disposable cameras....and a thought
« on: July 31, 2007, 09:40:01 PM »
just a thought..........

how about for the next collaboration we have the subject open.

The only catch would be that EVERYONE has to use a disposable or throwaway camera for the gallery and fess up on the camera used.

It would be interesting to see how a very cheap camera is used by the FW's  here.

 :)

Very democratic... I have one lying on the shelf. I got it at a dollar store for 1 buck (well... obviously).

Might be a way to put it to good use.

FOr some reason I have a BOOTS disposable camera sitting not 2 feet away from me still in its wrapping (think it was a freebie when my OH was buying nappies). If theres a challenge i'm in.... any theme? ? ?, how about the title "Disposable", shot with Disposable cameras.. ???..

a great idea.

i saw something simialar in AP magazine (a very middle of the road/camera club Type magazine for those non UK types)    they got some famous people such as martin parr to take out a cheap disposable to see how much of a photograph is the camera and how much the photographer.

To be fair martins style & ssubject matter (i think) lends itself to the excersie,   interesting none the less.

im up for it!

Oh I love it - I'm so in!

I believe Henri Cartier-Bresson thought they were the best thing to be created in years simply because you didn't have to think!  Can't remember where I read that now, but I swear I did ;).

I've had my own travelling disposible camera project for a few years now and I love it.  Unfortunately Konica is no more, so no more disposible black and white cameras (damnit!!)

Have you seen the disposable  cuties that Rollei makes with B&W?
They're kinda on the pricey side- US 9.99......but they are so darn sexy!!!!!
Freestyle had them in their Spring catalog.

I thought they had questionable environmental impact but if you stick to main brands then apparently not...

Fantastic idea - I'm in!

When I was deputy editor of Photo Technique magazine, I commissioned an article where I got various pro photographers to shoot with a disposable camera. All except one threw themselves into the spirit of the exercise, and genuinely seemed to enjoy it. The one who didn't, in his write-up, proclaimed: 'They are fine for snaps, but of absolutely no use to a professional at the top of his field.' So I printed it just to make him look like the prat he was.

Okay, I'm going to get myself the cheapest, crappiest disposible I can find.  One of those weird no-name dollar store deals if I can.  No kodak, fuji, or polaroid for me, I'm going ULTRA cheap!  Might not make a difference, but you never know!

Astrobeck - thanks so much for that, and real black and white film to boot!  I can't wait to get some of those!
