Topic: larger neg scanning

Hello,

I have a very basic Canon flatbed scanner which has a 35mm film scanning bit, which works ok for me.
I'd like to scan some 6x9 negs.
Is there a cheap and cheerful way using the flatbed bit?
Feels like a Blue Peter tracing paper and anglepoise lamp moment coming up?

Any ideas?

Simple:

Note where the illuminating strip is, and scan one half of the negative. Move the negative a bit and scan another part with an overlapping joint. In Photoshop, go to file-automate-photomerge and stitch the images together.

Convenient: no.
