Leon has just given me permission to start up a new postcard exchange! Keep your eyes on this spot for information coming soon!
-
Ohhh, nice! Looking forward to this one! :D
-
Hi Diane, count me in!
-
Wohoo! Really grateful for the initiative Diane, I`m in ;D
-
I am going to copy and paste the same info from last years Postcard Exchange, as everything pretty much stays the same. Dates are different however.
Hope we have lots of people wanting to play! Details are as follows:
1) Sign up by September 15 if you want to play.
PM me your name and postal address with country and also your e-mail address.
I need your e-mail address to contact you since the forum only allows two private messages an hour. If you don't send me your e-mail, it will take longer to get your list of names.
2) Names will be sorted the week after sign-up closes.
Since we have Filmwasters from around the globe, I'll sort and divide the collected names into manageable groups (usually about 12 per group) to keep the cost of printing and postage at a manageable level. If you want to send to everyone who has signed up not just those on your list please let me know when you sign up. I will regularly update this topic with numbers of players.
Next I'll make a list of the sorted names and addresses and send them to everyone that signed up. Lists will be with you by october 1.
3) Postcards should be sent out by October 30
Cards can be printed in the darkroom, with inkjet printers or commercially on any paper (6x4 or 5x7 inches is recommended)
The important thing is the negative used to make the print must be analogue capture be it film, paper negative or Instant film.
The subject matter is entirely up to you and it's not a competition either, so have fun with it!
You can send a copy of the same print to everyone on your list, or you can make different prints for each person, it's up to you.
Details about the image such as location, camera and film type/capture written on the back with a short message are appreciated but that's up to you.
Stamp, address and then sign the cards so we know who they are from and drop them in the mail.
This is always a lot of fun, so don't miss out.
Once again the important dates to remember are:
Sign up by September 15.
Postcards mailed by October 30

Received mine a few days ago with the fun stamp! Thanks!

Also got your wonderful card with the eclipse stamp, Diane! :)
Reminds me of how we watched the eclipse on our balcony over here in 1999.
-
Received Diane's topical card a couple of days ago, but not had time til now to come on and say "thanks".
Lovely image and the stamps are a nice addition. :)
-
Thank you!

Got mine, great thanks Diane.
Cool stamps too.

Thanks Diane, I got the list and your post card. Your post card is great, I hope mine doesn't disappoint. I've been hard at work in my makeshift hotel darkroom making 4x5 contact prints.

Bryan, that is fantastic.
-
Bryan is right! That is awesome..kinda what I do in my bathroom/darkroom....I am lucky cause it is pretty large so it works great as a makeshift darkroom.
-
It's a little crowded but I made it work pretty well. Each time I want to make prints I have to take everything out of boxes, set it up, make prints then pack it all away again. I took the top off the desk lamp for my darkroom light. The nice thing is I can easily get this bathroom dark because there are no windows near it. I just close the curtains at the other end of the room, turn off all the lights and throw a towel along the bottom of the door.
-
I can't leave anything out because of my cats, but the lower cupboard is large and I can put everything in there in between...and I have a safelight on a cord that I can plug in when needed! Works pretty darn well!
-
Spent Sunday night in the Darkroom too, all will be old matt G4 paper from 127 Negs (efke R100) from either a Coronet 4x4 or Eastman Bullet. Away till later in the week when I'll get sticking and posting hopefully.
-
That´s so cool Bryan!
Got the list Diane, thank you.
It´s 14 names on mine, including myself. Am I missing someone?
-
Yes! I will send you an updated copy!
-
Aksel,..just sent you an updated list...let me know if you do not get it!!
Anyone else not receive the list of 15 names?? Let me know right away and I will send it off to you!!

Hi Diane - nothing received so far.
-
I will be adding one more name to everyone's list..send it out as soon as I am off work today!😊
-
One more name has been added and I have emailed or messaged each one of you! Let me know if you did not get my message sent today!
-
All fifteen posted today.
-
Took all of mine to the post office today. If anyone doesn't get one let me know, I made a few extras.

Miles, my card arrived today and it is the most perfect little thing, I am genuinely blown away with it. The subject resonates with me, I love that it's hand printed - it couldn't be better. It's spent the day at the back of my desk and I can't stop looking at it. Thank you.
(I'm now googling printing courses!)
-
That's very kind of you Nigel, thanks.
I enjoyed the cutting and sticking. It was nice working with 127 Negs too as don't very often.
I think FotoFusion in Brixton are great for courses, I did a Liquid Light one there and loved it.
-
I am so eager to receive these postcards! I have quite the collection from past exchanges..nice to be adding more!
-
It begins :-)
Just got a lovely Plymouth from Bryan via Port Orchard WA US of A.
Thanks Chum, it's grand.

I'm glad you like it Miles, I'm also surprised it made it that far in a week.
-
I have cards from Bryan and Miles. Both very nice! I'm still waiting to get mine from the printers. :( Not the image I had planned to use, but I'll make up for it. :)
-
I too have Miles' and Bryan's cards to add to Diane's fast starter...
Humble thanks to you all for providing a stellar start to what is becoming, for me, the highlight of the filmwasting year.
I've readied my image, and hope to feed some nice paper through the printer this coming weekend...
-
Mine will be ordered tonight. I am sorry I haven't been able to get into the darkroom this month. It is our last push before Christmas at work.
-
Cards printed today. Need to get some stamps, write the things, then dump them in the box and let the magic postal elves do their work.
-
I have mine from the printer, written and waiting to be posted. Maybe in the next day or two.
-
Finally got mine out this morning. I've received about half a dozen so far, from both sides of the pond.
-
Cards from Manuel and Andrej! Very welcome additions to the collection. Thanks!
-
James....did you receive my Eclipse card? I know it was sent very early but I was trying to take advantage of the ‘special’ stamp thing,
-
I have been so badly struggling to find something decent to send, that I have only sent a roll off to get developed yesterday, that I took last week, while working in Scotland (hopefully there is something good on it), so I'll apologise to one and all if I don't get them out in time.
Many thanks to you guys whose cards I have received Bryan's and Miles's car shots, Manuel's tom, Nigel's low light shot and Andrej's wall
-
I also haven't sent my cards yet. I hope to send them by Friday at the latest. I tried a new printer and the prints turned out fine, but the paper is a bit thin, so I ordered some envelopes.
Thanks to all who sent their fantastic cards already! It is really a joy to find them in my mailbox. :)
-
Mine all went today. You should all have them within a few days.
Thanks to everyone who's sent me one so far - you know who you are!
-

Yes, I received yours way back when! :)
Others received:
Bryan
Miles
Manuel
Andrej
Harvey
Hoping mine are arriving at destinations soon.
-
I’ve received six, so far: from Diane, Harvey, James, Bryan, Andrej, and Miles. I sent mine out a week ago. They should start arriving at their destinations soon.
Thanks, all—and, for organizing the exchange, especially Diane.
Matt

I've received some lovely cards and will be having a closer look at the weekend
My photo is printed and the postcards will be posted to all on Saturday.
-
I've been receiving all of your fantastic cards. I'm afraid mine won't be out in time as a few months back we had a little water come into the house and had to rip up the carpet in the downstairs (where all my computer and photo gear lived) only to discover ancient (1960s) linoleum tile that turned out to be of asbestos >:( Flash forward through an asbestos abatement specialist, moisture barrier crew, painters, plumber, flooring and carpet installers and we are only now getting everything back into order down there. I fear I may not make the deadline on this exchange, but I will definitely send you all my card once I have a chance to select an image (hopefully actually get to shoot a new one) and have cards made. I really appreciate the ones I've received (and shall still receive), they really make my day when they arrive.
-
Adam...because I work for a flooring company I deal with this type of situation a lot! Good luck getting everything sorted! We will all enjoy the postcards when they arrive!
-
Received 8 so far, such a wide variety of subjects, all black and white.
Mine posted off this evening...
Previous years I've sent them in envelopes, but I've told myself, "it's a postcard, not an original Kertesz", so stop being precious about it...
Hope they arrive safely and hope you find them worthy of a place in your collections.

I enjoy seeing the damage they sustain getting to my mailbox, it's part of the charm of post cards. I have a few that you can tell went through an aggressive postal sorting machine. I haven't seen any damaged so badly that I couldn't appreciate the photo.
-
Having thought about it, I am now worried that mine might have come off their card backing.
Let me know if you get any blank pages, and I'll send them again.
Different solution next time.

Arrived safe and sound here in Kent, Chris...
-
Been away, my son contacted me and said odd postcards keep arriving for you but they don't seem to be from people on holiday :-)
Made me smile.
Lots coming through, thanks all, I'll pin them all on the dark room wall for inspiration.
-
I got my prints back, now I have to just turn them into postcards!
-
Mine went Monday, or yesterday, I can't remember anything these days...! Anyway, you should start receiving them anytime now....
-
Yep sorry Paul meant to say thanks, it came today!
-
Took all of mine to the post office today and sent them on their merry way. So hopefully you guys should receive them in the next few days and weeks
-
Sorry for the delay everyone, life got in the way up here. All cards are now on their way.
Small user manual to those of you not familiar with Polaroid pack film. Carefully separate the dark part from the paper to reveal your postcard. Those of you who receives the FP100c film can also try to wash the negative, if you like :)

Mine arrived today. I haven't peeled it yet, it's very exciting!
-
Hi Aksel, mine went a bit icky in the post. It's interesting, I've got it propped at the back of my desk and it's the sort of image the more you look at it the more you see.
I'm very impressed by all the cards, everyone has been so creative. I need to completely raise my game next time!
-
Would I be able to wash the negative? I'm not sure which sort it is?
-

Well, that did not turn out quit as I planned but hey! If I remember correctly (it should say on the card what film you got) but I think you got a polaroid 669 which unfortunately is not possible to reclaim negatives from. Sorry!
-
I'm totally unfamiliar with polaroid, so not sure whether I "peeled the wrong part", but it lifted easily so it seemed right...
Sadly however, no image :'(
I don't know whether any of the machinery it passed through on it's international journey might have spoiled it, but there seems to be a very vague date-like imprint on the otherwise black print (I've circled it on the attached pic), and the part that I assume would be the neg has strange looking stains.
Anyway, not at all my intention to disparage Aksel. It was a wonderful idea, and I'm no less pleased to have received it as part of this year's exchange.
I don't know whether Aksel had a title in mind when he took the shot, but I shall call it "under the duvet at midnight (with all the lights out)" and as such it's an exciting and provocative piece of art... :)
-
To provide another data point, I'm happy to report that Aksel's Polaroid made it over here in one piece and with the image entirely visible and intact. In fact all the cards have arrived with minimal damage (small roller marks here and there, primarily). I'm hoping mine survived similarly well in their various travels.
-
Mine came unscathed, Aksel. It was a lovely surprise!

kentish cob, if my memory serves me right the image was supposed portrait a neon sign saying "this is it" on the roof of the Oslo National Academy of the Arts. I think the problem is that it´s way underexposed, the whole idea was a bit of a gamble. Sorry about that! The stains sometimes occurs when you wait to long before separating the negative, never really found why some turn out perfect and others like this but high humidity have proven to have a bad effect on polaroids. You did nothing wrong and I love the title you gave it! =)
Happy to hear that both 02Pilot and chris667 received cards intact!
All cards that has arrived in my end has been in top shape!

Absolutely no apology necessary, Aksel. We all appreciate that film photography can be a bit of a gamble, and I wholeheartedly applaud your trying something different and exciting for the exchange.
The fact that the image is a virtually invisible neon proclaiming "this is it" appeals to my sense of the ridiculous... :)
