Eric Hathaway, editor of Plastic Fantastic magazine, has sent out a letter informing subscribers that it is ceasing publication effective May 1. To summarize his letter, they couldn't cut it fanancially and it was personally bleeding Eric dry.
From hindsight, some of the factors that led to PL's demise are obvious: lack of a sustainable subscriber base and lack of outside revenue sources (ads). I know Eric was insistent that, apart from the Holgamod's ad on the back cover, that the magazine be ad-free. And I'm not knocking his decision to do so either. It's takes a lot of courage to do what Eric attempted to do. And for that, I am eternally grateful.
In any case, I'm truly sorry to see it go. I know it was a labor of love for Eric and I'll really miss getting my issues at my doorstep every few months. I always felt there was room for more than one publication devoted to toy cams. Damn shame. :(

bummer and I never got one issue. I submitted stuff to them a month or so ago and he wrote that he would like to use my stuff but never got back to me. Now I guess i know why. :'(

That *is* a damn shame. The plasticfantasticonline.com domain is already down; do you have an email address for him? I was about to order all of the back issues and am wondering if that's still a possibility.

Randy at Holgamods may have an email address for him other than the plasticfantasticonline domain.

Thanks, I'll give that a go.

Word has it that Eric has decided to give Plastic Fantasic another lease on life. The web site says "under construction". Woohoo!

That's great news. The world of photography needs people with the derring do and enthusiasm of Eric. I love his JFDI attitude and am a big fan of the magazine.

i was also a big fan of his DIY attitude, and the magazine was also extremely classy looking. a quality purchase!

Thanks for posting this, it's spurred me on to buy some back issues and to look forward to the new stuff.
