: Cyanotypes, anyone?
: jojonas~ July 05, 2020, 01:52:56 AM
every summer recently I get in the mood for some cyanotypes, so here's a few from me.

anyone else getting into it or have some old ones to share? :)

the first one is a darkroom themed cyanotype, exposed while wet.
the second a contact print of a guy cutting stone pavement. did it in my notebook and was plesantly surprised how well it went.

I've been toying with the idea of doing cyanotypes for a while, without ever taking the plunge.

Very nice cyanotypes Jonas, love the second one! The Silvergrain Classics magazine (previously PhotoKlassik International) had a very good article on cyanotypes in their last issue, seems like this is growing trend. As I understand you just have to fix the paper after exposure, do you have to do that in a darkroom?

The fun thing about them is that it can all be done under regular artificial light. The iron salts are only sensitive to uv light.

I've been thinking of getting into it for quite some time. I've got a pack of sunprint paper with some sheets left in it.

A long time ago, I used to do them. This is the only one I can find.

thanks for sharing a shot pete! I'm impressed by the borders you got on it.

yeah, prep it all in indoors light and just rinse with water to wash away the unexposed parts :)
you can buy the chems in well sorted photo dealer shops. I'm ordering from here though https://cyanotype.co.uk (https://cyanotype.co.uk) as they're cheap ;D (shop closes for summer break soon btw)

currently I'm following Nicole Small on youtube as her Cyanotype series goes on https://www.youtube.com/channel/UCXbIGe6luBekTIvnKBhYIow/videos (https://www.youtube.com/channel/UCXbIGe6luBekTIvnKBhYIow/videos)
I found out about her after she was a guest on that homemade camera podcast.

here's another one I did recently. gotta love plants on cyanotypes :)

Here are some of the sunprints I did years ago.
Some were done from laser transparency and the bridge was done directly from the negative.

Inkjet print onto OHP transparency film. That way you can add the borders easily.

These look fabulous jonas! I have not done cyanoytypes in a while. Maybe I should order up some chems? Also it just get too hot here to do it out in the sun. exposure times are too short.

Jonas, your leaf print reminded me of this triptych I did a while back. The center one is bleached with baking soda and toned with green tea.

glad to see your stuff everyone. I'm getting into toning (nothing great, just experimenting) and just recently I found this great resource with good examples:

That's really informative. I'm putting it into my Calibre Library.
