... But I can't tell you any more. I'm sworn to secrecy.
(this is my poor attempt at an IP/LOMO type hypevertisement)
-
Prices reduced by 30% ?
-
Oohh you're such a tease! :D
-
new range of film?
or possibly . . . . colour?
-
8x10 Harman Titan Pinhole Camera.
-
You are a cruel cruel man Leon!
Great, now I'll go crazy (a very short trip) trying to guess what Ilford is up to.
-
You mean Ilford will release a new version of the Sporti?
-
I've read something about the Harman Direct Positive Emulsion on a clear base.
-
Instant? I'd love to use the Harman Titan Pinhole with instant film.
-
I'm with gothamtomato :) When will we know what this is? For how long are you sworn to secrecy? Can we play 20 questions?
-
Is something leaving (exiting)?
-
That was not nice.
;)
-
It's not a new product. Sorry to disappoint.
-
Ilford are buying Kodak ;D
-
maybe I've over-egged the hyping-up of the promotional nature of the hypevertisement?
It's probably only good news for me, but ... we'll see :)
-
It's probably only good news for me, but ... we'll see :)
They're naming a film after you!... PanLeon has quite a nice ring to it...
-
Leon is taking over the position as "Head of New Product Development" !!!!!!
-
Harman Titans in pink and lime green.
-
Re-branded sheet film / photographic paper boxes with even more Leon Taylor art work.....??
-
It's not a new product. Sorry to disappoint.
In that case, it could only mean one thing: another one of Leon's pictures will be on a box of paper...
strangely disappointing isn't it ;)
-

it't not that either ......
-
Right then......to summarise:
- Not a new product (but could be an enhanced existing or resurrected old one..?)
- Not a rebrand of the company
- Not Leon getting more photos onto Ilford merchandise
It's (probably) only good new for Leon, so what could it be....?
- Making an existing product in 5x4 format?
- Making the 5x4 format products into a quick load option?
- Leon to get to test the new focal length Harman Titan fronts?
- Leon to be the new "face" of Ilford / Harman (think Kate Moss and Rimmel, Keira Knightley and Chanel........then again, dont... :o)
Anyone else go any bright (or dim) ideas???
-
They've redesigned the plastic bottle tops so wees can open them? ???
-
None of the above.....
-
Ilford stamps that you collect in order to get a free mug?
-
They've made you CEO or Director of paper clips?
-
An official Shop Ilford website?
-
Ilford must be changing the route the delivery truck makes from the factory to go right past leons place.
-
Ilford must be changing the route the delivery truck makes from the factory to go right past leons place.
Now that would be a detour - Mobberley to Kent......!! :o
-
An official Shop Ilford website?
They already have one of those: www.harmanexpress.com (http://www.harmanexpress.com) ;)
Nope, no one is close yet.
I won't be able to spill the beans until an official announcement anyway, so maybe one of those guesses is correct, and I'm lying through my teeth.
-
Illford decided to use mint, cinnamon and licorice flavored band strips on 120 roll film? ;D
-
Leon
Are you able to say when an official announcement may be made?
I will decline to join in the guessing game!
Mike
-
Illford decided to use mint, cinnamon and licorice flavored band strips on 120 roll film? ;D
I'd vote for this one ... though maybe they're going eco-friendly with a return to wooden spools.
-

Or better yet, bamboo spools. And backing paper made of Japanese awashi paper.
My best guess is it's going to be a price drop on some products...
But somehow the childish side of my brain keeps thinking about some type of mascot like the Kodak Kolorkins
(http://i.ebayimg.com/t/KODAK-KOLORKINS-PLUSH-STUFFED-ANIMALS-DOLLS-LOT-7-/00/s/ODY2WDEyODA=/$(KGrHqVHJ!sE7yElVvYoBPGVpWktSw~~60_57.JPG)
-
bamboo spools would be REALLY cool
-
a price drop .... I wish! Nope nothing so beneficial I'm afraid. At least, not that I know of.
-
Strawberry-scented fixer.
-
They're going to start using gelatin from rendered down politicians and bankers... we can dream can't we... ;D
-
Could it be that Harman will proceed to certain acquisitions in the corporate world?
-
harman is releasing a 35mm pinhole?
-
Leon, are you the new face of Ilfotec?
-
harman is releasing a 35mm pinhole?
As silly as it seems, it could be a lot of fun. :)
I think it's Harfordak Tri+.
-
Instant? I'd love to use the Harman Titan Pinhole with instant film.
it would be cool if they had a finger in the game with TIPs new pinhole camera. though that wouldn't make this TIP/LOMO like hype as fun ;)
Illford decided to use mint, cinnamon and licorice flavored band strips on 120 roll film? ;D
I long for the day~ :D

I think it's Harfordak Tri+.
That last bit could be interesting! Though I wonder how that would mesh with their productline as it looks today.
oh! are they starting to roll out 110 film? ;D
-
a 35mm pinhole would be fun, but I think the mint flavored lick strips would be even more funner! ::)
Bamboo spools would be awesome...and Francois, are those Kodak Kolorkins yours???? Those things are cool! 8)
-
One more guess: 8x10 TiTAN with freshly minted Ilford New55! That way Leon *and* Ed can lose their minds. :D
-
Leon to head all things legal at Harman? ???
-
I lied.
Two more possibilities: the LOMO LC-M Monochrom, and one for just us Americans of a certain vintage: Ilfomat!
(bonus points to Becky if she can find us the remnants of an authentic Fotomat hut)
-
i found a flickr stream of them....doesn't count I know, but I'll dig into this and find one somewhere.. :)
http://www.flickr.com/photos/tags/fotomat/ (http://www.flickr.com/photos/tags/fotomat/)
-
Wow! This must be secret as he hasn't even told me whassup.....and he usually does.
OK, my 2 pennies/cents-worth is that I'm rising above this blatant, somewhat shallow, headline-grabbing attempt at marketing spin and am not hazarding any guesses...at all. I'm also praying for Leon's sake that it's big news or there will be a lot of disappointed FWers for him to placate.
;) :D
-
Well, I too am a bit on the edge of my seat simply waiting for the big announcement.
-
is there a countdown . . .
how long is left before we find out ?
-
An iPhone app?
-
I also want to know some sort of countdown!
-
An iPhone app?
You mean like iFP4, iHP5, iXP2, iPQ Universal, iIlfotec, iRapid Fixer, iSFX, ;D ;D ;D
-
an Ilphone?
-
Perhaps he meant there is something exciting going in Ilford, the town in far east London. And of course there are many possible events that this could be referring to. I understand for instance that "Playing Rapunzel" are at the Redbridge Green Fair Live Music Club on Ilford High Road tomorrow night, performing stories and myths in folk song. Only £4 entry too!
-
for all those looking for a countdown - here it is:
-
is this 36 minutes, days, weeks, months, years???? :P
-
Oh, I get it!
And the next one will most likely be 35. or 100011 :P
-
If it's in days, day 1 is 29 November and, therefore, 30 November would be the day "it" (whatever "it" might be) would be due to happen.
Anyone got any bright ideas whether 30 November
has any photographic / Ilford / Harman connections?
36 could, of course, have something to do with the number of shots on a standard roll of 35mm film (unless you buy a 24 or 12 roll, of course...... ;D )
-
30th November? that's buy nothing day!
-
Now I get it. Ilford will be introducing a new 36mm film, giving us all 2.857142857142857% more image per negative.
-
117
-
Is it this?:
(The 8x10 Harman Titan Pinhole, which I just saw at Photo Expo)
-
OK, lets go
4x9=36
9x(4+9)=117
So tomorrow should be
13x(9+13)=286
And my guess is the color will be blue...
What could it all mean :-\
Not a new product. Not a new price list. Not a new rep...
-
i was wondering about the colour too . . . .
well at least we have a countdown :-\
-
And I was thinking RGB color coding. But maybe I'm just working too much :)
-
Is it this?:
(The 8x10 Harman Titan Pinhole, which I just saw at Photo Expo)
Nope - that's old news :)

-
hm... this feeling. maybe this is how others feel about TIP's advertising? ;)
this is not a guess but I've been thinking lately that it would be cool if they felt like they could release some new film. or updates on the old ones. how about FP5 and HP6?
how long ago was it they changed numbers last time?

Ilford switches back to their old logo?
-
A = πr2
-
Round and round it goes. Where it stops, nobody knows!
-
Ilford color film? We've seen it before, haven't we?
-
Ilford color film? We've seen it before, haven't we?
Although Kodachrome it was not, I quite liked the Ilford colour slide film back in the 80's. Wouldn't a new colour film count as a new product? I still haven't worked out what the weird number sequence Leon posted is all about.....
-
I still haven't worked out what the weird number sequence Leon posted is all about.....
Is that supposed to be Pi times r squared? Would be OK if we knew the value of r.
-
I'm starting to think that the sequence doesn't really make any sense...
-
So we have:
I think it's a pony!
-
I doubt it

A new exposure computer made out of plastic for the pinhole?
Since it already exists in the box, it's not a "new" thing...

Hey, I know how important feet are to the itinerant photographer, but seriously, socks that reduce foot odour?
-
Yep! you've read right!
These have been around for years but are coming to the general public.
But somehow, I don't think sensitizing old socks would give good results... besides, they would stretch in the camera :P
-
Even leaving aside the socks it's good to see sales and profits up.
If non-smelly socks help keep HP5+ going, then that's good news for everyone!

One short step from Bromide to Bromhidrosis!! :o

Tenty-Eleven
-
I think you have krazy glue on your w :)
-
There's no W in tenty
It's what comes between 9 and 20, clearly.
-
I'm still not joining in.
Right, I'm off to squash some spammers.
-
OK, 408 potential spammers sent on their way...Any "Ilfo Watch" developments while I was away?
-
nope nada....
-
This is starting to feel like watching glue set.
You know something interesting is going to come at some point. It's just that the activity is getting to be sooooo slow.
I can guess something's going to happen in five to fifteen days...
I just hope it's not some end of the world thing ;D
-
.......almost beyond caring ???
-
A=πr2
That is if my schoolboy maths is correct the formula for the area of a circle. Are they bringing out an HP5 disk film? :)
-
OK, so in the absence of any real data I'm going with my gut and starting a rumour....Harman Tech is about to be bought by the Lomographic Society. Nice!
-

UGH! Bite your tongue!
-
What I'm getting is an announcement about something circular on the 14th November?
-
is it a product to be realesed 20120401?
-
Leon said it wasn't a new product. But when I hinted at a corporate acquisition, he's been more than quiet...
So, my guess is that they're going to buy some company with a round logo that recently ceased production of something...
From memory, Foma recently closed down...
-

that is like fitting wheels to a tomato !
-
I've heard about this experiment too :)
Watching it is like during the early days of the internet when somebody in Toronto pointed a webcam at a restaurant called Stan's Souvlaki. I've watched it for hours on dialup and never saw anyone go in!
-
I'm sorry to all. I truly thought I'd be able to spill the beans by now, but there has been a hold up. And, subsequently, this thread has become a force unto itself and I can only think it's all going to be a massive anticlimax
-
No worries Leon!
It's always fun to have something new come down the pipe, and the guessing has certainly been interesting to read about here.
We will be no less excited when the ball finally drops. :)

NO, Francois, foma is still running - I think you meant EFKE in Croatia.
-
efke not Foma, foma actually updated their website! Foma is now producing instant x-ray dental film! ;D

Yeah, you're right, it was Efke...
I'm sorry to all. I truly thought I'd be able to spill the beans by now, but there has been a hold up.
Hands up! Put 'em where I can see 'em! :P :-\
-
Leon,
I believe it's spelled 'weak'
-
Aha! I came across this thread on APUG this evening about Ilford producing some youtube videos about pinhole photography for schools:
http://www.apug.org/forums/forum162/111995-some-feedback-ilford.html (http://www.apug.org/forums/forum162/111995-some-feedback-ilford.html)
Sooo....you've been busy making vids with Ilford?
-
they're going to make 4x5 peel apart instant film??? oh god i miss the fuji stuff already... :(
-
]Sooo....you've been busy making vids with Ilford?
Nope.
-
From what I've heard Ilford plans the following:
1. Release of the Harman Titan Pinhole 8x10
2. Release of two disposable cameras, filled with either HP5+ or XP2+.
3. Release of some more new products in 2013
4. Ilfochrome will stay in production, but it will no longer be available for home-users.
-
From what I've heard Ilford plans the following:
4. Ilfochrome will stay in production, but it will no longer be available for home-users.
Ilfochrome is made in Switzerland by Paradigm Global Partners LLP and has nothing to do with the Harman technology which makes all the wonderful mono materials etc under the Ilford brand from NW England.
-
Woody was chosen as the new Ilford mascot?
-
I reckon Leon has won the company just like in Charlie and the Chocolate factory?
-
A = πr2
Mulling over your circle hint and the warning of an anti-climax leads me to only one possible conclusion ... Ilford will start shipping a plastic exposure meter with the Titan instead of the rubbish paper one?
-
Or their 120 will be shipped in nice plastic containers like Rollei does...
-
Or where Z is the radius and the equals sign can't be found ...
Pi ZZ A
Mmm.
-
Simple fixer recycling service?
Round and round it goes...
-
wow this is getting sooo exciting, I don't know about you guys but I'm off to start queuing.... trying to stuff a one man tent and sleeping back into my lowepro as we speak
-
@Francois - little 120 tubes actually *would* be exciting. I have about half a dozen and they are invaluable.
-
so how we doin?
-
Huh! What!
You just woke me up... I fell asleep after, huh, I can't remember.
I guess that's all that's been going on so far... or maybe I snoozed through the big news ???
Oh wait... I think Leon said it was a no go.
-
you mean there isnt anything exciting going on at ilford!? boo-urns.
-
Without giving away too much ... Here are some selected excerpts from a recent communication I had with the big mono coating machine in the north:
Progress is a bit slow
we are now re-visiting some of the work already done which will cause further delay
our dead-lines appear to keep moving back
News will come forth when it is forthcoming :-)
-
And it's NOT a new product? Sounds like they are prototyping something.
-
It's a book!
-
Ilford sportswear? Leon does talk about a coat-ing machine ;)
-
Hmm... slow progress... what's been done by now is total crap.... deadlines... what deadlines?
It must be a new software!!!
-
Ilford are going digital? The forum will be renamed Pixelwasters and we will discuss how many megapixels you can stick in a Nikon? Or we can chat endlessly about histograms!
Heaven! ;)
-
Oh yeah! Nothing I like better than talking about using some secret contrast curve and sharpening technique ::)
-
It's wine!
Ilford has purchased some acreage in southern California and plans to go in the wine making biz..
;)

Even if it isn't, it looks like a great little piece of kit. Hopefully, it'll sell by the bucket-load and get B&W film mainstream popular again. Why 27 exposures, though? Size / volume constraints? Price-driven?
-
It's just that most disposables I've seen were 27 exposures.
But since he was talking about a coating machine, I'm thinking about the re-introduction of direct positive paper which was pulled out of production temporarily due to technical difficulties.
-
Leon is this what you were talking about? http://www.ilfordphoto.com/pressroom/article.asp?n=154 (http://www.ilfordphoto.com/pressroom/article.asp?n=154)
No.
-
But since he was talking about a coating machine, .
It has nothing to do with a coating machine, other than the fact that ilford own a coating machine.
-
Are they recycling old fixer, using it to coat underpants and socks, for the silver component to inhibit growth of odour causing microbes?
Do we want our feet and nether regions to smell of old fixer anyway? Come to think of it mine probably do already...
-
Did Ilford get Kate Middleton pregnant? :o
-
I love that this thread is 3 pages long

Did Ilford get Kate Middleton pregnant? :o
Imagine! they would need a darkroom for the labour...

Looks like they've already used the dark room!! Fnaar Fnaar!

Argh! I've come here for some sanity away from speculation/hype.
Is there no escape? >:(
However I'd forgotten this little teaser.
Mike
-
They're making instant coffee so I can brew Ilford caffenol!
This just keeps going on and on doesn't it???!!!
:P
-
Just to annoy Leon (you know how I love doing that), lets just suppose Ilford is joining forces with some company to produce under the Ilford brand a new 35mm full frame digital back that fits any standard 35mm body ;) :P
http://www.re35.net/ (http://www.re35.net/)

Wouldn't it be nice if the disposable camera came in classic camera shapes?

Classic camera shape.
-
be neat to see a disposable 120 camera.
-
I don't think that's ever been done before.
-
YES! A disposable 120!
-
Or a "ONE SHOT" cardboard pinhole? ::)
-
The re-introduction of giant roll film!
Come in handy for spotting chavs in your neighborhood! ;)
-
disposable 120 and a pinhole . . . brilliant
-
One thing I'd really like is if they brought back Instant 35mm.
Maybe they'll look at this thread and find some inspiration for their next products!
-
A disposable instant in 120. Can't wait!
-
disposable pinhole 120 would be fun!
If they need help in design, I'm in!!!
8)
-
Yup, I'm really glad Leon let us in on this! I'm going to go post it on some other film communities.
-

I thought we were only speculating the whole time!
A collective dream in a way...
-
Or a "ONE SHOT" cardboard pinhole? ::)
A One-Shot New55 (http://new55project.blogspot.com/) pinhole could be wasteful-but-fun. :) I still think a TiTAN pinhole and a pile of Ilford-made New55 would make for a very fun weekend.
I'd settle for this, though:

Man... I really really like this! I love the darkslide working as shutter for the pinhole...
-
I'm up for that giant film. You could make a crazy pin-hole with that! 12000mm perhaps?
-
I guess the only exciting thing going on about Ilford is this thread! ;)
-
Hey! I think I've just discovered what's going on with Ilford!
When you use all the letters in ilford, you can make the word florid :)
Florid
Adjective
Having a red or flushed complexion: "a stout man with a florid face".
Elaborately or excessively intricate or complicated: "florid operatic-style music was out".
Synonyms
ornate - ruddy - flowery

Not sure where you are going with this one François?
-
Well, it is something related to i-l-f-o-r-d is a way...
Not that it's of any interest whatsoever... but it is something new in the sense that I don't think anyone has ever thought of it before ;D
It's new, doesn't involve the marketing of a new product, can be understandably a delayed announcement in a way, doesn't involve a change in logo, doesn't involve a new mascot, doesn't involve a new corporate acquisition, doesn't require a countdown, is not the re-introduction of some product that was pulled, can give you points when you play anagrams...
In other words, it fits the bill perfectly :P :P :P
Hey! It could be a nice name for a redscaled color film! Just imagine loading up with some Florid 100 :o :o :o
Well... Ok... probably not a good idea... so this one goes nowhere and does nothing... Scrabble anyone :) It's worth at least 10 points :)

on the note on IR-film; I saw this posted at http://www.flickr.com/groups/ishootfilm/discuss/72157632227414539/ (http://www.flickr.com/groups/ishootfilm/discuss/72157632227414539/)
This was posted to day at APUG:
Reply From HARMAN technology Limited Re True IR Film.
Dear All,
As promised I have the feedback from HARMAN regarding requests to produce a true infra red camera film.
The internal R&D review and commercial reviews have been completed and a decision has been reached.
In relation to R&D, we have previously to 2000 produced a number of emulsion models in relation to a true IR film, whilst significant development work would be required to update those models in relation to current raw material availability since originally worked on, it would be possible to produce a film should a R&D programme be progressed.
The main negative issue is in relation to our own automated emulsion preparation systems that aid 100% batch to batch consistency, this depends on a 'minimum' make that can be coated and / or stored dependant on coated volumes. With an IR film this process control system could not be used as immediate coating is required for an IR emulsion to control levels of base fog which are critical.
Therefore coated volumes produced would be uneconomical against the investment required, in relation to the size of the worldwide market, even allowing for our ability to coat 'small' volumes.
Secondary, to have any hope of reaching a commercially viable coated volume it would also mean that the EXTENDED Red film ILFORD SFX would need to be withdrawn if a true IR film was to be embarked upon. This would go against our stated market position where NO ILFORD Photo product in relation to our monochrome ranges will be withdrawn. ILFORD SFX has a very loyal following, and has unique attributes in relation to architectural photography that cannot be replicated with a full IR film.
The management of HARMAN technology Limited have therefore decided NOT to progress with a true IR film at this time. Our extended red film SFX film in 35mm and 120 roll film will obviously remain in full manufacture and availability.

interesting? Yes, Jonas. Exciting? No, Jonas.
:D
-
after reading that . . .
it is a pity they are not going to do a true IR film
but this is very interesting . . .
our stated market position where NO ILFORD Photo product in relation to our monochrome ranges will be withdrawn.
this opens another question and a bit off topic . . .
should we be supporting ILFORD more? as the other major players in the market
have been cutting back on their film ranges.

Yes Yes yes!
-
"This would go against our stated market position where NO ILFORD Photo product in relation to our monochrome ranges will be withdrawn."
No, not "exciting," but the most encouraging film-related statement I have read in a long time. Shoot more Ilford film!
-
our stated market position where NO ILFORD Photo product in relation to our monochrome ranges will be withdrawn.
in times like these, that's the exciting part if you ask me :) GO ILFORD!!!
-
Although I've been considering Acros as the slow(ish) film I intend to use "exclusively" from 2013 onwards, I'm really encouraged by Ilford's approach and I will be supporting the "home team" for all my B&W work - so long as I can get their film in the format needed (35mm and/or 120).
Well done Ilford. Just a pity they don't have an equivalent of Portra 400 or it'd be a clean sweep.
-
Yes, that's very encouraging. Especially as they serve the low end market in 35mm with their Kentmere emulsions, too! At least on this side of the pond there's no cheaper ISO 400 to be had. And the ISO 100 isn't that much more expensive than Agfa APX 100. So I will go the "low end" route and buy exclusively Kentmere. Now 120 is a different story ...
-
Does anyone know how architectural photography benefits from using SFX? I'm intrigued. :)
-
Architectural would be great on SFX!
To get an idea of how great it would be, just check out Julius Shulman's outdoor shots. Many of them were shot using infrared. SFX would be a bit similar, but only softer as it is not a full IR film.
Actually, since we dream out loud on this thread, what I'd really love to see is a color film based on the old autochrome process that could give color images when processed in B&W chemicals. This would be a revolutionary process in a way. It would give a one of a kind look that is totally impossible to reproduce. They could do it by making a colored base that contains the RGB colors spread in a stocaistic pattern and coat the film in reverse like redscaled film. This would filter the incoming light making the silver react differently with each spot of permanent dye. It's a bit like the tri-chrome process but with only one film.
-
francois, thats sounds fantastic !

Just like anything else I'd suggest supporting Ilford if they provide you with a reason too; in my view they seem to have a "corporate culture" that is committed to film as a medium (and seem to be able to operate a viable business based on that) and a wide range of excellent products at fair prices so I do support them (by buying those products and recommending them to others).

Even apps like instragram would have a hard time to reproduce the effects! Fantastic Francois...!!

I call it all in a day's work.
Too bad nobody in the province seems to need what I call "technical dreamers". People who can invent stuff and roughly figure out how to do it and then let the experts take over and finish up the work.
-
Technical Dreamers - perfect Francois!
seriously, have you approached anyone with your technical dreams?
-
Yeah... but I keep being turned down saying I'm overqualified for the job...

Donkey Dave, that news excites me and clears up some confusion. Since I got back into film, I have wondered why i have not yet been able to reproduce a trivial yet fun action - that of opening an ilford cassette by walloping it and having the lid go sproinging off into the darkness. And here I was just thinking i had lost my groove.
I hate having to find the danged can opener!!! Please Ilford, gimme back those awesome canisters. Comments as to the criteria I value in film welcome but not required ;-p
-
you use can openers? I usually just peel back the felt and open the canister like a sardine can, no need for tools. Just manhandle the canister open.
-
Haha tintin that sounds worse than a can opener ;)
I want my "whap it against the table and the end flies off" canisters back!! It was as satisfying as pounding a beer bottle lid off with the corner of a rusty piece of farm machinery (rolls eyes at self).
-
I just use a bottle opener. When you have a good one, you just hook and pry. Takes a few seconds and it works very well.
Mine has a magnet on the back so I can stick it to my squeegee board for easy retrieval.
Now I must say I'd love to have an old Kodak wall mounted opener...
-

that's the way! easier than any can opener I've tried :P
anyhow, this sounds positive! I hope they make them easier to open :)

So, I have been thinking about this since like June, but life has conspired to keep me too busy. This is not something we need ilford for, I don't think. Can't we create a stochastic pattern of RGB dots in photoshop, print it on a transparency, and shoot the bw negative through it like what the original process used dyed flour grains for? Since we could pack the dots together and not leave any white space, the lampblack would not be necessary and it would be much more viewable, and as long as we kept everything in register it seems pretty doable! I don't know there's probably a lot I haven't thought of, but someone who isn't me should try this. Or I should... eventually :(
edit- Plus I feel like this is one of the places doing it yourself would be much better, since you could set your own color space on a per-sheet basis.
-
Well... I passed the idea on to Ilford and this is the reply I got
Dear Francois,
Our Technical people believe that the costs involved would not make it viable to progress this product suggestion.
Regards,
Graham
Guess it's a no go on this one... bummer.
-
On the other hand they are actually answering!
-
Good point there.
At least, we know that they do listen to what their users have to say. Something which isn't very common nowadays
-
Just a bump, and to say this is still bubbling away in the background - expect an announcement to coincide with Focus on Imaging in March.
that's it - I can say no more :-X
-
Noooooo! just when we'd all forgotten about it we're now going to have a plethora of speculation again and will still have to wait until March!! :'(
-
Okay - so "Focus on Imaging" is a digi-fest for the most part but is anyone going? If I go, I tend to go early (doors opening) on the Sunday. If anyone fancies a meet, drop me a PM.
I'm sufficiently intrigued / frustrated with this thread to hang around the Ilford stand - just to see what this has all been about..... :o
-
I think its bubblegum scented fixer guys...
-
I feel like a fish in the pond. And there's someone trying to get me to take that hook.
They probably got an environmental stamp of approval on their products. And some ISO 9000 derivative stamp.
This is starting to be bo-ring.
-
Actually, it's very exciting. So stick that in your tank and develop it.
Also, there is a new second thing that is equally exciting, but I'm also sworn to silence on that too!
BRILLIANT.
:-X
-
You tease!!!
Let me guess, they bought the old Kodachrome machinery for a tenner in Kodak's "Everything Must Go!" sale, and raided the skip round the back of Dwayne's for the old process machine, and are going to introduce New Ilfochrome!
But seriously, I wonder what it is going to be?
-
Actually, I'm just kidding. But we've been waiting for so long that we're running out of ideas.
But I also know that even if we'd stumbled on it, you wouldn't let anything leak. Ilford did train you good.
So, possibilities for March...
Too bad it's not February as I would have thought it could have to do with Punxsutawney Phil...
Oh, well. Why not just go crazy with totally stupid propositions that make no commercial sense whatsoever.
Ilford to go in the perfume business: introduces "scent of fixer".
Ilford to start making Orange scented stop bath: Product to be a derivative of Orange Tang powder.
Ilford to venture into the digital capture domain: introduces a new high speed film scanning device.
Ilford re-introduces the Disc format film.
Ilford launches a new line of darkroom equipment.
Ilford introduces a new instant processing 35mm film.
Ilford to commercially offer caffenol in pre-mixed packs.
-
Well even if it is not going to be announced until march there is still a chance that I will get it in my hot little hands (whatever the goodness is that Leon is teasing us with) before I get the danged lomochrome I ordered today haha. It's a fun time to be an analog nerd :-)
-
How about next weekend we tie Leon up to 'Godwins Groynes' at Pett Level, wait for the tide to come in, and when it's up to his neck he'll sing like a canary.
Or get him drunk at lunchtime?
-
the funniest thing about this thread is that it is probably only good news for me! We shall see.
I have a feeling that this is going to be the longest running "blowing my own trumpet" thread ever. 8)
-
Actually, I'm just kidding.
S'Okay F. I knew you were. Likewise for my replies.
-

Or tie him to the middle of one of the sound mirrors and play the Susan Boyle Lez Miz track on a loop to him until he squeals! ;D
-

I'll squeal at the sight of the CD - no rope required.
-
Susan Boyle? you're mean ;D
I was thinking that you can't get worse than that... then again...
We have a local guy that's got her beat. He sells CD's quite well (which is the first surprise). It's probably very funny when you're really drunk. But since I don't drink, it's pretty pointless to me. He says he had an apparition and god told him that he had the talent to write a new song a day to spread some love... and he believed it! This is one of his official videos for a song called "the doorknob" telling the story of a guy who came to visit but kept his hand on the doorknob while chatting endlessly. If anyone can stand this for the entire length of the clip, I give them a pretzel!

If Focus on Imaging is a digifest... and the announcement is going to coincide with it, please don't tell me its that Ilford has joined the digital game.
-
You know Leon would never do that!
He'd rather burn his Chamonix than admit to anything like that ;)
Actually, I think they'll use the portrait they took of him at the previous show to put on the cover of one of their boxes :P
-

Don't say that François - no one will buy the stuff then. :o
-
...gonna reintroduce 72 exposure HP5...
-
So is it the Harman Titan 8x10 pinhole camera then?
-
That's only part of it, Urban.
Apparently, there's something entirely separate which is going to be released into the wild at "Focus on Imaging" at the NEC at the beginning of March. I was talking to one of the chaps that runs West End Cameras earlier this week and he mentioned that he's quite excited by this new product. He gave no details whatsoever but it's expected to be quite an attention grabber and not too expensive. Clearly "not too expensive" is a subjective term but he said the retail price in the UK will be "less than £100".
That aside, I haven't got the foggiest what it is. What I'm hoping for is a decent quality film camera (maybe along the lines of a Holga) that will appeal to the masses and boost film sales.
-
Maybe the OBSCURA pinhole camera that's mentioned here? http://www.ilfordphoto.com/pressroom/article.asp?n=157 (http://www.ilfordphoto.com/pressroom/article.asp?n=157)
-
...gonna reintroduce 72 exposure HP5...
I have a couple rolls of this stuff laying around. Imagine shooting it on a half frame!
-
.........and Leon / the 8x10 Titan pinhole gets a mention as well...!
The cat seems well and truly out of the bag - unless there's more.....???
-
<i>2Other new products being announced at the exhibition include:
- MOD 54 a large format film processor for use with Paterson 3 reel film processing tanks allowing up to 6 sheets 4x5 film to be processed at the same time.</i>
nice to know that more options are coming for developing sheet film :)
-
Seeing as they have already announced it ... It was the Pro-Gallery site that I am/was really enthused by. People can buy affordable silver prints of their favourite photographer's work produced in the Harman/Ilford darkrooms with a quality guarantee. Some of my work will be available alongside others - in a variety of sizes. I think this is a really interesting manoeuvre for the Mobberly crew, and one I hope becomes successful.
See, it's all about me, as usual ;)

Read all the details about it here
New at Focus 2013, and supported by images from Leon Taylor, will be the HARMAN TiTAN 8x10 Pinhole Camera designed and manufactured in the UK by Walker Cameras. This follows the extremely successful introduction of the 4x5 inch version at Focus 2012.
Well done Leon :)
-
BTW, Leon is there a release date for the 8x10, yet? My Jobo drum is already here and I'm currently working on the film holders (i.e. if anybody has some spare ones ...).
-
18 seconds Francois... :o
-
What I'm hoping for is a decent quality film camera (maybe along the lines of a Holga) that will appeal to the masses and boost film sales.
Holga and decent quality not usually appearing in the same sentence!
Actually something like a modern-day Ilford Sportsman might be pretty nifty.

I'm wondering if this is going to be the 'mini' version of the Titan, maybe using 120 roll film - a cheaper 'gateway drug' into the Ilford pinhole family!
Certainly a roll film mini-Titan (which I guess is a contradiction in terms) would be something I'd buy!
-
18 seconds Francois... :o
I don't get it?
-
Hey, a 'mini Titan' could be called an Eos, or a Helios, or a Selene, which would be very cool.
Oh, but yeah, Eos is already taken.
::)
-
Kronos! But there is already a shutter called that but with a C.

I wasn't intending to infer any suggestion of quality on Holga - just that the new Ilford pinhole might benefit from being of similar size, etc. If Walker / Titan (or Ilford) is making it, I suspect that (a) it will be of solid / worthy materials and (b) it won't be necessary to use black gaffer tape to hold the back in place and seal up all the light leaks. The absence of a lens that resembles a partly sucked boiled sweet can only improve optical performance, in comparative terms.

now that's something that would interest me!
maybe it could be called HARMAN SPORTITAN?? -leon, pull those strings of yours hard now!! ;)
make it a something wide like 6x9 or 6x12, with inner masking possibilities to go down to 6x6 minimum and the same cone system as before. perfect!

I got the MOD54 recently but haven´t used it yet, well I have practiced but not for real, it seems pretty easy going and well done, but a bit pricy I would say.

I'd intended to but too much to do at home this weekend. I hope the Ilford stand is inundated with orders for the new film wasting products. It's just a pity there aren't more companies like them - not only promoting film use but investing in new products.
Hope you have a great day if you go.
