: I'm told it's the weekend...

...but these days everything just sort of blurs together, so who the hell knows. In any case, I give you quahogs. It was after a storm, and the beach was littered with the things.

It is Friday, clam chowder day!

These are from my visit to Monument Valley on the last weekend before I headed home.  Leica IIIc with Kodak Panatomic-X expired 3/1963, developed in Kodak HC-110 dilution B.

Leitz Summaron 3.5cm f/3.5 lens.

After I left the park I decided to take a scenic drive back to Gallup.  This is on Highway 163 in Utah, I saw this in my rear view mirror so I pulled over and used my Canon 135mm lens.  A very short distance from where I shot this there were a bunch of cars pulled over but it didn't look interesting so I kept going.  When I was mapping the shot on Flickr I saw what the attraction was on the map.  This is where they filmed the famous scene in Forest Gump where he stopped running across the country.  I guess it's a tourist attraction now.

It's amazing how these rocks stay balanced like this.  Leitz Elmar 5cm f/3.5 lens.

I've taken that exact same shot, about 25 years ago, but it would take me years to find it. It was also used on the cover of an Eagles album and I was looking for it as we drove through the valley. Like you I saw in in my rear view mirror.

1985 The Best of Eagles.  I didn't know that.  I have several eagles albums but not that one.  https://www.discogs.com/master/59536-Eagles-The-Best-Of-Eagles (https://www.discogs.com/master/59536-Eagles-The-Best-Of-Eagles)

I really need to get out to Monument Valley. It's on the short list, but I'd really like to drive out, and that's a major undertaking (~2300 miles). Flying seems fairly undesirable at the moment.

It’s been on my list since I first watched Roadrunner cartoons.  I must say, I was disappointed that I didn’t see a single roadrunner, coyote or any Acme merchandise.  If you do go plan on spending some time, there’s so much to see in that area besides Monument Vally.

I've been as close as Cortez, CO, and I've also been further south in AZ (Cottonwood and Prescott) and NM (Santa Fe and Taos), but just haven't made it to Monument Valley. Is there anything in particular you recommend seeing?

Oh, and there's a Chuck Jones gallery in Santa Fe that has some really great coyote and roadrunner art - pricey though.

Not a far drive from monument valley is Canyon de Chelly in Arizona, and in Utah there's Gooseneck State Park and Valley of the Gods, both very close to Monument Valley.  Also in Southeast Utah there's Arches National Park, Canyonlands, Bryce Canyon, Bears Ears National Monument.  You could wander around that area for weeks and still not see enough.  I really enjoyed Canyon de Chelly.  All these areas are just as good as Monument Valley in my opinion.  Grand Staircase-Escalante National Monument is one I didn't make it to but I understand that's a great area as well.  I did go to Bryce Canyon years ago but didn't spend enough time there.  Becky knows that area really well, she could recommend stuff as well.

It would be really fun to go there and leave by the side of the road a box with the Acme logo. I bet it would instantly become a tourist attraction!
