				Sorry to Hijack your thread Stu - but I've got to ask EdtheNed - Do all you Scotch ( ;) )people  actually start every sentence with "Och"? I've seen Trainspotting at least twice, so consider myself quite an expert on the northern folk, yet I cant recall any of the characters  saying "och".  Have I been mislead by the mass media yet again?

Back OT: a lot of those techniques seem like they might be interesting if used for a particular purpose, and although I get a bit tired of the lomo "here's something wacky (and expensive!) you can do!" at least it's encouraging film use.  Can't see anyone scrubbing their digi sensor with a toothbrush!

				Actually, there's a trick to understanding edthened: read it out loud using a slightly phonetic pronunciation... works for me.

The one that caught my eye involved rice and mold and spores on the negs (http://shop.lomography.com/labrats/risotto.html) and produced pretty cool effects like this:

I once read that a traditional Icelandic culinary delicacy involved burying sheep fat (or something) in the ground for several months until it had decomposed to the perfect level to be eaten. Yummy! This rice technique reminded me a little of that.

About the lomo film cooking... not something I would do.

				urine soaked? I thought it was just shark that is buried in the ground and .... ferments... Yeah wikipedia agrees with me on this... Alternatively, they have lovely expensive smoked lamb roasts in Iceland and Skyr (a sort of 'cheese' that is like very thick, rich yoghurt, it is very nice!!) 
Then there's various Lye-treated fish products out there, stuff like Lutefisk http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Lutefisk
The problem with the rice & mould thing is, how do you stop it eating your whole negative over time? At least scratching it up is nearly archival. Inviting mould to eat your gelatin-based emulsion seems like not such a good idea.

				The type of shark they use excretes urine through its skin, so when they bury it in the ground it essentially ferments in its own widdle.  Or so I've been told.
They did also use the human stuff as a preservative in olden times, but now tend to use yummy lactic acid instead when pickling their ram's testes!

As for me, the most I'll go for is Surstr?mming (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Surstr%C3%B6mming)... too bad they don't carry it at Ikea  ;D
