Okay, I hope I'm not treading on any toes here but I was getting a bit itchy for a Postcard or two so, with Ed's blessing, I'd like to propose the 2014 FW's Postcard Exchange :)
Cribbing from Becky and Diane's previous posts, rules are as follows:
1) Sign up by July 31 if you want to play.
PM me your name and address with country and e-mail.
I need your e-mail address to contact you since the forum only allows two private messages an hour. If you don't send me your e-mail, it will take a LOT longer to get your list of names.
2) Names will be sorted the following week.
Since we have Filmwasters from around the globe, I'll sort and divide the collected names into manageable groups (about 12 per group) to keep the cost of printing and postage at a manageable level. I will regularly update this topic with numbers of players.
Next I'll make a list of the sorted names and addresses and send them to everyone that signed up. Lists will be with you by August 8.
3) Postcards should be sent out by September 1
Cards can be printed in the darkroom or with inkjet printers on any paper (6x4 or 5x7 inches)
The important thing is the negative used to make the print must be a film capture.
The subject matter is entirely up to you and it's not a competition either, so have fun with it!
You can send the same print to everyone on your list, or you can make different prints for each person, it's up to you.
Details about the image such as location, camera and film type written on the back with a short message are appreciated but not required.
Stamp, address and then sign the card so we know who it's from and drop it in the mail and then wait for amazing cards to arrive in your post box.
This is always a lot of fun, so don't miss out.
Once again the important dates to remember are:
July 31 = last day to sign up.
August 8 = names sorted into groups and sent to participants.
September 1 = deadline to send out cards.
Any questions just let me know.
So, what are you waiting for...!
Total signed up so far: 25
Last week to sign up.
-
Just to make sure I'm reading this correctly, each person will send 12 cards?
I have some old Polaroid post cards, I assume a Polaroid would be ok?
I just sent one of these Polaroid Post Cards to my wife while I was in Nevada, it took almost 3 weeks to get to our house in Bothell, Washington. It should only take a few days so I'm not sure but it may have been lost in the post office for a while.
Count me in, I'll PM my information.
-
Yep. I'm in. PM with my details will be sent.
-
And we're off, PMs received, thanks Brian and Paul :)
12 is an estimate based on numbers who have participated previously but basically yes, everyone sends a card to everyone else on their list. I'll wait to be corrected but I think last year there were 3 lists to cover the 40 or so people that signed up altogether. You only get one list unless you want to send to all.
Polaroid would be absolutely fine, as are paper negs.
-
I also assume that non-silver contact prints are acceptable. This might be over-complicating things, but what if I scan a 35mm neg and enlarge it enough to make a contact print with it? That still counts right? I am asking because then the 'print' is being made with a digital negative and not an original film negative, but in my mind the image is still analog.
Count me in either way. :)

So long as I can shoot film, scan it and have it printed however I want, I'm still in.....
-
Information sent! Was hoping for another postcard exchange! Thank you for doing this!
-
The last one was a lot of fun. It was great receiving everyone's postcards. Count me in!
-
sounds good! Last year I made three different images, but each was a bit different.
-
All signed up!
-
Jolly good fun!
-
I'm game!
-
I really enjoyed getting cards from allover last time so I'm in.

That's fine, it started life as a film-captured negative - it's filmwasted!
Keep 'em coming everyone.
-
Fantastic! I'm in.
-
I'm in - pm sent
thanks so much for doing this Harvey.
Leon.

As a newcomer to the site, I think this is a really cool idea (and is what made me register for the forums.) I think I've only gotten one postcard, ever, in my life, so this will be really exciting!

Hi Chad - welcome. The postcard exchange is a great way to see other work, and there is nothing like holding a print in your hand rather than looking on a screen is there!
-
....even if people like me send postcards printed by an online service from a scanned neg/print.
;) ;)
To the guys posing questions earlier, it's not important if the cards you send out aren't darkroom originals (or Polaroid original prints). As long as the originating image was shot on film/tin/glass etc. then the postcard itself can be printed however you like.
Shaun/Harvey: Thanks for doing this!
-
I'm in!
and again... thanks for sorting this!
-
Since I'm "without darkroom" for the foreseeable future, does anyone have a recommendation on a place to have postcards printed? I'd like something in the classic postcard style, not a glossy 4x6 or 5x7. I can do a google search all day long, but digging through the results to find people with actual experience with said printer is proving to be rather painstaking.
-
Stamps are expensive but what the heck.
I'm in for one more round!
Since I'm "without darkroom" for the foreseeable future, does anyone have a recommendation on a place to have postcards printed?
I have mine printed on Fuji Crystal Archive Mat by a large printing chain and I spray mount them on cardstock myself.
-
Ooohh it's going to be another good one. 17 confirmed addresses so far. Thanks all.

Where do you live? We're quite the international crew so answers will vary.
-
...almost forgot; I'm in too. Huzzah!
-
Oh my god! The great Ed's going to be part of the gig! ;D
Oh yeah!

Sorry, I didn't get a subscription to this thread so I missed the reply. I'm in Idaho, USA. I don't expect to get them printed locally and there are probably several online solutions, but if someone had experience with a printer, I'd like to hear about it.
-
I'm in, too. Maybe next year I can start printing my postcards in the darkroom. But not for this one, I'm afraid.

I get my postcard pictures printed at the local drugstore from digi files. They offer pretty good quality for the price.
I know Staples has a postcard printing service but their card stock is super flimsy and the quality ain't that great. So far, nothing beats a good photo paper glued to an index card.

I've had intermittent great success with Walmart online. They have a postcard printing option with surprising quality and reasonable price. My favorite part is that their monochrome printing isn't tinged purple. The trick is that either they charge you an arm and a leg for shipping or you can pick it up at a local store, and the last time I tried to use them their in-store pickup option was broken for at least a month.
I plan to try to use them again, but if I can't pick up in-store I'm just going to buy some Ilford postcard stock and hopefully surprise myself:

We're now up to 21 but there's room for more I'm sure.
-
Made some waxed paper negatives and am running exposure tests this afternoon. Can't wait to get this show on the road!
-
Many thanks for organising this one Harvey!
I`m in and looking forward to it ;)
For some reason it reminded me of the film Amélie and the gnome postcards ;D
-
Okay, okay, you guys wore me down! I thought long and hard and decided that I want to get in on the exchange this year.
Count me in!

;D
did you just cyanotype the back of your postcard?? haha that's wicked :D
-
I could not do that the previous year because the scrap paper I used had a bit too much texture. Not yet sure what i'll do this year...
-
did you just cyanotype the back of your postcard?? haha that's wicked :D
Yes, well I didn't bother trying to find watercolor paper postcards to print on, so my options were
1. hand draw the postcard on each print (I have bad handwriting).
2. print postcard stuff on regular paper and glue it to the back (no fun in that at all).
3. design a postcard, make a negative, wax it, print it on the back of each card (that's more like it!)
The nice thing was that I didn't have to worry too much about exposure times since I just wanted 'full' exposure for the white parts. I was pleasantly surprised at how clear the printing came out.
-
Well, cyanotypes were mainly used to make architectural prints for a long time.
-
Harvey - I've just PM'd all my details. Thanks for organising this!
Paul

Okay, we're at 23 participants now, one more and it's 2 lists of 12. If you wish to 'send to all' let me know.
With just over 4 weeks left to get your name down if you're still thinking about it don't wait too long. It's a great fun way of sharing our work and I have yet to find another way of getting original art on my doorstep for the price of a stamp :)

Cheers, just sent off my order for some top quality postcards should be with me in the next few days, i'm ready ;D

Postcard exchange is a great thing, sadly, I think I am going to miss it this time - I am almost sure I won't have the time to do the printing for the whole lot. (Among other things I will be re-doing my darkroom to accomodate a new enlarging beast, hopefully putting in some fixed safelights, ventilation et cetera... And it would be kinda difficult to enlarge a postcard from a 13x18 negative :)) )
But I could maybe make a couple of contact-cards, so if anyone fancies a "one-to-one" approach, drop me a PM and we can exchange addresses.
-
Short but essential Q from a first time postcard poster - can I stick Polaroids on postcards without disappointing anyone?
Have some nicely matured 667 I thought would make nice summer greetings :)
Best

It's not often you see the words Polaroid and disappoint in the same sentence here! :)
That would be absolutely fine Aksel, positively encouraged in some quarters I'm sure.

That's a shame Andrej but fully understand. Bear in mind though, if you make a couple of contact cards six times that's probably enough! ;)
-
I've received some polaroids in the past...
-
Super! Polaroids it is ;)
-
Just make sure they're well stuck to the card :)
-
Has anyone tried just slapping a stamp on one and using a Sharpie on the back of packfilm?
-
I don't think packfilm would survive the postal service. But Impossible film sure does.
-
Has anyone tried just slapping a stamp on one and using a Sharpie on the back of packfilm?
I sent one to my wife a few months ago from Eureka, Nevada to my home near Seattle. It took over 3 weeks to get there, usually mail takes 2 or 3 days to go that distance. I attached the photo to one of the old Polaroid Postcarders. The adhesive was dried up so I had to glue it on. I think if you just send the photo without attaching it to some kind of card it will be more prone to damage. like Francois said, they need to be well stuck to whatever card you are using. I used regular paste for paper and when I inspected it at home it seemed to be coming apart on the edges a little. I may use spray glue next time unless someone has a better suggestion.
-
3M spray glue's the best. Rubber cement might also be good. Drymount tissue should also work well... I know it does on lab prints.

I've never used Drymount tissue but the problem with contact cement or rubber cement is sometimes you see the texture through the print if it's not applied evenly enough.
-
Could also to be on the safe side post it in a transparent plastic envelope =)
Have some 3m spry mount but I think I would go with soft double sided tape, it´s really flexible and sticks like - ehhh - glue! ;)
-
Ive got my cards and ready to go

Just checking in to make sure I haven't missed an email on this. We haven't yet been given our lists have we?
-
Nope, I don't think we've missed anything. The initial post is now updated with a timeline.
-

Two weeks left to catch any of the undecided and then I'll do the lists. 2 lists of 12 based on numbers thus far with one person requesting both lists to send to all so we're in for another great one.
I'll keep the thread updated with timelines and activity.
Harvey

I've had 20 printed so not enough for both lists, unless I put the other list in a hat and pull out 8

Quite often a number of people will have spares and arrange additional exchanges so I'm sure they won't be hanging around.

I'm in, please
-
One week left to sign up, deadline Midnight (GMT) 31st July. We're now at 25 participants :)
-
25... that's an odd number.
That means we need another participant to even things out. Maybe Uncle Phil will join? ;)
-
I need to get some more printed
-
Okay Ladies and Gentlemen, one day left to sign up if you haven't already. With numbers and requests as they currently stand I can do 2 lists of 13 names which is great.
-
Mine arrived last week so I'm all ready to go! :D I'll be on vacation next week but will be able to mail them out the 2nd week of August.
-
Well, I've chosen the photo I'm going to use. I usually have the cards printed commercially but, this time, I'm just having 6x4 prints done and dry mounting them onto standard blank postcard bases.
Oh, and for the first time for me on a postcard exchange, it's a colour photo!! :o
-
And I still don't have the slightest idea about what I'll put on them!
-
And I still don't have the slightest idea about what I'll put on them!
Same for me :D
I think I have to get going this weekend.
-
Have had all mine sitting on my desk ready to post for two weeks! :P
-
Me too, just need addresses
-
Okay, names have been drawn into two lists courtesy of Mrs H. I will start sending lists out today and I will update this topic when all lists have been sent.
Thank you to all who have joined in.
-
All lists have now been sent out. You should have a list of 13 names, one of which will be your own so you know who you expect to receive cards from.
If you were expecting a list but haven't received one please let me know soonest.
All cards should be sent out by September 1st.
Thanks to all of you who signed up for this. We're off!
-
And I still don't have the slightest idea about what I'll put on them!
Same for me :D
I think I have to get going this weekend.
Same here. I have a couple of rolls to scan and another two to three to develop and scan before I start to panic. If I have one I can settle on this weekend I'll be ecstatic. :)
-
Many thanks for the list and initiative!
This kind of friendly thing makes filmwasters unique. Love it!
-
Mine are all done and ready to post on Monday. I'm afraid that they are machine prints as I have no darkroom (although I am in the lengthy process of attending to that deficit). But they came out of the back of my old Blad & are on TMX, so I hope that makes up for the commercial processing. 12 shots - 12 postcards. Just made it on a single roll! Not that it was planned, I just thought, why not?
-
I had to order mine from a commercial service as well - cafepress.com - but they came out pretty well, and the image is definitely a film one.
Got my list and my cards. I'm out of the country on vacation for a week, so I'll be sending mine out as soon as I get back!
So glad to be part of the exchange this year. This is such a creative bunch of people with such a variety of styles, so it's exciting to see what everyone comes up with.
-
Mine are 5.5"x8.5" taken with my little Rollei 35B on HP5
-
Got my email today (or yesterday) with my list of recipients. Nice!! Will be sending out one of the photos I take this week. I'm down in Cornwall again and wielding the Bronica S2A with instant film back. Expect something square and blurry.
:D :D

Just received my first postcard, many thanks zapsnaps!

24 postcards have just been dropped into the postbox! :D

Pretty excited for this, mine have been printed and are on their way to me to address and send.
-
Just received my first card - from Paul. It's a cracker of a photo. Any he's even gone to the trouble of having the postcards printed. Lovely job.
-
Cheers David, glad you enjoyed it. I had my full Fellowship panel of 20 images printed as postcards so virtually everyone gets a different image. 8)
Paul
-
Thanks Paul just received your wonderful pinhole post card, now I feel guilty because your not on my list
-
Wow was not expecting a card so early into the month and what a card it was from Pauls' LRPS panel.
Many thanks Paul :D, I'll have to get up in the loft this weekend while the weather isn't so hot and get printing.
-
Hi Paul
What a cool idea to get the Fellowship panel printed as postcards. Not only does it make a lasting memento for you, but it will also widen non-FW folks' experience & appreciation of what pinhole can do. Often dismissed as a 'school demo' technique by non-Believers, your work shows the quality and artistic integrity which can be achieved with skill, patience and really sharp printing skills.
-
Paul's card has shown me how to set mine out better for next time
-
Thanks Paul just received your wonderful pinhole post card, now I feel guilty because your not on my list
No worries, I had a few spare so thought I'd share the love... :)
-
Fabulous card from Paul Mitchell and a very interesting (and lovely) one from Zapsnaps :o
Mine are being printed tomorrow and I'm hoping to get them posted at the weekend.
-
Mine will be posted tonight, they are on the way some should get them tomorrow
-
Well that was fast!
I just got Paul Mitchell's beautiful pinhole shot.
I really have to start looking through my stuff for something nice...
-
Well that was fast!
Blimey that's less than 3 days from UK to Canada! Glad you like it Francois
-
Mine should be there Monday going by Pauls
-

I'm really surprised to see how fast it went. Just as a comparison, the lens I recently got took 5 days to make it 400km...
-
Sent mine out today and was rewarded by finding my first two arrivals in my mailbox when I arrived home. Paul's wonderful pinhole shot and Zapsnaps' beautiful image. Both great. Thanks guys! I can't wait to see all the rest.
-
I'm going to mount all I receive on one board and have it framed and hang it in my hall
-
I got to say a massive thanks to Gary. I received his big postcard today when I got home from work, it's a lovely image from the dales. I have to say the standard of the two cards I have received to date has set the bar so high, I'm wondering what yet to come.
-

Thankyou for your kind words but I need to improve for next time
-
Got the first two postcards from Paul Mitchell and David Salisbury in the mail today, Unfortunatly the postal service made a mark on Paul's pinhole postcard. Beautiful work from both gentlemen!
-
I also got Paul's great pinhole image. Thank you! And today I sent out mine.
-
Got a very beautiful and delicate still-life from Shaun Harvey today. Mostly monochrome with just a hint of colour and multiple exposures to hint at movement. One of the finest photos I've seen. Just gorgeous. Thank you Shaun.
-
David S.'s beautiful postcard made it all the way to the Left Coast of the US today. Thanks David. Mine will go in the post on Monday.
-
I came back from vacation yesterday to find a lovely print from zapsnaps. Thank you!
I'm addressing my postcards today and will drop them in the mail tomorrow.
-
I will be receiving my postcards from the printer today and will be sending them out to both lists this week. I didn't originally intend to send to both lists, so if I'm not on your list, expect one from me anyways.
-
Lovely postcards arrived today!
I must get busy!!!!
8)
-
Harvey's subtle, pretty shot arrived today!
-
Three cards today! ;D I think this is one of the coolest exchanges I have ever participated in.
Thanks to Paul M., Adam Doe, and Shaun Harvey. Wonderful cards all.
James
-
Thanks to Urban for his lovely berries postcard
-
I just put mine in the mail this morning. I started having second thoughts after receiving my first one from Paul yesterday, amazing photo and very well done card. Mine will definitely not measure up to that but I hope everyone enjoys them. They are all one of a kind original Polaroids.

I know what you mean! I got home last night and found three cards from Adam, Paul, and Shaun. Started feeling inadequate :o I do like the image I chose but wish I could have done them myself. The cards themselves are a bit flimsier than I would have liked, and I will explore better ways of printing (if I can't do them myself) for next year.
But none of that stopped the excitement of dropping all of mine in the mail today! It's like Christmas - I get just as excited about giving the gifts as I do about getting them ;D And I hope y'all like stamps, because I insisted on actual stamps instead of the machine, so you will have a collection of them on your cards!
-
I just got Gary's beautiful poetry in my mailbox this morning. Nice :)
-
Just received my first postcard, David Salisbury (zapsnaps)!
I said to my wife, "I wonder why he put it in an envelope? [rips paper] Oh!" :)
-
I received two yesterday and one today. I also made the trip to the post office today to send mine out, so everyone on both lists will be receiving a postcard from me. I'm glad I went to the post office instead of buying postage for what I estimated, I would have paid almost double! :o

I know what you mean that you know what he means! (or something like that) I had mine printed by an outside company for this and the previous exchanges and though they did a pretty good job I am determined to print them myself for the next postcard exchange, dammit. Ive ordered some Ilford Postcard paper in anticipation of the 2015 exchange.

This is exactly why I wanted to be part of this, and why I'll surely sign up next year, too. Seeing everyone's creativity and the quality of work inspires me, and it also motivates me to up my game, to push myself a little more to experiment or learn something new so that I'll have something better to offer in return.
-
I got 3 postcards already from David, Paul and Shaun. :) I love the diversity of the work and each card is standing out in its own way.
Put mine in the mail the day before yesterday. Unfortunately I still have no darkroom, so I had to use a comercial print service as well.
-
What I find interesting about the recent comments is that after I outed myself as having no darkroom and would therefore be sending commercial prints, I noticed so many other FWs say that they have no darkroom either. Thank guys & gals - I now feel less darkroom-deprived. Reading other threads, especially the weekend ones, I thought that I was some sort of imposter on here for dropping my 120 in the post rather than my morning coffee. Having said that, as soon as the darkroom is set up, I'm going to try paper in coffee. The prints I've seen on here look wonderful.
-
Just received two superb cards from Harvey & Peter, cheers guys!

David, I haven't had a darkroom since leaving Stockport in 1988. And, yes I miss not having one. Hell, come to think of it, I don't even develop my own negatives at the moment. My process is a real hybrid of film exposure and scanning - then processing the TIFF or JPEG in Lightroom4. There are times when I seriously question whether there's enough "film" involvement in what I do to remain part of the FW fraternity.

Wonderful card from Paul M. Received on Monday the 11th. Seems mail is getting faster.Shipped a package to Devon on the 31st of July and arrived the 8th of August.

-
Just received two superb cards from Manuel and Adam.
-
I've just come home to a lovely postcard from Shaun
-
Went away for a couple of days came home today found two lovely postcard from Manuel and Shaun in the mail, very professionally done guys!
-
Received Jharr's awesome card today. After reading, on the back, the description of the processes involved I can rest assured that he doesn't suffer from laziness.
-
... I can rest assured that he doesn't suffer from laziness.
Thanks Adam. My wife might disagree as not a single chore got done for the two weekends I spent printing. :P
-
Bloody hell. I got an absolutely BE-YOU-TIFUL postcard through the door last night from Harvey (Shawn). It's utterly glorious and ticks all of my boxes...who'd have thunk it from a still life photo of some tulips? Fantastic job, sir!
-
I just got a nice card from Urban with one the back what could be a great start for a novel ;) (nudge nudge)
-
Good Lord, glad the tulips have found favour and I made the right choice. Thanks very much.
Big thanks to Paul M, Manuel, Adam, Peter S, and David (Zapsnaps) for your cards, all superb, all different approaches and styles and all the reasons why I wanted another exchange. It's the ultimate camera club.
-
Woot! Two more from jharr and chad! Thank you! Gorgeous prints, both of them. Love the textures.
-
I've been away, so am behind schedule. And now my PC died on me, disk crashed and all. Will take a while before I can get mine printed. :(
-
Yesterday must have been polaroid day as I received Leonore's wonderful work and Chad's great shot. Terrific postcards, both.
-
I'm glad mine started reaching their destinations, I was worried that the post office lied to me about the postage required. :D
I was going for the classic postcard look/feel and feel pretty good about it, but I'm thinking I should have used the Neopan version that I hadn't developed at the time I ordered. Also, when I ordered, I didn't bother to check their dimensions for what they call oversized, so I apologize in advance for the size.
-
Got cards from Leonore and Chad. Wonderfully different polaroids!
-
Todays mail brought Peter's terrific Olympus Trip work.
-
I'm glad mine are reaching people too :)
I was excited to check the mail today, which sadly I haven't felt in who knows how many years. I'm old enough to remember when letters were still common and there's still a little dusty part of my brain that thinks, "Maybe there will be a letter!" Alas, these days it's only bills and junk mail.
But not today! ;D Two more cards, a great street shot from Peter and a lovely pinhole from Manuel! Woot!
That brings the total up to 8 so far. I'm starting to think of ways to display them all in a nice creative way.
-
Just a quick thanks to James and Leonore for two superb cards - loving the fact all these cards are so different from each other!
Paul
-
Managed to salvage a scan and have it sent for printing. So hopefully I can send out mine in a week´s time.
I have so for got cards from Paul, Gary, Urban and Shaun. All very different, and I cherish them very much. Thank you.
-
Just received Chad's fabulous FP 3000B of the Boise Depot - it looks like a movie still. I love it
-
Thanks! Glad to see they're making it across the pond.
Edit: the sole inhabitant of my mailbox today was a beautiful postcard from Manuel!
-
I got a real beauty from Manuel today. Just outstanding! Thanks!!
-

Yeah, I must agree. Manuel's shot arrived here as well today and outstanding it is!
-
Thanks guys!
Glad my postcards are making it to the recipients :)
-
Received a fab one from Paul (LD) this morning... mmm might ask if he wants to do a print swap on this one!
Paul
-
I just got Harvey's beautiful tulip!
I just love the almost B&W look!
-
Thanks to Chad, I have the best GS, the 1100 bit tricked up with Touratech bits and chipped for more power also a Yamaha FZS1000 Fazer, I think its the FZ1 in the US
-
Sadly, I had to sell my dual sport (an '08 KLR), but I do have visitation rights to it, per the new owner. I've pondered buying it back from her since she's about to have a baby and probably won't be riding it. Sure wish I could own a nice BMW. ;)
-
so far 8 postcards have made it to my mailbox
Paul's pinhole
David's figurative work
Shaun's tulips
Manual's pinhole
Leonore instant negative recovery college
Chad's Boise depot
James's Cyanotype
Adam's Storefront Joker
Like said before it's so nice to see what other peoples interests in subjects to photograph is.
When Christmas arrives my mailbox overflows with Christmas cards whom get chucked out not even a week later but this is so different this is stuff you want to keep, so that's exactly what I'm gonna do. Normally postcards annoy me because they are so stereotypical, they try to force an emotion on you but this is so spontaneously and that is what I think makes it so beautiful, thank all of you for your hard work, I'm glad to have been a part of this postcard exchange.
-
Was told I received a number of cards. Only sent cards local to the states so far. Didnt have enough international postage, it seems. Printed digital on rubbish dyesub printer, no fancy cyanotype from me this year.
I perfer my Honda CN250 (Helix, Fusion, Spazio) maxi scoot! I bought it twice already (1986, 2004). I still have my old 60's Honda Dream CB450; 444cc! Yes four's are a bad number in Japan:)
-
Came home to a wonder(full) mailbox last night! Big thank you to all senders!
Just finished my masters so that have taken a bit of my focus ;) Will be sending out my postcards early next week.
Filmwasters rocks!

-
Over the last few days I havew received Harveys fantastic tulipstill life, and Chad's wonderful Polathat looks like a Bonny and Clyde film setup. Thanks guys so much Mine will be posted over the next couple of days.
-
A wonderful bleached & toned cyanotype arrived yesterday from James - thank you very much - it's a work of art.
-
Six postcards over the weekend and one more in the last week, bringing my total up to eight so far!
Fantastic postcards from Shaun, Adam, Paul, Leonore, James, Chad, and Manuel!
Leonore, I have a stockpile of packfilm negatives waiting for a rainy day. :)
-
Paul's excellent postcard of Aldeburgh arrived today! The color's are terrific Paul, you' definitely achieved your goal as stated on the back of the card.
-
Just got back from town with Black+White photography and 2 rolls of Agfa Vista from poundland and now I'm enjoying Irvin's great postcard with a cup of coffee
-
Well, I've just had a look through the stack of cards I have on my desk and they are as stunning as they are diverse:
- Leonore's wonderful Fujiroid collage of a tree
- jharr's dreamy waxed-paper and tinted abstract
- Adam's lovely and colourful joker print
- Chad's fantastic dust-bowl period study of Boise
- Manuel's glorious and moody stone circle
- Shaun's stunning multiple exposure of Tulips in a glass vase
- (Dave's) Zapsnap's gorgeous figure study
- Paul Mitchell's just perfect pinhole study of Southwold
Thank you, one and all.
-
Ive sent off for more cards to send to everyone but its different to the first lot
-
Got a very nice "retro seaside" card from Paul on Friday, and a lovely print from Peter in the Netherlands today that makes me wish I had a darkroom right now.
-
Since it's better late than never, I just want to say mine are finally handed to the Postal service.
-
Paul's seaside card arrived. my wife said it reminded her of when her dad and aunts and uncles would set up the projector and show slides of vacations. It is a very nostalgic photo. Also Peter's wonderful "sad teddy" print got here today. Maybe not "sad", but just "waiting". I guess since everyone is getting different prints, no one will know what I'm talking about. Will there be a thread where everyone can put scans of the card(s) they sent so that everyone can enjoy the ones they didn't receive?
-
Whew!
After fretting about what card to make, I finally have one I'm happy with....
Now to address them all and get them sent by the September 1 deadline!
Thanks again Harvey for doing this, you rock dude, and thanks to everyone who has sent such amazing cards!
I always try to guess who the sender is without flipping it over and have been delightfully surprised so far!
Becky...addressing furiously. :-)

-
Addressed mine during lunch and sent them on their way on my way home. :)
-
I'm glad the "retro seaside postcard" seems to have been well-received. I remember spending quite a while trying to think of something worthy to shoot and then it dawned on me that this was a postcard swap and that I don't live that far away from a pretty traditional / kitsch bit of the English seaside.
As I hadn't really tried out Ektar much previously, I gave that a go and tried to get the end result as near possible to the sort of cards that used to proliferate in sea-front gift shops when I was a youngster.
A really enjoyable one to shoot and I must admit I've loved all of the cards I've received.
-
I liked Paul's card so much that I'm doing a print swap with him... reminded me of a Martin Parr.
Received another beaut from Chad today... just a pity that the US Postal Service decided to frank it on both sides!
Paul

To paraphrase a recent American president ... it is a done deal. Just in time, but the postcards are on their way. Thank you all for the postcards that found their way to Maarssen. It was jolly good fun!!

This is getting to be quite a collection :)
-
Got 2 more exceptional cards - Diane's pinhole and Jack's Park Ranger :)
-
Thank you Diane, Marcel, Damion and Francois. Lovely stuff. No need to worry Marcel, your lith looks fabulous. Good to see more pinholes, appreciate Diane's dedication in first building a camera and then using it, been there too. And Damion's pinhole selfie with a pinhole camera, also something I've tried my hand at with lately. And thanks Francois, indeed the back roads are where untold beauty resides.
-
Gary's quite serious looking Hounds showed up today! Can hounds look any way but serious? Really like the picture.
-
Today was a literal postcard bonanza!
Diane's mannequin, Eirik's lake side pinhole and Marcel's Lithprint...
I'm going to need to start putting them all in sleeves pretty soon!
-
I have had a computer problem over the last week so I haven't been able to post when the cards came in but they are all adorn the living rooom mantlepiece, so a big thanks to
Damion for his on street pinhole,
Becky for the braving being savaged by a wild cat,
Elrik beautifully tranquil pinhole,
Bryan's fantastic giant water truck Polaroid,
Diane for the brilliant pinhole
and Francois intriquing backstreets shot.
You guy are so wonderfully imaginative!
-
Marcel's great lith print came yesterday
-
I got a lovely card from Leonore today, thankyou

I was graced with the hounds on Friday, thanks Gary!

And in the suburbia of Oslo on Saturday.
Also, a real nice pinhole from Diane arrived, together with a very timeless and well told story from Crater Lake by Jack
Thank you guys!
-
Superb 'Crater Lake' card from Jack and equally good FP-100 print from Ansel - cheers!
-
And an awesome instant print from Aksel came last night. Thank you!! ;D
I think I'm going to put together a display of some sort this weekend and try to get a picture of it to share. I'd love to see some pictures of the cards the other "team" sent/received, too.
In the meantime, here's the image that was on the cards I sent out:

Fujifilm 100C negative recovery collage, Polaroid Land Camera 100.
-
I was in the same group as Leonore. Mine were all the same image, but the printing/toning process made each one unique-ish.
-
A very cool Polaroid seashore photo on FP-100C arrived from Aksel. I love how the colors wind up when you give this film the right amount of light.
-
Just come back from a business trip to Aksel's wonderfully dark and atmospheric Fuji instant. It's macabre, intense and really rather powerful. Well done.
-
Last week the mailman dropped the images of Eirik, Becky and Damian on my doormat. The pleasure of picking up a postcard reminds me a little of darkroom work .... it is always a surprise. Wonderful, just wonderful.
-
Just got TK's biker on my doorstep.
Now, there's only two left to come ;)
-
I'm on holiday at the moment so should return to some on my hall floor
-
Came home to Tony's TLR shot whilst on the bike :o
-
was a 250cc scooter so CVT, no gear shifts, so.. extra hand? Camera was also bar mounted.
-

I thought you were on the back riding pillion
-
Thank you Becky, like the big cat sloshed in Caffenol.
That makes 12 cards in my mailbox, but I only got 10 to send to. I have a few left, if anyone is interested.
-
Thank you Becky, like the big cat sloshed in Caffenol.
The cat was sloshed in Caffenol? Surely there are rules against that??
-
I think you should have photographed the process! ;)
-
due to laziness, and a need to clean up my workspace. I did also sent older less than perfect cyanotypes... but they are bigger than the average card. So I have cut them up! ;D Some received portion of photos! Gotta put them together like a puzzle! 8)
-
Apologies to all. I've received some wonderful cards and I haven't returned the compliment. I haven't forgotten, I will get them out soon.
Please feel free to throw soft fruit at me.
-
Sorry but the fruit season is over around here. ;)
I could find pumpkins and turnips but it wouldn't be a good idea since we want to keep our own Leon for a long time :)
-
I dunno, around here we're still getting tomatoes. They were kind of late this year. ;)
In the meantime, here's what I did with the postcards I got this year.
(I tried to get a picture of this with the Instax but it was either way too dark or too blown from the flash, and I didn't want to blow through an entire pack just to get this shot, so I had to settle for a d****** snap :P )
(There's no glass - it's just an extra frame I had that I put up around the collage.)
-
That looks so cool!
-
That looks so cool!
Thanks! I was really pleased that I had a frame the exact size I needed and it worked out really well.
-
What size frame is it? I like this idea and may borrow from it.

The inside of the frame measures roughly 19x13 inches.

I got a mutilated card returned from the postmaster. So if anybody is missing a card from me, let me know I will resend.

If we cannot be enrolled in this round maybe is time to start a new one ?
Maybe make it permanent on monthly bases ?
-
based my participation past few exchanges, there is at least one exchange a year, sometimes the next one is a bit sooner like 7-8 months.

So, what about my proposal ?
Maybe we should create a "Print Swap Club" ? That would be cool.

Paul Mitchell and I exchanged a couple of prints between ourselves outside of anything "official" on the website, so that is one option. If it's going to be something like a "club" run via the website, it's probably best to get it okayed from the mods first.

Or Timor and I can exchange postcards sooner than 7-8 months from now?

I hope, that mods will notice this idea and make comment on that. I don't know, what would be the possibilities for such an initiative. Maybe we should start a new thread about it to not to mess up topic here ?

What a couple of FW members get up to outside the confines of the FW website is no-one's concern but those members. A separate thread sounds like a good idea but, as with collaborations, postcard exchanges and anything else done with the Filmwasters tag attached, it seems sensible to just check with Leon, Ed, Damion, etc to see they're happy to go with it.
I have no more say in the matter than anyone else. these are purely suggestions of what I think would be the courteous thing to do in the circumstances.
