We wish you a merry Christmas, We wish you a merry Christmas...
« on: December 24, 2014, 05:58:37 PM »
I just realized that it's the 24th and that those of us in Australia have already had a visit from Santa.
So... I wish you all a very merry Christmas.
And for those who don't celebrate, a very happy Winter Holiday.
Days are slowly getting longer, so that's at least worth a bit of a celebration ;)

Hope Santa will bring you some super nice stuff and that you'll be surrounded by friends and family to share a good meal.

Merry Christmas everyone!

Apologies we've been so hands-off with FW in 2014, but we've all been really busy doing other stuff and it was a choice between shutting the site down, or keeping it ticking over without as much direction or participation from us as in previous years. I'm glad we chose the latter and I'd like to register huge personal thanks to Skorj for being the driving force behind the "let's keep it going" lobby. We definitely made the right decision.

Thanks also to you forum regulars who keep the conversation lively, informed and engaging; you rule!

Have a Merry Christmas from Los Lunas, NM USA!

I hope you are having fun shooting. I am going to use my Grandfather's Polaroid Model 210 for the photos like he did in the past.

Shut it down......??

This place (or more accurately the wonderful, wonderful people who make it what it is) plays a big part in keeping me sane and motivated in a world that's becoming less tolerable, the older I get.  If this site didn't exist, I'd go digital.

Happy Christmas etc!

Again apologies for being off radar for a lot of the year  - between having our first child (they take up a lot of time it seems!) selling a house and living at my Moms since August (patchy internet) and now in the new house (no internet until end of Jan) its been difficult to a) take pictures and b) get online.

My hopes for 2015 involve fibre broadband and spare time and after those 2 get sorted, Ill go for world peace

Those lifestyle changes are amongst the most stressful things anyone can face, so I'm not remotely surprised you've been "otherwise engaged" for a lot of 2014.  We all manage it our own way, to a larger or lesser extent, but finding some "me" time is important.

Here's hoping you manage to get broadband. I use Sky as it's one of VERY few that actually is genuinely "unlimited" and it's pretty quick / reliable - even in the part of the world where we live (East Anglia).  We're Sky customers but, apparently, that isn't a requirement - and they are doing a good deal at the moment.

World peace? Compared to bringing up a baby and moving house - that'll be a doddle  :o

I went with Talk Talk in the end of they were the cheapest at the time for Fibre, one of my mates is with them and they say its been reliable.   I did have BT infinity and that was fairly good at my old address, however my Mom is with BT and its shocking at her house (new new house being round the corner)  so I have avoided!

The downside to going with Talk Talk was that due to the offer they had on its taken over a month for them to come out and plug it in.   Given I've been without Internet since August  - figured a few more weeks wouldn't hurt.

Would have given Sky a try but got suckered in by the prices!

Yeah, I suppose location is key with this.  We don't have fibre-optic cables near us, so we're limited to telephone wires + cable from the local junction box to our home.  It's okay. I don't believe the speed is as fast as advertised but it's not slow enough to cause any grief. Why can't internet and mobile phones be wireless / satellite?  Why always land-line / cable?

As it happens, we were with Talk Talk some years ago and they were shocking. Slooooooow connection, accounts problems every other month, cold-calling late in the evening.  I think they'd just bought another company and the growing pains / left hand not knowing what the right hand was doing was all-too-obvious.  The worst thing was when we dumped them; they made the process as slow and painful as possible - almost like they wanted to punish us  for even thinking about choosing another provider.  That said, a friend of mine is with them and he seems happy enough, so I hope they do the business for you.

Free time with a new house and a baby? Good luck, Damion. :P I managed to get the space for a small darkroom in our new house, but even after 6 months here, I just managed to unpack the boxes with the development stuff. Maybe in 2016 I'll have a fully functioning darkroom.
