Title: Paterson Chemsitry to be discontinued
Post by: LT on April 06, 2006, 02:25:05 PM
A quote from AP (01/04/2006, page 24) where Roger Parry of Paterson stated that:

'The plant that produced our formulations (including stop bath) has closed. It looks like, due to diminishing demand, we will discontinue with all the Paterson chemistry. We will, of course, continue to produce the fuill range of Paterson darkroom equipment'.

there is no announcement or other information regarding this on their website http://www.patersonphotographic.com/

very sad, I really liked Aculux 2.

News like this Leon is becoming way too common.

I still cannot get over Polaroid discontinuing their Time Zero film. They have literally killed an entire photo/art process.  :'(

If that's an April Fool from AP it's not a funny one.

Damn it! I'd just started using that soup and it's good!  >:( >:(

I didint even notice the date on it Frank - fingers crossed it is a joke, although something tells me it isnt.

Susan - I think it's time to go here and buy some of this http://tinyurl.com/ep6dz, or this, http://tinyurl.com/zr7l3, or this, http://tinyurl.com/eo9aj dont you? I know you'll love it.
(ps they're all much of a muchness, so I'd go for the cheapest)

I asked about this on another forum and was steered here http://boardserver.superstats.com/read.html?collapse=0&uid=2670286&u=rogerandfrances&id=124&thread=107&f=1&u=rogerandfrances and here http://boardserver.superstats.com/read.html?collapse=0&uid=2670286&u=rogerandfrances&id=131&thread=107&f=1&u=rogerandfrances

I'll still lay a few bottles in, but it might be worth hanging on before a mad rush to the shops...

spooky..but it's the film and paper I worry about

I think mixing your own chemicals is a LOT easier than making your own film

Still have something shy of five liters of Aculux 2. Should order more from B&H before it's all gone. Damn. This sucks big time.

Out with the old, in with the new.
Hate that, but what can you do?
I'll grab some Pyrocat HD to start off with.
Thanks, Leon.

Leon - is there a source in the UK for this stuff, or is it best to order with PF?

Sad about Paterson - although maybe we'll still see it reappear later, as is happening now with Agfa chemistry. Interesting to ponder on where we'll be with film and chemistry in 5 years time!

Do you mean the developers i suggested to Susan?  If so, with the exception of Pyrocat HD, you can buy them from www.monochromephotography.com (http://www.monochromephotography.com).  AFAIK, there arent any UK sources for Pyrocat HD, so I mix it myself - it's very easy and much cheaper than the other ones I mentioned.

Rogerr - i hear what you're saying about mixing chemicals vs film/ paper production, but if you've got a particular favourite (like aculux for example) and production is then stopped, with no formula published, it can be very frustrating, and many people cant be botherd with the hassle of diy chemistry.

Thanks Leon. I'm not sure I really want to lever myself out of my comfortable xtol rut, but I will investigate further.

Just saw this. This is so depressing. Nevermind trying to get over losing the Agfa APX range of film... now I have to contend with the loss of the wonderful FX-39, which is the best developer I've found so far for Fuji Neopan Acros.

Seems to me that one has to be pretty resilient and optimistic to be a film user.  :-\

Isn't FX-39 a Geoffrey Crawley formula? I wonder if it's possible that they'll publish the ingredients... the Film Developing Cookbook has all the FX-series published up until FX-37.

Well, I guess I'll start using Perceptol with Acros next until the dust settles on this one.

*sigh*
