Maybe I can take my old Zeiss Ikon folder and "pretend" it's the new Fuji toy  ;D

By the way... it says Voigtlander on the label  :D

Sweet! I will be sure to check them out. I wonder if the Fuji or the Voigtlander version will hit the market first? Skj.

From the article, "While Fujifilm will release the GF670 under its own brand in Japan, the medium-format camera has been renamed the Voigtlander Bessa III 667 outside of Japan, where Cosina is likely to have sole distribution."

....and yeah, it looks awesome, but there's no way I'm going to be able to afford one.

Yeah, it looks sweet and too much for me I bet.  I don't really need another camera anyway. :)

It's fantastic that they are making modern bellows MF cameras.  I wouldn't want one though, not when I can buy an Agfa Isolette with the amazing Solinar lens for 20 GBP on ebay.

Info from a photo.net post:

FORMAT: 6x7cm changeable to 6x6cm
FILM: 120 (10 exp 6x7/ 12 exp 6x6)
220 (20/12)
LENS: EBC FUJINON f=80mm 1:3.5; close focus to 0.9m (3ft); f3.5~22;elements/4 groups.
SHUTTER:B, 4sec~1/500sec
ASA: ISO 25~3200
BAT: 1 CR2
BODY: Aluminum diecast; outer magnesium alloy.
SIZE: 178(W) X 109(H) X 138 (D) mm; 64 (D) mm folded.
WEIGHT: 1,000g without battery. (2.2 lbs.)

The same person also said that Japanese dealers are taking orders for a March '09 delivery at 218,000 Yens (approx. US$2,220).  I didn't do any research to see if that's true, but even if it's close, it's out of my market.

I have a feeling that due to the limited production run, it will be out of most people's price range.  I expect they'll then release it at a later date in larger numbers and lower prices (maybe I'm just deluding myself here).  I'm desperately trying to get hold of one to review .... but I doubt I'll manage.

Fuji GF670 - More Details.
« Reply #12 on: March 04, 2009, 09:50:12 AM »

And from Fuji Film themselves their January press release (translated by me, so excuse errors).

Fuji Film - "GF670 Professional" - Press Release.

The new Fuji Photo Film Ltd. "GF670 Professional" is a light and compact camera of the folding bellows type. It allows you to enjoy the charm of medium format silver halide photography, in an easy to take anywhere shape, with overwhelming power and high resolution.

Inside the camera, both 6x6cm and 6x7cm image size switch functions are installed. It will be available on the Japanese market in the middle of March, with a limited production run of 5000 units.

Compared to 35mm film, the "GF670 Professional" is a camera that is capable of taking a photograph about 3.6 times larger (in 6x6 mode), or 4.5 times larger (in 6x7 mode). Because the film used is larger, it allows high image quality with extreme detail to be captured, and then to be enlarged (to newspaper size as an example) without any degradation of image quality.

It is the first medium format folding bellows type camera to be installed with a 6x6 / 6x7 function switch. In parallel with the format switch operation, both the bright framelines and film frame-counter are synchronized with the appropriate format size selection automatically.

The newly designed EBC Fuji lens is a six element in four groups configuration. It has a focal length of 80mm, and a maximum aperture of f3.5. Accurate and quick focusing is available because of the classic rangefinder configuration. Both manual and automatic shutter speed selections are available (aperture priority in normal automatic mode).

Because of the folding bellows type configuration, it allows medium format benefits to be realized walking in the mountains, for street photography, and anywhere you can carry a camera. The ground-breaking folding design achieves a light, compact body at only 64mm thick, and 1000g in weight. Additionally, the die-cast aluminum body and magnesium covers result in a united, solid design. The controls are also designed for a solid, secure feel.

While recently there has been widespread use of digital cameras, film cameras have been noted to have a 'richness and sense of depth and tone' that is only available through the use of film. Additionally, people have expressed the desire to 'feel and enjoy the operation of a film camera'. A medium format camera with extra performance has been requested from many shutter-bugs, including professional photographers, and advanced amateur photographers.

This new camera allows many people to experience the charm, power of expression, and control only a silver halide film camera allows. Options include a soft case and a lens hood.

Fuji Film will continue to contribute to the development of film photograph culture, as a leading company in the field of future imaging.

Camera: JPY218,000. Case: JPY7,000. Hood: JPY7,000. Probably available too from www.japanexposures.com at some stage. Not sure I will buy one, though I will certainly have a play. See ya! Skj.

Thanks for the detail, Skj. I took the liberty of merging the 2 GF670 threads. Hope that's OK.

Obviously I want one - it looks amazing. I can't think of many new non-large format cameras I can say that about. I do have one question though...will it be as good as my Moskva 5?
 :D :D ;D

So in all seriousness, is anyone here thinking of picking one of these up? Or is it just a totem signifying that film truly ain't dead? Is it just a piece of camera porn?

I must admit it does look pretty sweet... especially since it's coming out at just about the same time Rollei is going under.

I love the multi-format feature. The viewfinder will surely be nicer than the one on my old Zeiss Ikon Nettar  ;D

I'm assuming that it has an Auto exposure function - presumably aperture priority - as it has an 'A' option on the shutter speed selector dial.  A nice touch if it does.  I much prefer Ap Priority if I'm hand holding.

As much as anything it's the large modern viewfinder that appeals ... compared with the average classic.

Do we know how much it's going to cost?

How come all these people are pre-ordering if they don't have an idea of the cost?

Seems strange.  ???

Sorry, stupid, I just found the price 230,00 yen, at today's rate that's 1,651 pounds sterling or 2,335 USD.

Robertwhite.co.uk have changed their available date to June (from May) so it should arrive in the UK very soon. Not that any of us could afford one, although I've heard they're all sold before they get here anyway. Recession? What recession?

Maybe you can pretend you "never got it" once it arrives ;) ... then again, probably not a good idea.
