: An intro...
: Pete_RDecember 28, 2007, 03:53:17 PM
I've been lurking for a while so I thought it was about time I posted an intro to myself.
My real name is Peter Robinson and I took my first photographs when I was about 10 - that was 40 years ago - and have done so more or less continuously since. I'm a dedicated film user though I do all my printing digitally these days having not had a real darkroom for nearly ten years. If anyone reads Mike Johnston's blog they might have seen the film ribbon I came up with. Some thought it a good idea, others didn't but a number of people are using it. If you don't have a clue what I'm talking about, look here: http://www.monopix.co.uk/ribbon.shtml (http://www.monopix.co.uk/ribbon.shtml).
I have a site at http://www.monopix.co.uk (http://www.monopix.co.uk) where I have some of my piccies and some other info if anyone is interested.
Thanks for reading and I look forward to some erudite conversations in the future - though I suspect the eruditeness will not be mine. And just to prove the point, I'm about to post a couple of questions I hope some of you more knowledgable people will be able to answer.
And I would just like to add what a great idea the podcasts are. I'm looking forward to more in the future.

some nice shots on the site. the lone castle looks like the one in 'monty python and the holy grail'. but maybe that's cuz we don't have castles around here and they all look the same to me (in a cool way)!

Welcome indeed! Funny how tacky ribbons mean nought until you see one that fits with your world. Looks neat.
More to the point, have you ever heard of OWL? Ha ha. Love the stuff - more please! Arigato. Skj.

And thanks to you for using it - that's what it's there for.

Monopix, Don't be so modest. Your train photos are superb. Even though the locomotives are static the drifting of steam and smoke gives a sense of imminent departure on a great journey. Lets see some more !!

Hi Peter.
I remember the film ribbon from Mike's blog and thinking what an excellent piece of design it was.
And I love your steam engine photographs! I have to admit it's normally the kind of subject matter that makes me want to crawl into a corner and weep, so I am full of admiration for you for creating some genuinely arresting images.

Hi Ailsa
Thanks for the generous comments - though I'm not sure how much actual 'design' went into the ribbon, but I'm glad you liked it - and the photographs.
I keep checking by squarepictures.net in the hope of seeing more of yours - but alas, no. How soon is 'soon'?

Thanks for asking, Peter - it's definitely become 'later' rather than 'sooner', hasn't it!
The design is in place, and the writing won't take me long, but I need to catch up on a bucketload of processing, and unfortunately my scanner is being temperamental and putting all sorts of weird electronic noise into the scans. However, assuming I catch up on/overcome these obstacles, I'm hoping to have the site up and running by the end of February.
