guess I don't notice it at all.
-
;D ;D They are in the weekend thread ;D ;D
I didn't notice any F's either.
Conditioning ;D
-
F**king great podcast guys! ;) Really enjoyed it and interesting to hear what he has to say. It certainly made me think about supporting Ilford more.
When he said "we can't make our products without silver" it did make me wonder if anyone has a grasp of how much silver there is still in the ground? Do we know if it's years of supply at current usage? Just a thought... I might Google that one.

Miles/Jonas: The graveyard thing on the podcast was a reference to a long-running thread we started here a few years ago when thinking on photographic cliches and how a lot of photographers (and - it would seem - especially toycamera photographers) do tend to use statues and graveyards as subjects quite a lot. It was all very tongue in cheek as I'm sure we've all taken many photos of both (I certainly hold my hands up here), but it served a useful purpose in giving everyone a laugh at the time....and since then I've thought twice about photographing either subject, so it's made me less lazy as a photographer.
I'll see if I can dig out the link to the original thread.
-
Right, so the earliest reference to this started with a 'statues' thread...the graveyards obviously came later:
Ailsa from 2007: http://www.filmwasters.com/forum/index.php?topic=906.msg7548 (http://www.filmwasters.com/forum/index.php?topic=906.msg7548)
There was then an online poll a few days later: http://www.filmwasters.com/forum/index.php?topic=910.msg7700 (http://www.filmwasters.com/forum/index.php?topic=910.msg7700)
And then some fooling around in 2009: http://www.filmwasters.com/forum/index.php?topic=2264.msg20323 (http://www.filmwasters.com/forum/index.php?topic=2264.msg20323)
...I think the poor old graveyards just got bundled in with statues as some point.
-
;D ;D ;D
It's all soooo true though isn't it ;D
Being in Cuba I was constantly lurching from one stereotype to another.
It's not easy suffering for your art is it ;D
-
Aaah, but that's different (one could argue). Photo cliches are part of being a tourist, especially on your first visit somewhere. When I went to the Grand Canyon I didn't turn my back on the canyon itself and embark on a photo study of the shoes people wore when they traveled there. Heck no...I was snapping away at the big hole in the ground like film was going out of fashion; wait....I guess it was, but I didn't know that then :)
-
And suffering for your art is a whole other thing...
proof is here
