Now that the DIY Recesky is constructed, I was wondering if anyone has any real idea if one can truly focus the thing.

One can! Here's proof.

The viewing screen isn't the brightest in the world but you can more or less see when your in focus.

I haven't used mine yet but it seems that a loup might help if you're bothered to carry one while shooting.
