Title: "New Emulsion" 2013, Agfaphoto APX?
Post by: tkmedia on September 13, 2013, 05:41:51 AM
I notice there are (new emulsion) Lupus Agfaphoto APX 100 and 400 films available. Anyone tried these yet?

I have used the new APX 100 extensively. I like it a lot.

This image was taken with an Exa 1a on Agfa APX 100.

Just to make sure these are the 2013 new and not the 2010 new from the last of the old pre bankrupts AGFA Leverkusen master rolls?

No, I've bought it from www.macodirekt.de (http://www.macodirekt.de) this summer and it's made in Belgium.

Just to make sure: are we talking about the brand new APX100 with the "New Emulsion" badge on the package? -> http://filmphotography.eu/reviews/agfaphoto-apx-100-new-und-apx-400-new-im-test/ (http://filmphotography.eu/reviews/agfaphoto-apx-100-new-und-apx-400-new-im-test/) There they say it's labeled "Made in EU". Afaik it's only available since August or September 2013.

Yes.  :) August? I've bought it earlier.

The Agfa APX 100 boxes I bought have the same box design, but without "New Emulsion" line.
Expiry date is 12.2014. So, they are from the 2010 batch.

So you have the Agfa-Gevaert (Belgium) versions.... It would be even more confusing if Fotoimpex finally releases AdoxPan 400, which was based on newer version of AGFA APX400... but it is not classic AGFA APX, new AGFAPhoto APX (belgium) or AGFAPhoto New Emulsion APX!

Afaik there never was a Agfa-Belgium made APX100. Mr. Schroeder, former CE of Maco, confirmed many times that all APX were form the last and huge production run in 2005/2006 in Leverkusen and there never was a new APX. The cakes were frozen and the very last batch is now being sold. That of course was before the recent "new emulsion" APX, that is available only since a few weeks. I would be very surprised if the "new emulsion" APX has anything to do with the "real" Agfa, be it old german or still existing belgian one. Imho it will be a relabeled Kentmere, Foma, Orwotech or something like that. Keep in mind that todays Agfaphoto is only a distributor who holds the brand name, nothing more.

Maybe I should have used better words... I also dont believe "Belgium" made the film completely "new", but just finished it.

I'm well aware the old Agfa is no longer in the consumer imaging photography business, but their old Belgium counterpart Gevaert (Agfa AG (film) merged with Gevaert (paper) and Bayer (Chem)  in the 1960's) still makes various industrial films. AGFAPhoto went out of business and only lasted a year, it is now holding company. Lupus is a licence holder of the AGFAPhoto brand.

I'm now confused  :o

Where is the information link? Ag Photographic are frank in acknowledging they do not know whether their APX 100 stock is old or new, whilst their APX 400 is described as 'new'.

Either way, has anyone got any comparison shots with old/new emulsions of either? I've only tried the old stock...thanks for digging through your photos and posting some :D
