Thanks for sharing that Jeff, great article and photos.  I was in Orleans Parish after hurricane Katrina working on the cleanup, the destruction that storm caused was incredible.  I remember hearing about some towns that were completely wiped off the map.  Many of those towns have since been re-built to new codes that put homes and businesses up on stilts.

But still it's just a matter of time before the water raises higher than those stilts...
Looking at these pictures, I'm struck by how much devastation there still is in that area. I really didn't expect it.

I haven't been to Louisiana Bryan but I spent a decade on the North Carolina coast where lots of houses are on stilts. I weathered two hurricanes there which were both thankfully minor compared to Katrina, but whenever I see a house on stilts I still get that sense of foreboding.
