not much happening here, so i just drove about 26 miles north of here, hoping to encounter some storms. they all vanished as soon as i got to the area, but took a couple photos. wanted to try out my big swinger 3000 that's been sitting on my shelf for two years. interesting camera... has a bizarre exposure method, with a little red window you look into, twisting the knob until the word 'okay' is clearest. also has a bit of vignette and some blurring along the edges.
it was also 102F or so, and 667 always acts funny when it's really hot.

No shooting at all for me this weekend (not a single solitary frame). Lots of stuff to do round the house...primary amongst them however is setting up the 'office' again (i.e. the place where Daddy scans his negs) now that both kids are sharing a single room finally. It's taking longer than it should (why am I always surprised by that?)...the delays have been brought into focus more than usual due to the fact that I finally bought a new PC last week (the previous one is 6 years old and really starting to struggle). However, until the new office is up and running I won't even be able to turn the damn thing on. So it just sits there in its box, taunting me with its superhuman specifications, laughing at my inadequacies and my lack of time.

Shot a bunch of fruit still-lifes/portraits. Developed them this morning and found out 2 were horribly underexposed and one was strangely screwed up (one side, at a slanting angle, completely black).
I took a shot on my wide&slim today... While my husband was getting some money out of the cash machine, my friend was waiting by a hanging basket post beneath the basket so I quickly took out my camera and snapped a picture. He made such a funny face after he realised what I had done!  :D Someday soon this roll of film WILL be finished...

Well Saturday yielded nothing as it rained all day! However today we did venture out to Cirencester and whilst wandering the back streets discovered that they have the oldest surviving Lido in the country! So took a roll of that beauty...a rarity in this country now and a fond memory of my youth...to be developed!

Shot with this for the first time.. did some film tests so hopefully something will come out.. used the 6x12cm insert, so it should be around 120 degrees (ish) pano..

Took the wife to Oxford to do some shopping so I shot the tourists while she shopped.

Just did some more exploring around town this passed weekend. Ive been amazed at how many abandoned buildings ive been able to find. Also got my Mamiya RZ67  and shot some test rolls with it and now am waiting for them to come back from the lab. Once i get those back ill take the RZ out for serious.

I've become interested in the kelp that wash up on the shores around here, both as sculptural objects and drawn lines on the landscape. The first two images are darkroom prints I made this weekend, the third one is a scan of a negative made on Sunday.

Xander, agree about those last 2 being wonderful.

rdbkorn, I'm with you on the 'seaweed as sculpture' angle...problem for me is that I've never been able to get what I see at the time onto film. You've made a better fist of it than I. My fave is the third because I think the image is less busy and the stronger for it.


...and in other news, I type this from the new PC. The office is ready and once I've installed PS, the scanning (and inevitably the posting) will begin. Can't wait. It's been nearly 2 years since I had a stable setup for my digi-darkroom.

The holga pano will be a work in progress.. the instructions are not well translated, but I did end up with one long exposure for an entire roll of 120.. no breaks or lines- just one giant pano  for the entire roll.. (which made it fun to scan) but the single exposures look like this...

Great work up here some cracking images. Here is a close up still life using a 60mm lens with an extreme close up filter  attached. Weather has been cat lately rain after rain day in day out .  Anyway had to do a bit of messing in PS to get this, hoping it will print a bit easier.  The cheap filter is just attached with bluetac so get a lot of fall-off.  There is another two weekenders over here on another post I made http://filmwasters.com/forum/index.php?topic=1542.0 (http://filmwasters.com/forum/index.php?topic=1542.0)

well as I said at the beginning of the thread I went to Cirencester the weekend and discovered that they have the oldest surviving Lido in the country! Well they told me that. Here are a few frames that I have run through the scanner...it was a cool place that demanded recording on the swc.

Also got a film back today from the weekend, my first through the New Diana that has been sat on a shelf for months. Need to scan that but will post if the thread is still active.

rdbkorn - Love the kelp shots, I have a degree in Marine Biology & I know it sounds slightly odd, but i really love kelp! There is something so architechtural about the way it grows, i think its beautiful!

So I finally got my first "toy" camera, a Holga 120N and shot a couple rolls of film over the weekend.  I really didn't know what to expect but it was definitely fun.  On a side note, when I was out wandering around shooting, I actually got stopped by a police officer. He asked me what I was doing and told him I was just out taking pictures, he asked to see my ID, did a background check, and spent about 10 minutes trying to see if I really was taking pictures or if I was really doing something else.  Finally, after he felt comfortable that I was really telling the truth, he told me that he was just checking to see if I was "a terrorist" planning an attack by taking pictures of buildings.  Quote, "if you were taking pictures of plants and flowers, then I'd understand, but I don't know what you were taking pictures of those ordinary buildings for..." Geez... :P

Sorry to hear your first plastic experience was marred by such idiotic behaviour.  It's an awful and totally unjustified thing to happen.

the police thing is becoming an increasing problem here too.  Stories of people having their cameras/ mem cards/ films confiscated for taking pics of "sensitive" buildings.  Often it seems to be initiated by over sensitive parents making complaints of people taking pics of their kids.  It's become a civil liberties issue serious enough to get it's own debate in the House of Lords (our upper house of Parliament) and hopefully something will be done about it.

The police have no right to remove your camera etc in this country without a court warrant - and if you werent told that an application for a warrant is being made, I doubt it is valid.  If you can put up with the hassle, I'd ask to go to the station and say nothing until you've seen a solicitor.  But I doubt most people could put up with the hassle.  Often the police are double handed, and now they wear their anti stab gear all the time, they have quite an intimidating presence.  It's often easier to give in, as many people seem to do, but then the police get away with it.  It isnt illegal to take pictures of anything from a public area (other than military property etc all of which has big "no Photography" signs on it), that include "sensitive" buildings. And as for parents worrying about paedophiles taking pictures of children in the street .... would they really do that in broad daylight in front of everyone?  The News of the World and the Daily Mail have a lot to answer for - but then again, I'm always dumbstruck at how people react to the rubbish in those papers.

blimey - that was all a bit much for a sunday morning.  Too much coffee I think.

The movies have a lot of answer for too. They're the only ones that show terrorists taking photos of intended targets. In real life, no convicted terrorists have ever taken photographs (digital or otherwise) of their targets.  They visit but they just scope/check out then leave. The thought police will be out soon harrassing tourists for looking at stuff.
That and that silly "car crash = bursts into flames" business which seems to make people freak out unnecessarily when that very rarely happens in real life.

I've found that people hassle you when you are actually busy and needed to be elsewhere, instead of having a whole day to spend sitting around the police station. Sod's law.

I love your kelp photo's Rdbkorn.
I just saw a documentary with 'fields' of kelp in China (you get that when China hosts olympics), they even make rooftops from it.
I love the mountain from a plane photo too, by Outofcontxt.

About making photo's of public buildings : it's sad they want (to teach) you to be intimidated. I hope you will never be.

About what I shot this weekend : I was in a abandoned factory. I too love abandoned buildings, but my country has a lot of people and not much space, so abandoned buildings will not stand for a long time. But, I was in one, and... after 12 shots with my Holga I noticed it was on B all the time  ::)
I had other camera's too with me, which I used also, and maybe something will get out of the Holga, I don't know yet ( I don't develop my own film)

I think if the cop tried to take my camera away, I'd probably get myself arrested  >:(  In the end though, it just ended with a handshake, and the cop thanking me for being "cooperative".

BTW, really nice images Andrea, I absolutely love the first one, it almost makes me feel I'm peering into somebody's nostalgic memories
