Transatlantic film merger
« on: April 02, 2018, 07:05:58 PM »
Last year I received a Yashica FX-2 from Bryan in the 'Share the love' happening. As an extra bonus I received 2 rolls of Fuji Super HQ 200 films, thanks again Bryan. The first film was fine, but when I received the second from the lab I noticed that it looked very pale in a way. Looking closer I realized that there were double exposures on some frames, but I did not recognize the scenes. So here is the result of this transatlantic film merger between me and Bryan. What I found strange is that two of these shots do not show a trace of my exposures although I shot the whole film (27 of 24 exposures is not bad!). Maybe because they were very dark. And my shots are upside down in these pictures.

That's funny Kai but I didn't take those photos.  It really had me scratching my head because the construction photos look exactly like something I would photograph for work, but I don't recognize the site.  I used to take site photos like that on film but we have been using digital for that stuff for a long time now.

At first I was thinking somehow I ended up with a co-workers old roll of film, but I don't think that's what this is.  There is one very good clue in one of the photos, Red's Eats.  A quick Google search comes up with that Lobster Shack in Wiscasset, Maine, they only have the one location.  By the way, it is the "Worlds Best Lobster Shack".  I have never been to Maine for work or pleasure, most of the work I do is in the Western U.S.  The only site I have worked on East of the Mississippi was the Hurricane Katrina cleanup in New Orleans, LA.  I can't think of any company or anyone I work with doing a site in New England but I suppose it is possible.

Every now and then I find expired film at Estate Sales, that's where this film likely came from.  Whoever shot it left the tail out leading me to believe it had not been shot yet.  I have shot a lot of expired Estate Sale film over the years and have never shot over someone's photos like that.  Sorry your photos got buggered up but it's good to see that you're getting some use out of the FX-2.

Now I have a reason to go to Main, the "Worlds Best Lobster Shack". :)

It had crossed my mind that it might not be yours, but at least we got to see an unknown part of the world! My favorite is shot number two, did you see the sign on the wall which says Selbyville? I don't know if that's an actual place or a surname.

Selbyville is a town in Delaware, a good distance from Maine.  What still amazes me is the similarity of the construction work to what I do.  It looks like some kind of shoreline restoration work, possibly hazardous waste because they are deploying oil boom.  I've been doing hazardous waste cleanup and restoration work on U.S. EPA Superfund sites since the early 1990's.

I know exactly where that lobster shack is - I think Leonore had a lobster roll there when we were up there in 2015. I looked, but I don't have any photos of it.
Any man who can see what he wants to get on film will usually find some way to get it;
and a man who thinks his equipment is going to see for him is not going to get much of anything.

If I had a pound for each thread in this forum that ended up in food talk, I'd be a wealthy man!  ;)
