Title: Weekend May 19th to 21st, 2023
Post by: Kai-san on May 19, 2023, 01:40:33 PM
I've started doing landscape photography with a panorama camera of the swing lens type. It's great fun, but there are challenges in sunny weather. There's no problem shooting directly against the sun or with my back towards it, but at an angle there is often an issue with flare. I should think that the lens on my 1971 Horizont is coated, so that's probably not the issue. The only solution I see is a (pretty) assistant with a parasol.  ;)

Lovely landscapes, does the flare manifest as a light vertical line as I got that on sunny days with my Horizon 202, though it's been a while since I last used it here's an example.

The vertical light stripe is a sign of shutter timing problems, a service will fix that. The flare I experience is like normal lens flare, but since I cannot put a hood on this lens and it rotates almost 180 degrees, this problem is difficult to avoid.

I've looked at/lusted after various 6x17 and pano cameras for most of my adult life, but could never make the use case for owning one. In recent years, I've settled for shooting two or three sequential images and stitching them together in Photoshop. For the handful I make each year, it's enough to satisfy the need.

Canon New F1, 35/2.8, 3 frames on TMAX 100 under the giant softbox provided by the annual May marine layer here, aka "May Gray". (We also now have "Graypril" and the more traditional "June Gloom", which is great when you need soft light and terrible for inspiration otherwise.)

Several years ago I made a lens hood out of cardboard and gaffers tape for my KMZ FT-2.  It fit over the entire top front of the camera.

These were shot at Point Vicente in Palos Verds, California.  Kodak Retina IIIC with Adox HR-50 developed in beer.

Here's one of a local hockey hero that I took on my experimental 35mm pinhole camera.

I need to fix that overlapping frame problem 😣

black and white it is!

I'm back to my Ricoh madness/attraction. I don't know what it is about them, but I really like the low coolness they have in use.
These are from the XR-10, with a recently acquired XR Rikenon f/2 L lens.

Jean Béliveau? I'd say he's a bit more legendary than just local, local though he may be. More hockey pics!

It's funny because I live about 10 minutes away from his house.
And on my street lives Jacques Lemieux of Canadiens and LA Kings fame 😎

I also think they have a statue of "Butch" Bouchard at a local college.

Thanks, the light in west Texas is often really nice. It makes taking photos a lot easier.
