: PSA: Instax and Blizzards don't mix
: Francois March 01, 2022, 03:30:01 PM
Well, I just discovered something I wasn't expecting.
It turns out that Instax and blizzards don't mix.
On Sunday, we has a sudden snowstorm. It was really beautiful, so I grabbed the only camera I had that was loaded and headed out into the white void.
I could see some faint trees in the distance, all the houses had all but disappeared. I figured that the automatic flash would freeze snowflakes in mid air for a more wintry look, so I snapped the first one and rushed back in to warm the print up and see if it needed a re-take.
The print was all white... so I went back and changed the aperture to get it a bit darker, came back in and guess what? same friggin thing!
As I went out for the third time, the storm had passed and things were almost back to normal.
So, here are my two failures...

based on your description, I can see it all perfectly well!
Using instax has been the ultimate lesson in patience and frustration for me ever since I got one of those cameras.
The only time they kind of turn out is if I'm inside my truck shooting through the tinted windows, which I have measured to be one full stop difference.

In full sun here in new Mexico, my shots are always blown out. I keep thinking I'll tape some Rosco filter in front of the lens but keep forgetting.

At any rate, I like your photos. I can imagine it all!

You can see a bit the tree on the left and the pine on the right.
Also... yellow snowflakes? WTF happened there 😕

Maybe a ND filter would cure this whiteout, 2X or more?

I know it might sound strange but there's a one stop difference between both pictures...
