Is there a server emergency? I noticed that all the threads seem to have new posts, even though I've read them - and then spotted that I am logged in as someone else !!!

On most pages you won't notice, but now on the Main Forum index page I'm logged in as Banana Legs.

Sometimes it shows me logged in as Bryan which is correct, other times it shows it as Mike (happy forest). Sometimes it shows me as not logged in.

Something is not right. I have logged in on the PC with a user name Kai-San, with loads of unread post. The iPad shows the correct see name and no unread posts.
Oh, Bryan appears to be logged is as me.

I think I'm in a time warp. My post isn't showing up and it keeps telling there are new posts when there aren't and I keep changing from me to Bryan and who the hell is Banana Legs anyway????

This is worrying. I already have enough personalities floating around in my head and competing for primacy - I don't need more elbowing their way in from the internet muddying the waters further. But for the moment at least, I'm me. I think.

I clicked on the site this morning (not logged in) but it certainly looked as if I was logged in - but couldn't log out. Something is definitely not right with the site. Very weird and needs sorting.....

Hi everyone, I have no idea WTF is going on with the site, but I would like to apologise for the confusion that's being caused. I have logged on and run all of the standard admin tasks as well as updated the forum software to the latest version.
I notice that when I access the forum from a new PC (and don't log in) I am automatically allocated the username for Peter R, or Sandeha, or Astrobeck. If I then click Logout and then attempt to login as myself things do eventually seem to work, but it's a bit of a strange one. I'm not going to have much time to dedicate to this until Tuesday as I'm travelling over the UK Bank Holiday weekend. Grr!
I'll do some Googling and see if this is a known problem with SMF (Simple Machines Forums).

I didn't feel a thing since I'm older than you, I suppose I have entered a state of numbness. ;D
I'm making plans as if I was to reach 150 and I never look back, that works most of the time. Our days are numbered anyway so one has to make the best of it, especially with a future ruled by maniacs with a red button to push. (Now if that didn't cheer you up I don't know what will. ;D )

I tried logging out and logging back in, first of all it wouldn't let me log out because the login token was mine, but it thought I was logged in as KevinAllan. Once I threw my laptop against the wall it seemed to finally log me out. Then when I tried to log back in as me, it didn't accept my password (I use a password manager, so I'm fairly certain it was the right password). I used the reset password email (luckily, the email came to me, I was afraid it would go to a random user :D ), and I'm able to log in, but it still shows me as KevinAllan. Well, at least for now ;D
Thanks for looking into this, Ed. If a simple software update didn't solve it, then it may be something a fair bit more complex. I remember a similar thing happening on an ecommerce site I managed, and it turned out the problem was that I used a "=" in my php code where there should have been an "==". I can't see SMF screwing up something like that though :D

If I go to "My Messages", sometimes I'm logged as François and can see his mailbox and his messages. This is bad for sure.

I discovered that clicking to see the new links logs me out... unless it's my cache acting-up.

Things have gotten quite a bit worse for me ... now more often than not I am NOBODY. Not only does that send me into all sorts of existential crises, it means I can't reply to any thread. I don't know how I finally got to be able to write this post, but I've been trying for the last 1/2 hour :-\

Yep, as with Indofunk, aside from having multiple (and sometimes no) personalities :o I've struggled to post things or, when I have, they haven't shown up.

Hi Becky, the forum database is not corrupt. We have a caching problem that seems to be affecting a lot of other Websites around the world and is likely to do with some software called Varnish that a lot of web hosts use to help increase performance on their customers' sites. I've been away for the weekend, but am back now and will be contacting Bluehost (the company who we pay to host Filmwasters) when I get home this evening.
If you do a hard refresh on a page (that's SHIFT + F5 on a PC) then it should show you the page as it really is (i.e. including all the latest posts) and you should be yourself. I've been doing this here all morning and it works almost every time.
