First pics from my new (old) Pentax 67 SLR
« on: May 16, 2008, 11:02:19 PM »
It's a brick of a camera, but I'm really liking it so far although I've only had it on one outing.

Wow, Otto- those first three (1 and 3 in particular) are really fantastic. There's a whole heap of atmosphere and grunge packed into those shots. Really love them.

not sure how I missed these up until now - they are amazing OttoK! The colour palette is fantastic, and they are so grittily sharp - perfect for the subject, well done indeed.

Thanks all.  This location was one of my recent favorites.  This old abandoned house had such a wonderful feel to it.

the quality on these is very interesting Otto...well I have said that over at your blog. The Hassy give a softness that the pentax doesn't have....these have amazing detail...very difficult to explain after a bottle of wine so I won't try. Beautiful shots...just need to grow to love 6x7...slowly slowly!

Those doors are absolutely stunning! Are they hand held or on a tripod?

Tripod was absolutely necessary in this place, especially given the lower light and the heavy mirror flap on the Pentax 67. :)

I agree, the door pictures are superb. Just a comment: with my Hassy 500C/M, you can flap the looking glass up out of the way BEFORE you trip the shutter, so that the risk of blur from the vibration is minimised.  Is this not possible with the Pentax?

No, that's possible (and necessary) on the Pentax 67, in my opinion, and another reason to be on a tripod.  The older version of that Pentax, called 6x7 didn't always have Mirror Lock Up (MLU), but did have a modification that could be done to allow MLU.  What I have is the second version of the camera, Pentax 67.  There was one final version made, Pentax 67ii.

Hey Otto, seeing as how you're getting on so well with the new Pentax, I guess you won't be needing that tasty Ansco anymore? No problems at my end if you want to send it to a new home in London.

 ;D ;)

Actually, my Ansco has been ailing of late.  First it was a problem with the shutter.  I got that repaired, but it seems that in course of getting that repaired, the focusing got messed up.  I just put another roll through it to verify before sending it back again.  One of the joys of having a camera from the '50s. :)

But I'm not about to give it up willingly.   ;D
