WARNING: Forum Upgrade Imminent
« on: June 13, 2012, 02:36:30 PM »
Team, it's that time again....yes, I'm being forced to upgrade the forum software by our web host. Normally this is a relatively painless process, but in the past we have hit a few bumps on the road to "Current Version Heaven" (pop. 2165).

I'm hoping you won't see anything strange, but if the forum isn't here the next time you visit, go and check our Twitter feed  because that's where I'll post updates and news should we be off line for more than a few minutes.

...as an addendum to the above, there's a very good chance that the forum will have to be reset to a standard theme after the upgrade and will therefore look a bit boring and a bit blue. The FW icons and logos etc. won't be around either.

This is a pain, but there's not much to be done and time is tight. Better to do the upgrade before our web host shuts down the site and then get the look and feel sorted out afterwards.

Well, we'll see how it goes, but I'm glad you're entering into the spirit of the occasion, Jonas!!

I just upgraded the test forum we use for these occasions and it went off without a hitch, but it's always different when it's the real thing. I have taken backups though so we should be OK eventually.....er, I hope.

Ed: Wish you lots of luck. I remember the last one had you spend a year's worth supply of swear words in record time...

I just hope it goes much smoother this time.

Jonas! Just fixed the logo situation. More changes over the next few days to get everything looking as close to what we had before as I can manage with my mad CSS/PHP skillz (in other words...."we're doomed!").

Get a flash stick and install PortableApps on it. You'll be able to get a ton more software running ;)

ohyeah, I've got something similar to that from the pc whiz department but with evaluation software only. I'll check into PortableApps though, thanks! ;)

It's all open source software and there's a ton of it!
All very well made and truly portable. They have a big games section too ;)

On my stick, I have The Gimp and a few other good things. Keepass Portable is a very secure password safe with the possibility to produce high security passwords using entropy. Sumatra PDF is a super mini PDF viewer that is well worth installing.

And if you go to the forums section of the site, you can get stuff that is still in beta testing stage. I got TuxGuitar there so I can read all the different files from Guitar Pro and such.
