Looks like we're getting a new half frame from Pentax

Sure looks like that.
I'm really hoping it will be great as lens technology has progressed by leaps and bounds since the Yashica Samurai was released.

Well, I had expected something better from Pentax than a half frame P&S camera. They don't seem to have much faith in the younger generation if they don't think they will figure out how to rotate the camera 90 deg. to get a portrait format photo.

I think it sounds quite fun - a p&S with dial control and some manual features, economic film use, zone focus for quick shooting. I love Takeo's enthusiasm and his jaunty hat too! I wonder what the price will be ....  :)

That is always the big question...
When you consider how much I pay for my photo gear, it's most probably going to be outside of my ballpark.
But I feel that if they can sell it for around 200$ and that the quality is good, they're going to have a hard time keeping-up with the demand.

Sidetracking a bit, but still new camera news, the new Rollei 35AF that is being developed by MINT for Rollei. Full frame, 35mm f2.8 lens and metal body. Estimated retail 650-800 USD.

Look familiar?

Well... it is a Rollei 35. But the AF part is really intriguing.

Wow. It looks beautiful. I hope it has the same standard of lens quality as the original ones.

Or better with modern lens technology.

I'm mostly betting that it will blow the original out of the water on the contrast and resolution front.
Just with the new coatings and aspheric lenses that didn't exist back in the days, it should be an easy thing to do.
Where I question myself is on the character of the lens. Will it have a personality all of its own or will it be sterile like so many modern lenses?
