Title: The hole in the lens boards for 4x5
Post by: Ken B: eyes, I just do eyes. on April 18, 2021, 04:02:18 PM
Hello, still alive and lurking, it has come to my notice that some holes in the lens board for my Wista are offset, namely the 75mm.

Is this to allow for more movement (adjustment) or is it because there is a big bit of glass at the rear?

Cheers

Hi,
Many of the press cameras only have front rise. You would have to drop the bed for fall. To achieve a bit of fall more easily, the hole is sometimes offset towards the bottom of the board.

At least that is what I think.

Makes sense.
Though I've never seen offset holes in lens boards.
If I saw one, I probably would have thought that the guy in charge of the punch was sleeping on the job  ;D
Though, if it's offset only in one direction, it's planned. If it's offset in two directions, it's a dud.

They are common. I've several. I think it is about extending front movements. Clever!
