Anyone out there know anything about autochromes? A friend of mine is about to get involved in a TV series about the process (or maybe a one-off show....might be a bit obscure for a whole series!!) and he sent me the link the this site (http://www.autochrome.org). Pretty interesting stuff.

There was a well known photographer--can't think of her name right now--who used this process early on.
For fashion I think.
There was an exhibit in LA recently--just can't think of the darn name.
I'll research.

I came across this thread in APUG by accident looking for something else. I started to read it, but my head started to spin so i decided to get some supper instead. It looks beautiful with the muted colors....it must be a pain to recreate. I hope he has much success.

PS....please ignore the highlighted words....it was a part of my crazy search.

Something to do with layers of dyed potato starch (!).. I remember reading about it once- I think it was the Jim Scrugg blog via the autochrome.org page Susan linked.
Must have been an Irish invention

Check out Joerg's related post from awhile back. I recall this was one of the first places I had seen anything regarding the process. While this is WWI history, but perhaps could lead to more...

That is one incredible link Erika. It's odd because I was looking around for some info on Autochromes the other day and couldn't really find much. This info is great and the images are really beautiful.
Hope your friend finds enough info to make a program out of it Ed.

Guys, I'll point my friend, Joel, at this link and get him to post if there's any news on the program. Thanks for everyone's input and for those links. It's all fascinating stuff.
