Back in the days when a few of us used to hang out over at the toycamera.com forum our friend, Melissa Taylor, had a go on something similar as part of a photography course or something. She raved about it...a lot!!

They have (or had ) a handful of these roaming the country, major metro areas and universities I imagine.  And then John Reuter managed one in NY also.  They are expensive to book for a day but anyone can do them I believe with some oversight.  And if you plan for it, then you can get a mess of work done in a day.

I have thought about going in it on it with someone before...
My chopstick is really a love poem.

Oooh, maybe we need a filmwaster meet up with one of these... everyone gets to take one photo, so you better make it count.

$100 so worth it.

But you have to do something besides the white background confrontational portrait... that is all I have ever seen done with these it seems. some real extensive light painting would be awesome.

St. Ansel Adams took one of those into the field several times mounted on the back of a flatbed truck, just because he could and since Mr. Land let him play with anything Land/Polaroid made he did.

just look at the size of that GG screen - it's almost as big as my front door (no, that's not a euphemism)

Now - forgive me for sounding a bit of a fickoe , but, is this able to take standard sheet film (if you can get it cut to that size)?  If not, isnt it going to to become very much redundant pretty soonish what with the seemingly inevitable loss of the P-roid film - if that's the case, not sure how many people will be bidding for a ?20k oversized paperweight.

^^^ Everyone just ignore that bloke in the back of the room!  ;D

It's gorgeous- I'll use it as a paperweight any day... now, who's putting up the cash?

I agree with Leon, this is one for the Mr. Obvious Show.  Its over for this, he is about 6 months to late on ebay.  I suggest selling to a museum.   Polaroid, Fiber Paper....I have started to learn to paint again.  This is my only pure endeavor I can find that may have longevity?  Sorry for the downer but I am really upset about all this news.

I know there is still film available for Ultra Large Format cameras. Choice is not great but it is available. I checked in View Camera magazine (Jan/Feb. 2004) where they have a big article on the subject. They offer quite a few web links:
Film:
JandC Photo
The View Camera Store
Bostick & Sullivan
Custom film sizes: The Photo Warehouse

Holders:
AWB Enterprises
S&S Film Holders
store: Quality Camera
Wisner
Lotus View Camera
Tachihara

Cameras:
K.B.Canham
Ebony
Gandolfi
Lotus View Camera
R.H.Phillips & Sons (email: rhphil@concentric.net)
Tachihara
Wisner

For a new camera, either in Banquet or ULF sizes, new, you can expect to pay between about 3000$ for a 7x17 Wisner banquet camera to about 12,000$ for an Ebony 11x14.

I haven't checked if they were still valid, the magazine goes back to 2004 so things could have changed since then.
