Title: Color in The Sub - Some Experimenting...
Post by: Skorj on July 22, 2006, 02:58:25 PM
Some appear to have seen my recent comments on the Bessa R3a (more than I thought it seems; hi there okonomyaki-tomadachi-san), so with some good color stuff under its belt, I've been asked to post some more results.

I've always liked PN400 (branded FujiPro400 in Japan), especially behind the single coated lens of the Canonet, but this is the first time I've really used it in large amounts in The Sub.

It is a film with marvellous latitude, glorious colors, loves being pushed or pulled at least a stop, sharp as (well beyond what you would expect from an ISO400), with none of the unforgiving mess I seem end up in with Fortia. These have all been pulled one stop.

This day we drove north to an abandoned mining town. Stopped for fresh cucumbers and miso paste from a country store (free!), and drove an hour or so up a single lane road, in the rain, trees brushing the car on both sides, scrabling over rock falls at every corner. When we got there, it was raining, increasing the feeling of abandonment and decay, with the rain falling through the roofs of many buildings.

These were shot with either the 40mm f 1.4 S.C, or the 21mm f 4, mostly wide-open, and down to about 1/15s, hand-held. God, I love RFs. The Sub itself can of course be seen here: http://filmwasters.com/blog/archives/49

Have fun. Skj.

That's a hell of lens you've got on that thing! I can see the attraction now.

Some lovely shots. I find myself looking almost exclusively at B&W work these days. Nice to have a wake-up call to broaden my outlook.

Thank you.

Skorj, the red chair is just stunning, I love the balance of the green outside. The colours are so rich.

Lovely stuff.
