This one crops up every so often (I first heard of him via Susan), but I've just been looking at his work again courtesy of a post from Rich Burroughs on Tumblr and I just thought I'd say, Miroslav Tichý, then stand back and leave you to check him out. Sorry to see he passed away in April, but if anything that's another reason to check him out:

It's a pretty confusing website, but if you want to go straight to the work the link is http://www.tichyocean.com/work/work.html (http://www.tichyocean.com/work/work.html)

Yes, he was amazing.

...and also sported the must-have 'very interesting back story'. Great combo.

Never heard of the chap before but he has a very interesting body of work.
Having had a quick whizz through the website, the thing that strikes me as poignant and depressing is the tab headed "problems". It is alleged that his former carer is trying to purloin rights to his images and his other property. There are some nasty, greedy people out there........ :o

Oh well... The grandfather of lo-fi is now gone...

I had never heard of him either Ed, so thanks for sharing! Very interesting work.

The work might be interesting... but you should really see the cameras!
Some of them look so icky I wouldn't touch them with a ten foot pole :)

Saw an exhibit of his work in NY, quite interesting and yes the cameras took homemade to a whole new level. Icky would be an understatement.

How did I not hear of his passing? I have always been so fascinated by him and his homemade cameras. Great links!
