: New Light Meter in the Wild.

Thanks all for the recommendations on purchasing a new light meter. The Sekonic L-308 was the option I chose:

Small, fast and very accurate (0.1, 0.3 and 0.5 f-stop options), I am very pleased with it. While my Gossen Digisix was convenient, it lacked metering versatility and probably suffered from some accuracy or at least sensing issues (small sensor).  Off into the wilderness yesterday the new Sekonic even coped well with raining volcanic ash (well better than me coughing everywhere that is):

With little latitude in my Type-665, less so as it is well expired, there was less pushing and pulling post camera than I would usually expect. I might have just been lucky though:

With ash from the volcano falling all around we stopped for gas and a quick drink.

Terrific images.

And a good choice of meter as well. I have a Minolta flash meter that is very similar in design to this one. It was such a relief when I got it: so easy to use, as opposed to the older type of meter I used to have (with the dial & all the numbers), which was always confusing to try to read.

One thing to remember, ((which you probably already know), is, if you are going any length of time without using it, take the battery out before you store it away (the same as you would for a camera). Those AA batteries seem to get salty faster than regular camera batteries.

yeah someday i need to get a light meter and actually use it. i have a polaroid meter, but it's a bit crap. seems to be either all the way up the dial or all the way down.

Sure! Anyone who wants to PM me their address, and I will scoot off some postcards of this one... Seeing as I missed the formal informal postcard exchange. Skj.

I have that last photo as my desktop wallpaper at work. It looks great on the huge monitor I'm using today.
