to combat the quietness.......lets all post a portrait....
« on: November 29, 2008, 03:23:21 PM »
this isnt a gallery, a competition or anything, no time limits.....

hows about we all choose ONE picture each,  must be a portrait (or people- centric), can be old or as new as you like.

and if there is any back story..feel free to share.

post here.  then we can all admire, comment, critique and so on.

So then....lets go.

One of my fave recent portraits (actually it's from about a year ago). My Grandfather, Charlie Wenn, and my son, Joe Wenn.

...I've probably got something more arty around here somewhere. Will go take a look.

{edit}

...Just realised I have about 30 portraits of Leon that I took in July and still haven't had time to scan and muse over. Now that I'm out of my hellish 10 week stretch of working what's called 'unsociable hours' I may find time to do something other than eat, work and sleep.

Some skater kids I met in a dying town called Hayden. They were super friendly and loved the Polaroids (I gave them a couple).

I agonised over which pic to post, not really one of mine (so I claim the right to post one of mine ;) ) as my other half took it. me and my son last summer when he was about 4 months old.

This is my dad, with his favourite mammal in the world - Lottie, the miniature schnauzer (and yes, I do mean he preferred her over me, my mum and my sister!).

Dad died in February of this year, aged 93. He came to fatherhood in his 50s (there was a 23-year age gap between him and my mum), and used to joke that he was never sure whether having two daughters late in life added ten years to his existence, or took ten years off it. He was an amazing individual, and I adored him.

This is the best picture I ever took of him.

excellent Idea for a thread Damion - and really nice pictures all round:

along the family theme that seems to have developed in the thread, here are two of my dad and brother I took in the summer.  My dad and brother both work/work at sea  and salt water is in their blood.  I'm a mere landlubber who struggles with walking along a pier, but as it was my Dad's 70th this year, I swallowed my pride and joined them for a trip across the north sea to Holland in their yacht.  These were taken whilst enjoying a well deserved beer in Imjuiden Marina bar after what was probably the scariest  24 hours I have ever spent. Although we did have a dolphin jumping about in our wake which was quite something to see, and maybe reassured me that my darkroom chemicals hadnt affected the fish stocks in the North Sea quite as much as I feared (it's these things that keep me awake at night).

Hey, we're on a roll. Great stuff, everyone. Particularly love the portrait of Red Dad...fantastic and exactly how I imagined him. Warmth and kindness given off in spades.

...and as if that wasn't enough, I've also done some test scans of Leon x 34 and think I may even have a winner. Will mail them to Leon directly before going public.

Well, as a few people have already broken the ONE picture rule ;), here's a front view of the wife.

This is proving to be a great thread - well done that man for starting it. Seems like we're all pulling out our favourite photos from the past. The two of mine were taken about ten years ago but are still my favourites of the wife. It looks like Mike's (happyforest) was taken a while back if the young lady is really holding a 110 instamatic (looks like it to me) and roryot's looks full of memories. I think Andrea's is the tops for me so far though.

Becky, that second one is scary! Well done.
 ;)

Just did a quick scan of this snap taken at Leon's house at the time of the last podcast. It's Damion wielding his compact point 'n' shoot 600 SE. The perfect camera for shy people.

I'll stick with family... a portrait of my grandmother two days before her 99th birthday last April. She was doing pretty well at that time, but she finally passed in August.

I'm so glad I made this portrait despite her objections!

Wow! Some very cool portraits have been added to this thread recently. Thanks.

Malika: You're very welcome to Filmwasters and thanks for posting here; it's always great to see new people. It would be good however if you edited your images before posting to reduce them in size for the benefit of those people viewing the site on small monitors/phones/Internet tablets etc. A largest side of between 500-700 pixels is about right. Thanks.
