Ah, half-frame eh?

Half-frames are growing on me. I got a Canon Demi EE17 for cheap a while ago. It was a wreck. It looked like someone had tried to lever their way into it. The body was so bad I decided to respray it (after I'd panel beaten it roughly back into shape, replaced the broken glass and got the camera working) so now I've probably got the only black EE17 in existance. The only thing is it's not a rangefinder. Other than that, it's a really nice camera to use.

The other half-frame I got recently was a Pen F. It needed fixing but seems to be working now. Just waiting for some new covers to arrive for it.

Only problem I have with half-frames is how long it takes to use the film.

I bought one of those little canons too. It was great, but I sold it on for same reasons you mention Peter. Waiting for 72 frames to be used was a nightmare. That said, I'dove one of those little Pens withall the lenses etc. Not cheap, unless you're handy like Peter and restore one.

That Robot isn't a half-frame, exactly.  The negs are 24mm x 24mm, so you get 50 rapid-fire shots per roll.

Damn! What a glorious set! I used a Demi the other day, and was just amazed how bright the viewfinder was! As for waiting to use all the film, I find a spring-drive helps, as you can shoot a series as fast as you can click the shutter.

I love my Ricoh Auto Halfs:

Peter, if you ever feel like just taking some photographs of your hardware, and post them over in the <Articles> section, feel free! You've got some really nice kit there Sir. Skj.

I often feel these cameras are better suited to either long vacations where you don't want to carry a lot of stuff or for using 12 exposure rolls (bulk loading?)

I had my eye out for a Yashica Samurai a while ago... but they're so rare in the region that I pretty much gave up on it.

Yep, there's no viewfinder on them since they were made for hiding in briefcases.

Yup.  I thought it was a holder for a second roll of film until I started reading about them...

京セラ サムライ are reasonably common in Japan. Running from \1000 to about \5000:

I hadn't realized they made them in so many variations... I've seen only one in a shop when they first came out...

I know looks aren't by any means everything in a camera but that Yashica Samurai sure is one ugly camera! No offence intended owners out there.

For being ugly it sure is. But what attracted me to it is the particularities it has. The thing that struck me the most are the very thick film back and the fact that this camera runs the film vertically like a movie camera...

If you want the ultimate half-frame camera, it's available here. But you'll need to mortgage the house to buy it (or I would anyway).

How the hell do they come up with a price like that? $66,124 - they've just stuck their finger in the air!

Peter  - it does say best offer, maybe you ought to give them a try, start with 25 quid and see what they say.  ;)

That Robot is cute.  But I sure don't need any more temptation considering the last month has seen me get (I'm also embarrassed to say how many really...) 4 new cameras.  Sigh...  So:

Kodak Brownie Flash model
Ansco Anscoflex II
(those were the cheapies)

Mamiya 645 Super
Mamiya Super 23

Four! Yikes! I would be divorced if I did that. I do like the Anscoflex though - a really nice camera to use. The filters, and that bright, bright finder always amaze. Great color yours there too. The 645 I would prefer in Safety Yellow or Baby Blue:

... and I am still contemplating the 50mm available for the Universal. Nice set! See ya. Skj.

Yeah, it takes 620.  Mine came with one 620 spool in it and you can shape a 120 film spool to fit and then just feed the film onto the 620 take-up spool.  You could respool 120 film on a 620 spool for your feed spool if you wanted.

this is pretty cool. from 1951, the Mecaflex. takes 50 square shots on 35mm film, and has a waist level finder! says it was designed by the same guy that did the robot cameras.

It's kind of late. I'm lying in bed. I should be sleeping, but I pulled out my Nokia N800 to put in a bit of forum time as I haven't been here in a week or so. For some reason this thread has made me feel especially warm and happy...

Just a bunch of photography geeks hanging out and shooting the breeze about cranky old cameras, but  I loved reading it. What a fine bunch of people you all are. I hope I never take this place for granted.

Errr... as well as my Ricoh Marine Case, I picked this mint 75mm set up for an embarrassingly low price...
