Dear Filmwasters
We've got some exciting news that will hopefully lead to Filmwasters becoming a major tour-de-force on the photography-related interweb.
We've been undertaking some intense discussions with a major photographic supplier in the UK - initially regarding a partnership arrangement, but following a serious offer being placed on the virtual table, we've decided to cash in our e-assets and accept a buy-out offer.
Ed, Damion, Skj, Susan and I will retain over-all management of the site, but now under an employment contract and managerial guidance by our new owners (who wish to remain anonymous for now).
Whilst this is great news for the 5 of us (and our bank accounts), it means the focus of the site will inevitably have to change. Changes that will have the most impact are as follows:
1. You will notice a series of "advertorial" style commercial posts in the coming weeks - each featuring a new-to-the-market' product from major camera manufacturers. these will be a permanent feature on the forum, along with banners. pop=up windows and other assertive commercial content.
2. The new site owners concentrate on modern technology, so have demanded that the focus of the site moves away from film to digi-friendly content in order to increase traffic. Film should only represent 5% of the site content from now on to reflect the modern market.
3. In the light of number 2 above, the site name has to change. There are several options, but it seems likely to kph.com (kool-pixel-hipsters).
4. the film content that does remain will have to relate to the 'modern" film camera market. In this light, if the words, "Lomo", "TIP", "imqossible" do not feature, posts will be deleted.
5. As the site now needs to demonstrate commercial validity, the owners wish to charge an annual subscription charge. All members have 2 weeks to pay £80/ $130/ ¥10,800/ €91, otherwise membership will be deleted.
I hope you can celebrate this new and exciting era for kool-pixel-hipsters.com with us, and help to make the site the biggest and best photo site on the inter-web-net.
Hooray!
Leon and the Filmwasters
