: I made some developer, then saw a bear!

Instead of re writing, I'll share the link to my blog, where there are photos and descriptions.
It was a good day!  8)  8)  8)

This is great, Becky.  Thanks for sharing.  Any day that includes a visit from a bear—respecting social distance, of course—is a good one.

Bear... nice bear... go say hello to the neighbors  ;D
We're lucky here as the only new resident we have is a groundhog...

That lichen recipe is quite surprising. I'm starting to think that anything but tap water will develop film (though straight from the Saint-Lawrence river would probably work just the same, except you'd get a skin infection as a free gift!)

Great article - would never have thought of lichen developer - and wonderful bear picture! :)
The most dangerous animals we get around here are ticks (the local ones have a high probability of FSME and lime disease and we now get the African ones too with all kinds of tropical fevers thanks to climate change). A real pain when you love taking landscape photographs. I am also a bit wary of wild boars, which we have a lot of around here in the forests.

Biting insects are a big problem here too. But the doctors are not all trained to recognize the symptoms and the health system doesn't take these things seriously as it doesn't affect the whole territory.

Nice job Becky!  I surprised the lichen reduced the pH that much.  Are you going to keep experimenting with it or is this a one time thing?  Could add some salt and try developing a little longer.

I've made this developer before but never documented it. I do plan on making more and experimenting more.
There's some catnip growing in the yard and some chokecherries and a ton of horehound behind the house that I also plan to make teas/ developers out of and see how they work.

the idea of using stuff out of the yard appeals to me even though instant coffee is still cheap.
The lichen water really smells nice if you like fresh green smelling things! A friend sent me a recipe to make a tincture out of it as it seems native people around the world knew of its medicinal properties.  I'm tempted to drink the lichen tea or at least take a sip, but just haven't had the nerve just yet.
I'll be sure to share my adventures.

Catnip developer... if you don't watch out with that one you could get hair balls on your film  ;D

Cool! (But be safe.)

My parents have a black bear that hides out under their back yard deck from time to time and it delights and scares the stuffing out of them.
