By way of explanation - I am a member of my local camera club in Scotland (www.mearnscameraclub.co.uk) and shall be it's president for the following year.
Our club has a variety of interests ranging from die-hard traditional enthusiasts to hardline digital converts (and every shade in-between). They are, however, a fun bunch of folk who are friendly and open to new photographic ideas.
Nervously I have offered to do a talk on toy-photgraphy for next year's syllabus. I think it will be a lovely contrast to the sort of photography club-memebers normally take and are exposed to (totally sharp perfectionism!). Word spreads fast and I have been approached by another club who would also like me to speak.
So here is the deal - I'll give a brief talk about my own holga experiences but really wish to wax lyrical about the people on the web I find inspirational. ie YOU!!!!!
I shall have a digital projector with the aim of displaying website images. The audience will consist of 20-30 people. Would you be willing for me to show some of your website images and talk about my interpretations of your toy-camera work (or rather how wonderful your work is!!)?
-
feel free to use any of mine if you want to Dave - just let us know how it goes afterwards.
-
Should you choose you have free reign over my crappy crap. Have at it.
-
Yay! Thanks Leon + Tread. That's reduced the panic somewhat ;D
It could be anytime between September and next May! But I will be sure to get feedback.
-
:) Oh yeah, and my crappy crap too. Most of my stuff is in a gallery at TC.com or on my blog.
I recently took a few Diana prints AND the actual Diana camera to a local camera club meeting I belong to. It's also a mix of folks into both digital or film. And, of the older male variety who have mostly been shooting film for many years (large format shooters). ::) They had never seen a Diana, and were very intrigued by the images. I would have to say that they really appreciated the opportunity to see something different. Some of them had seen a Holga as another member had brought that camera in with some images last year. :)
Have fun!

WONDERFUL!
I'm dead chuffed now ;D. Thanks Tammy.

Go for it :)
-
Sounds good - might even try and come up :)
-
Thanks Laura and Carl.
Everyone is more than welcome of course! ;D I didn't realise you were a native Carl - it's now so obvious from your gallery! I'm amazed at how dense I can be sometimes..
-
That native that I was born in Singapore and spent most of my early years in Kent - but enough time in Scotland to be a native and married to one too :)
-
Same here - I'm from N.Ireland originally but been in Scotland for about 16 years now :)
-
Sure--
If you're still in need--happy to help. Just let me know what you need.
Good luck with it. :)
-
Thanks Susan. I was hoping I'd be able to sing your praises :D
-
Sounds like you already have a list of illustrious toy camera names on board, but if you still have room you're welcome to sneak me in.

Smashing - thanks Janet.
Here's hoping Randy at Holgamods gets a bulk order from Aberdeen next season ;) :D

Looks like you've got quite a response but I'd love to offer up my stuff as well:

Cheers Chricel and Bill.

I'll jump on board too... if you haven't already done it and you would like to include any of my work. have at it.
-
Thanks Zoe. :)
I have one definite date for next Feb. I should get the other one in a few days.
-
Not that you need anymore (at the risk of your talk extending into three days ;D), but go ahead and use my toy stuff if you need to.
I'm up in Edinburgh most weeks for work. I haven't checked your club's web page yet, so you could be miles away from there, but if you're nearby let me know and maybe we could meet up...although I'm usually pretty busy when I'm there, but who knows.
-
Cheers Ed.
Edinburgh is about a 2.5 hr drive (or train journey) away. :)
-
Feel free to move about....just make sure I have clothes on.

some of the holga images i've made kallitypes of... feel free to use them...
-
Thanks aboot. I recognise one of those from issue 2 of Lightleaks magazine :)
-
Sorry to bump this post but I'd like to say a big Thank You to everyone that let me display their work.
I gave my talk on Tuesday evening in Aberdeen. Sorry for not inviting anyone but it was a last minute affair (I should have another date in Feb/March with plenty off notice).
Your work was digitally projected pretty large and looked stunning. Overall the comments afterwards were positive and they were impressed by the atmosphere and quality of the work.
And by the way, you haven't lived until you've seen this image by Beck displayed on a huge huge screen: http://rebecca.my-expressions.com/archives/3786_1610642487/91256 :)

Dave, please feel free to use my stuff the next go-round... and congrats on getting your work into B&WP Magazine. It's truly great stuff. :)
