More cool stuff from a fun day. And visual proof of the third brass band. I hope to develop my stuff on Thursday or Friday. Love seeing all these shots.

Here are some of my shots.  I am NOT liking the look of the grain on this Arista EDU Ultra 400 film.

There's something familiar about those shots, L.A., something very familiar...  :P

What is it about the grain that you're not happy with? I'm not a big fan of the Fomapan films I've tried (the Arista EDU line is repackaged Foma), but that's based entirely on how they react to Caffenol, which is the only developer I use. What developer did you use?

For what it's worth, I really like the grain, and the shots as well.

Francois was the one who taught me to rate it at 200 and dev in HC110E :)

And now for some color. These were from the Zorki 6 on some expired Gold 400. Had to do some color tweaking. I like to shoot color to challenge myself to see a little differently, but I gotta say, editing color images is always a bit of a mindf*** for me. But something about this day felt like it needed some color, so I loaded that up before I switched to HP5.

I had Portra 400 in the Lubitel but that roll is still in the camera  :P

A bit grainy, this one. Had to increase the exposure some.

It looks okay at 72dpi/1024 x whatever resolution.  But at full resolution zoomed in 300% I see this weird black speckly grain that I don't like.  I shot this roll at 200 and developed in Rodinal 1.25 dilution for 5:30 minutes. Here is a screen shot zoomed in:

Interesting. I just looked at some shots on Foma 200 and I see similar black spots, perhaps a bit more clearly defined than what you're seeing (though that could just be the scanning). I'm curious to see if others have the same issue with different developers.

I've always had quality issues with Arista EDU.  Mostly chips out of the emulsion.

But I really wanted to post about the pics themselves--Nice stuff!  I wish I could have been there.

Yeah, the EDU stuff (Fomapan) is definitely not my favorite. It's acceptable at ASA 200 in HC110 dil E, but only acceptable. The price difference between it and Tri-X is far less than the quality difference between it and Tri-X, IMHO ;)

Coincidentally, there's an ongoing discussion over at RFF on developing Fomapan that may provide some additional ideas: http://www.rangefinderforum.com/forums/showthread.php?t=151616

Got some more ready to show. I tried to get some shots showing people's reactions as the band marched past them - focusing was, um, slightly imprecise at times, but that was, uh, an artistic choice, yeah, that's it, an artistic choice.

02 Pilot managed to get that shot right before a tuba blast launched my head into orbit...

I developed the FP4 120 (Rodinal 1:25 9 minutes) from the walk last night. Hope to get to the 35mm stuff and 3200 12 over the weekend.

The crowd reaction shots are great! A nice change of perspective (see what I did there??) from shots featuring the band and only the band (which are also great, natch ;) )

Adam, as I said on Facewasters, I LOVE that portrait of LA, and I don't care how much post-processing you had to do to get it ;) The vignetting, the overall darkness except for the light on LA, and LA's general nonchalant pose are keys. I also like the detail of the water fountain/gazebo/statue :)

OK, this is the last of the 120, this time Delta 3200 through the Yashica D. Ilfosol 3 1:9 11 Minutes, inverted not stirred, extra dry. Not much walking or marching here. This was sitting and standing and talking and drinking.

Finally got around to developing the Arista Premium 400 from the Canonet. I had 5 rolls so I got to fill the Paterson 5 reel tank! (And, my first foray with HC110). Lots of cropping herein.

Love your angle on the treehouse dancer, I think it captures the moment far better than my head on shots of it. She certainly appreciated the appearance of a brass band in her garden. (Isn't that same garden where the Nevermind orchestra picked Up a flutist? That garden was really cool.)

Maybe that's all it was ... if you were walking alongside him, then you were probably moving at about the same rate, so it's almost like you were panning with him.

Or not.
