8x10 glacier photography
« on: December 17, 2012, 11:13:16 AM »
This is definitely not "wasting" of film, but I can't help sharing it... Today by chance while busily procrastinating I've stumbled upon a short documentary film about LF photographer Bernd Nicolaissen: http://youtu.be/-xHUn5E1NNo - making breathtaking images inside of glaciers - you can also see his work on his website: http://www.berndnicolaisen.com/
Website of sorts, as well as ipernity thing.

Great film. I found the scale of the glacier amazing. What a great opportunity for the photographer to go there and shoot such an inspiring place.

Thanks for sharing.

A great find Andrej and makes me almost want to trade my 5x4 in for a 10x8! I do think that if the film went on for any longer with that melancholic track I'd soon be depressed  ;)

Indeed, very melancholic - I wouldn't say depressive... A touch of haunting beauty of the North... But very beautiful.. I think I'll have to find out about some exhibition and see those prints in flesh...

And since I lately keep returning to the thought of getting an 8x10 more and more often this doesn't "help" me much either... But when I think about the sheer physical strength and endurance one needs for this type of photography...
But it is worth every drop of sweat I would say..

Personally, while watching the video, all I could think about is that a big chunk of ice would fall on his head.

Both great - I preferred Paul's find, but, I do like a little music to slash my wrists by :o
