: polaroid week - on now! (through to friday)
: Heather May 05, 2009, 09:53:16 AM
Sorry for being late on reporting it. I was considering putting my polaroid from yesterday up in the weekend thread then realised it'd be more fun to post a new thread about the week.
Flickr's blog even posted about it
http://blog.flickr.net/en/2009/05/01/roid-week-2009/
and I suddenly noticed my polaroids on flickr from 'roid weeks past started getting a few more looks than they normally have. It's a nice way of getting people to look at your new polaroids for a week.

Not sure what else I'll take pictures of this week but that's part of the fun of it. Forced creativity for a week!

here's mine from yesterday

I really like that - great quality from a 'roid!

Please post some more.

I agree with wildberry - the quality!  Hopefully I can get off my duff and take a few polaroids in commemoration as well.   No wait... I WILL!

I was just listening to a podcast (#86 from TWIP / This Week in Photography) regarding Hilco / Gordon Brothers acquiring the Polaroid brand and assets ("and dignity") and opining that they will most likely not ever revive polaroid (SX70) film "since it's not the wave of the future"), however continue to use the name for new products that align to the brand of "instant image" such as portable printers and what-not.

If you could have heard me yelling at the radio as I was driving...  we need everyone to counter by posting their polaroids!  :)

Polaroid week is pretty serious film wasting on flickr. It's a shame they can't be bothered to restart production. That PoGo stuff is awful looking especially compared to a good sx-70 600 film shot.

Here's my 'roid of the day. My hamster Rolleikins. This is the first time I allowed her out on the floor too. Then I discovered after this photo that she has velcro paws - tried picking her up and she tried taking the carpet with her!

I did something different for the Challenge(your workplace) today. Used the polaroid 103 camera and really really expired (free, ebay misunderstanding) 667 film.

"Top photo is my boring stuff - housewife, crappy dishes. bah.

bottom two photos are my hopefully additional job (soon) of selling my cyanotypes.

Photos should actually be reversed, photo on left(bottom) is a washed cyanotype hanging up to dry, photo on the right is the photo exposing under my UV light (which is a philips facial solarium)

polaroid 103 camera
really really expired (09/2006) type 667 originally iso 3000, rated at ISO 100 these days. "

Woah! Love that one. Good morning, your quarters.

Guitar in the back ground looks rarver nice. I have a few myself, but never take photos of them. Yours adds a bit of extra flavour in this shot though. Lovely snap.

...actually the more I look at it, the weirder it looks. What type of guitar is it?

Hi Ed, its a small-bodied acoustic handmade in Canada, same as the one in my self-portrait.  The make is Art et Lutherie.  It is a really nicely made piece of cedar wood and came labelled with the autographs of all the workers involved in making it.  It really punches out a great loud sound for a small guitar and is very handy for keeping in my boot when travelling round and do the odd spontaneous gig at open mic nights etc.

I noticed elsewhere that you too are a musician.  Hope to hear some of your stuff one day.

They are made by the same company who makes Godin Guitars (I've just learned)
Take a look at Godin Guitars (http://www.godinguitars.com/). They are top notch and have been in the hands of some great musicians... just look at their players section. Leonard Cohen, David Crosby, Wyclef Jean, Leahy, Jeff Lynn and the guys from Nine Inch Nails... just to name a few.

Hi Heather,

I don't think I've ever seen such stunning quality from an SX70. Really lovely. Which camera did you use?

I've never gotten anything that sharp.

Sonar OneStep SX-70 so it autofocuses :) Which is why the Rolleikins photo is a bit off... seems to be more on the carpet than on her.

Actually the onion picture I've had such good response on was taken in about 30 seconds in drizzly rain, keeling on wet grass.

It's just normal 600 film not sx-70 film and I set the exposure dial all the way to darken.

It's over now, but it was a buncha fun. I guessed that there was, at roughly a buck fifty a shot, $5,463 collectively spent.

Here are a few of my submissions...

Woah, Indeed on that guitar shot!
I'm late to the table here but also noted the fine strings in the background.

Any closer shots of this beauty?

Me loves the guitars!   :) :)

Thanks, Ann - you know I love your work, think the world of you!

I joined Filmwasters about three years ago.

In that span I've detected a good mix of talent, hubris, humility, goofy, weird and the occasional decent photograph 8^)

And though I wouldn't fault anyone here, I've always felt a bit like an outsider. But that doesn't stop me from coming back now and again.
