Title: U-Boat guy in film "Das Boot" using ?????

There's a character in the film "Das Boot" using what looks like a Leica rangefinder.
Do any of the film buffs here know what model it is??

I'm no Leica geek, but a google around reveals it was probably a Leica IIIc.  My grandfather was in the Kriegsmarine on a U-boat during WW2 (my other grandfather was in the British Royal Marines attempting to kill him...) and left me his standard issue binoculars - amazing optics they had then.
